A question for those involved with the admin and ownership of this site - others may care to interject.

I've noticed Google ads for this site as I search frequently for CD stuff. As a web developer I know this costs money. Now, I personally plan to offer a CD-helping site in the future so I can understand footing the hosting bill to provide such a community but what I don't get it the advertising...

It cost money to advertise on Google. Somewhere, someone is footing the bill. I've never seen an ad on this site... or a 'donate' button. My question is - who owns this site and why are they so generous as to even advertise and never ask us for dime one? I, for one, would click on relevant advertisement if they were on this site as I know they generate money and keep sites like this alive. That's just me - I always click on the ads when I appreciate a site (most don't *hint*)...

Now - don't get me wrong, girls, I don't want ads on here, either. But it occured to me when I saw another google ad for this site - I don't pay to be a member. There are no ads. No one asks me to donate even a dollar by paypal. Somewhere - someone pays for this.

I am expressing my gratitude for a site that has helped me more than any in a decade of internet use. Thank you for giving us this site.

Thank you, dearly.

If its money thats needed than just ask for it. You will get more than you can imagine.
But please do not require it as a matter of membership! This would greatly deter some really good people from access to this forum. That would not be a good thing to happen.

Because of the nature of this site it may be possible to apply for a government grant. Somebody should look in to that, You are providing a community service here.
A service that is greatly needed.

Dawn Marrie "Thats WHO I Be !"

Just post an address that we can mail a check to. You're gonna be suprised at the repsonse you get!

I for one would gladly paypal a small amount (I'm pretty broke) to the owner. I've never done that in almost 10 years. I would here.

True - charging for membership would be foolish - but adding a donate now button would surely allow us a way to express gratitude.

I do imagine, that if I were financially secure, that seeing us girls here happy would be payment in itself... honestly. However, I'm not financially secure at all so I'm always thinking about the bottom dollar.

Thanks for the post. Yes we spend a couple hundred $$$ a month at google to attract new CD'ers, as our main focus and goal at the moment is just building up the user base here at crossdressers.com as were a brand new forum only a bout a year ago and have grown nice and steady :)

We have no plans on charging for access and when we do put ads, they will not be very intrusive and will be relevant :)

Simple - use two different browsers. Say, Internet Explorer for yourself (which you stay logged into) and Firefox for your wife (which she could stay logged into). Firefox has a Master Password feature which will only allow that user to have passwords used automatically.

If you need more help setting this up, let me know....

When I log on, I can't bring up "post new thread". YET, on those rare occassions I spell out "crossdresser forum" I (not always) get a request to sign in. Then, and only then, "post NEW thread" appears.

Is there a foolproof way to bring up this option?

I think a PM or email to the Admin would be the best way to get this done, obsessedwithpantyhos.

And I noticed that your name has exactly 20 letters, perhaps there is a limit to name length?

I have two quick questions:

1) Sometimes, when I go into the New Posts view, I'll have 2-3 pages of New Posts showing. After a while, when I've only viewed a handful of them, I'll come out of a thread, and there'll only be a few (4-8) threads showing in the New Posts view. Why does that happen?

2) What is reputation and how does it work? Does a dark icon next to a reputation entry in the User CP mean something negative? And what do the points represent?

Thanks,

Brandy Marie Devereaux

On posting pics, I rename things by simply adding a number or a letter at the end of the original name so I don't forget what it is I wanna post on a forum thread. Mind you I've not got round to posting much on here, but it works on other sites.

I've found that the system does not care about the name used, it checks the digital signature of the picture. So resizing the picture by even one pixel, then saving it as a new file, will allow you to use the picture again.

Only other thing is that I have to disable my pop up blocker to see the extra smilies. Its easier than setting it to ignore this site.

Thanks Tristen but I found my problem. Somehow the clock on my computer jumped ahead to 2017. Other sites I log onto also would not allow automatic access. I caught the problem when my Norton Anti Virus informed me it was time to renew but I just did a few months ago. I'm not sure what the clock has to do with logging on but everything seems fine today.

Today for the first time since I joined over a year ago I have to log on manually.
Every once in a while, the server hiccups and everybody has to log on again. Or it can get confused and think that you logged off - if you crashed or something. There are a hundred little things like that.

Rachel Ann
06-18-2005, 04:46 AM
I have a password manager that came with my browser that holds all the passwords so I do not have to log on manually - typing in info to each site I visit.
I keep all of my IDs and passwords and PINs in an Excel file as well. From time to time, I back this up to a floppy or CD. A little bit "stone axe", but I never have to worry about losing all of them - or any of them.

The Holy Grail: To get to a point where all of your passwords and PINs are the same. I never quite have. It's a lot easier to keep one thing secret than it is to keep a hundred things secret. :D

Hi Tristin,

It's not like you don't have a million other things to do here (where do you find the time?) but I'm going to be a pest again. I don't know how I managed it but when I joined I ended up with a hyphen between Jenny and Beth, it's always bugged me. Is it possible to change it to simply Jenny Beth? And by the way, I think you are doing a great job running the ship.

Jenny Beth

I hope you don't think I buttered you up just to do that. Thanks

Well just for safe keeping I keep everything written down on paper, I've tried to use the same name and passwords for many different things however I realised that wasn't smart if I ever got hacked. Best to write it down and save it just in case.
Any such hacking is more likely to happen at the other end, which is usually a more target-rich environment. Files on my computer that contain sensitive information are compressed, encrypted and password-protected (not with the same password that I use for everything else).

Tristeeerrn?

Pretty pretty pretty please could you change my name to just: Kimberly ? :p

I've got passed the TV stage.... I now consider myself CD. ... plus, it'll be easier for people to relate to, rather than having a big fat full stop then "tv" on the end of my name.

Flattery will get you anywhere
Did I mention how much of a cool role model you were for me? Inspiring :)

Kimberly

Not to be too fussy, but: I still have a period (full stop) in my name...

Kimberly
06-21-2005, 04:53 PM
It's only on my sign in name at the top...

Theres one of these ---> . at the end of my name. :)

But it's cool... I'm just pedantic.

DonnaT
06-21-2005, 05:12 PM
I can see Tristen's confusion because I don't see a period (.) after your name either Kimberly. Clean your screen :D

But of course, you are talking about where it says at the very top "Welome, Kimberly." just like mine says "Welcome, DonnaT." right? They all have periods, I imagine, as it is a complete sentence  :D

How about an address book and links to the buddy list so we can e-mail or private message our buddies?

DanaJ
06-26-2005, 04:29 PM
Not sure if this is what Judy is asking, but you can add individual members to your buddy list, then PM them all at the same time.

Do this by clicking on Quick Links at the top, then Open Buddy List, then check which ones you wanna send a PM to..... if this is what she is asking :)

Often times I get distracted while reading new posts. When I sit back down to continue sorting through them all, the list has timed out. When this happens, If i hit new posts again, I only get the evern more recent post from after I started reading the previous list. I can not go back because the list is old.

I will accept any solution, but how can I read todays posts withouht using new posts?

Is there a way to use the date in the search function? The problem with that is you have to search for some word.

Is there a universal search word that will include every post following the other criiteria of the search?

Genifer Teal

Genifer Teal
07-06-2005, 02:45 AM
On your search option you 'can' sort by date under 'advanced' search.

Tristan, I have seen the date option under search. What do I search for to see all posts based on date? Is there a universal search word or symbol?

Also, I never turn off computer or close browser so I am always connected. The time out must also be based on inactivity and controlled by the server end.

FWIW, another CD group that used this same program, has an option for todays posts on the blue task bar. This suggests to me there is a way for the system to handle it.

Dear Administrator Lady, Is there a way to transfer a post placed in one thread to another more appropriate one, w/out rewriting it in entirety? "K"

Sharon
07-06-2005, 04:09 PM
Khriss: no there is not. I can move, duplicate, separate posts myself same as any moderator. But once you post you can only edit or delete it, moving is not an option for members. Sorry.

One option is to copy your post in the original thread and then paste it into the thread you wish to place it. Then go back to the first thread and delete the post.

I see where to specify the date in the advanced search area. THE PROBLEM IS: I must also specify a word or name to search for.

What do I use? I want to find ALL posts between the dates I set.

Genifer

Genifer Teal
07-06-2005, 10:38 PM
So just to be clear - because this is what I thought all along - you CAN NOT search for ALL POSTS within a date range. YOU CAN only search for WORDS within posts in a given date range.

Is this correct?

A few others have suggested otherwise, with no explanation as to how.

And finaly, to confirm my original suspicions, once you click new posts and it times out, there is no way to find those recent posts again without individually checking each thread. If we have confirmed this to be true then I suggest it is a huge weakness and the powers that be may want to consider adding this ability if it is reasonably possible. For me, it is something that has happened several times already in the month since I joined.

Hugs - Genifer

Post any technical or adminstrative questions you may have with the board here. Please keep posts in this thread related to the subject or in other words no chit-chat. Thanks.

Okay. My question pertains to avatars. If a member here chose to use an alternate image instead of their own photo, why would that be deemed 'inappropriate'?

One would think that if someone wanted to protect their privacy, they would have the right to do so.

lorna2cute
07-07-2005, 09:01 AM
It never has been. When you claim the person to be yourself who is obviously someone else's identity THAT is plagarism. THAT is all we are concerned with not who uses what picture.

But everyone missed that point in the other section...

Well, due to my very busy schedule, some people don't have the time to comb thru entire threads, Tristen.

All I know is that a friend of mine was recently banned with no explanation. And you're talking to me about "missing that point".

You have to install Java. The chat room uses a Java Applet, so if you don't have this enabled or installed, you won't be able to access the chat rooms.

Tristen I am one of these illiterate from the great unwashed and do not seem able to get evidence from one place to another. I would like a picture up and others as would be usefull but ...... I can get them from my camera to the confuser and even make cd's but am lost when it comes to getting them on e-mail or transfer to the site. I am so frustrated as others seem to find this so easy. Can or will you help me? Thank you in advance for any help. Hugs Krystal.

Tristen, I am sorry I am a brick when it comes to confusers. Did the j p e g thing and broused and uploaded and then nothing. They just went away. I tried again but doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is a mark of insanity. I have been accused of being unhinged but don't like banging my head on a wall. That usuall just hurts the wall.
Don't know what I am doing wrong.
Why do the pictures just go away? The instructions say they will attach to the message.
Any further help will be much appriciated. I really thought I had it there for a minute.
Thanks and hugs. Krystal.

Hi!!

I'm not sure if this the correct place for this technical question...or if I should simply try to email Tristen or whoever manages the site.

I want to add Mx or Mx. as a prefix (androgyne equivelant of Mr., Miss, Mrs. or Ms.)...to my femme name user ID.

The term "Mx" is actually a recent developement for legal androgyne gender/ID changes in a few western countries (Australia being a notable example).

Any helpfull replies appreciated.

Yes!!... If you can affect the change from "Justina" to "Mx. Justina", for my femme user name...I would be elated!!!

Mx.= Mix; as in mixed gender or mixed gender ID.

Hello again here!

I use Microsoft Picture and Fax viewer for opening picture files, and Paint for pixel reduction... However with two recent digital photos (intended for pixel reduction, for profile and avatar updates)...the pixel reduction refused to matirialise in several efforts worth of useless ruined images.

Do you know of any downloadable applications that can reliably create the required pixel reductions on images taken with digital cameras???

Thanks for your response Tristen!!!

Just before log-on I partially resolved the problem with my cannon scanner's "painting" software--which works better than the MS Paint... However, I didn't get the image cropping (none on file images) that I wanted.

Will print out your site suggestion for reference, and check the URL out...

Oh worthy Administrator...I have returned, for I have need of greater enlightenment...

Firstly: Please refresh me as to what the max pixel limits for each attachment is?... Does the limit change when uploading more than one attachment?

Secondly: What is the reason that more than one post uploading prevents attachments from opening automatically?

J.If I may step in here :) I think that Justina was asking about pixel size not file size. Basically, the pixel size can be as large as you can make it, as long as it fits within the 39.1 KB file size.

So, depending on how "busy" your pic is (more or less detail level) and how much jpg compression you use, the picture can be small or large. I usually try to keep my pix at a width of between 350 and 600 pixels. Of course, this is only if you are attaching the pictures on the forum, and not lining to them.

Hope this helps ;) Oh, and each picture can be as large as you can make them as long as they are all under the 39.1 KB limit - and you are limited to 5 attached pix per post.

DanaJ

P.S. More on "busy" pix - A pic of you standing in front of a bookcase will take many more KBs than one of you standing against a plain white wall, as an example.

BTW...Dana, I bet that a large percentage of the picture poster are not aware about the "busy" pix stealth angle...

All of this info and more is either in this thread or in the Picture help link in my signature which goes to this thread:
http://www.crossdressers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5370
Remember it for future reference

Thanks for the follow-up Tristen!

I have hand-written the Image Tutorials thread search info, as well as the Villari tutorial site url for reference. Also made a printout of Dana's reply.

BTW... Although I was not able to use your gimp.org suggestion for cropping... I did discover that HP has a free download image edit program which has very easy image-cropping feature. I use it for the cropping, and Canon's Photo Studio for the pixel reductions. The MS Paint program is less handy than the Canon and HP edit programs.

Do you mean on the left under your name, the avatar pic? Just go to your user CP, and click on Edit Avatar..... the pic must be 125x125 pixels and under 64K...

Oh, also I had a pic that I tryied to up load for my profile and the pic is small in size and it still came back as too big.
I have most of my pics stored in my digital cam and others in my folders in which neither of them I can up-load. I wish that I could call anyof you sisters for help!

Hello again here!...

I have seen a few forum posters upload auto-opening post images that are either "composite collages" or superimposed, or two or three side-by-side merged into single composite image.

Can anyone clue me as to how to achieve any such image generations??... Also, are there any downloadable applications that will achieve such modified images??

Thanks!

There are a lot of good image software out there, but I use Paint Shop Pro, they also have an animated gif maker included, which makes those auto slide shows and/or any animated images.

As to the how, that is a little involved and depends on which software you use.

In the Control Panel, clicking on the section "Internet Options"...you will find 7 sub sections...I believe at least one or two of the seven, has security settings that relate to javascript enabling, for the more recent MS OS.

If you check Tristen's post signature...a tutorial link exists there that answers the various CD.com uploading requirements.

Check it out and don't be afraid to experiment!

In case anyone has not noticed the purplish lettering on my avatars... Currently, I experimenting with an image merging application...in order to creat some facility in generating "watermarked" images for content control or ID/image theft deterrence. Anyone have any usefull tips or pointers regarding this??

Also, I'm thinking that it would be nice if picture-posting sites would incorporate such watermarking image functions as part of their profile/avatar edits.

Go to the solid color bar beneath your bottom PM and there is a box that says "Move to folder." You have several options if you click on the arrow next to that box: you can simply delete them if you like, or you can download them to your harddrive and then delete. Above your list of PM's there is a box that says "Inbox." If you click on that arrow, you can view the PM's sent and you can repeat the same process.

edit -- you also need to check the boxes on the far right side of the messages to indicate which PM's you wish to delete

Just a quick question, I was wondering if the administrators or moderators use the information we post to build up a profile of the individual members?

I noted that eventually you will be placing adverts here, and it struck me that the information we give away could be used for targeting us.

I know that I have given more information away than I should have really.

Just wondering......

Click on the User CP on the bar at the top of the screen left hand side, that will open up your user control panel. Before the "massacre", I just stayed logged in all the time, no fuss, no muss.

Now, it wants me to log in again for each new session. So, if I have 3 emails announcing posts to threads I've subscribed to, that's 3 logins. Also, it seems to log me off of my sessions once in a while (after a set period of time, perhaps?).

Is anybody else experiencing this?

Rachel, I had this problem when I used microsoft IE. Try this, it might help. Open up your IE and click on Tools > Internet Options. When the internet options is open, click on Content. In that tab click on Auto Complete, make sure that you have Usernames and Passwords clicked and also tick Prompt me to save passwords, click ok and then ok again. Let me know if this helps.

Hi DanaJ,

I've just remembered it performed an update very recently.
Since I started using Firefox (for sometime now) I have not changed any of the settings but I am wondering if the upgrade made some changes.

I said in a later post that the problem occurred with Firefox but not with IE6. Changing some of my Firefox settings still made no difference.

Then for some reason I 'refreshed' the screen and lo & behold, the 'Manage Attachments' button reappeared.

So I'm asking again.

I tried and at the bottom of the page it asked if I wanted to do a poll and I checked it. and it asked how many topics in the poll (max 10) and I put in 10 but nowhere did it give me a screen to put my choices in.
This was in the lounge if that helps.

To create a poll, just click 'new thread' fill it out as per, then scroll down to where it says, Yes, post a poll with this thread (insert amount). Once you have inserted the amount of poll options, click submit, this will then take you to another page to complete your poll options.

Internet browser is what you use to view websites. I use firefox, most people use IE (that big blue e icon) If you have changed your password, it's most likely your password settings aren't saving it. So this is what I suggest you do.

This is for IE (the big blue e icon)

Click on the big e icon. At the top of the screen you will see a list of menus, file, edit etc.

Click on 'Tools', this will open up a menu.
At the bottom of that menu, click 'Internet Options'.

When you click that, a box will open up. At the top of that box, there are some tabs with text written on them. The first tab says 'General'.

Half way down that box you will see a button that says 'Delete Cookies' and 'Delete Files'

Click 'Delete Cookies' first, it will ask you if you want to delete all the cookies in the temporary internet files folder. Click 'Ok'.

Next, click the 'Delete Files'. Another box will pop up and ask you if you want to delete your temporary internet files. Click 'Ok'.

When you have done that, click the tab at the top that says 'Content'. Look for a button that says 'Auto Complete' and click that.

First, make sure all the boxes in there are ticked. Once you have done that, click the 'Clear Forms' button, it will ask you if you want to clear all forms except passwords, click 'Ok'.

Next click the button that says 'Clear Passwords' another box will popup and ask you if you want to clear all saved passwords, click 'Ok'.

Once you have done all that, click the 'Ok' on the main 'Internet Options' box.

Now try logging into this site, it should ask for your username and password again, remember to tick the box next to it. IE should also ask if you would like this password saving, click 'Ok'.

If this doesn't help, let me know.

I think the problem is in my account somewhere here. I have tried a few animated avatars that I have used on regular occasions but it says I cannot upload animatied images. Also where are the generic ones gone?

Derived from the Sanskrit word word Avatāra which means "descent", an avatar is also an incarnation of a God. I suppose that to your computer, you are a Goddess.

LOL is that what she meant? I guess it depends on how you interpret the question.;)

I was thinking perhaps a new locked forum for members that go over a certain post count. For example 500. Once they get tired of answering posts about what color panties you have or dress for thrill or gender they have somewhere to go where they could actually try to get to know other people here.
I've noticed a few here will post mostly in the Lounge and not in the MtF section so i feel there is a need.

I don't know Amy, we've had enough problems with elitism here as is. You don't have to respond to any post in any folder if you don't feel like it, so you can self-segregate in this way if you choose.

Besides, anybody can inflate their post count in trivial ways, so we ought not to make too much of that as a "rank" thing. People who say less are often better spoken than those who say more, and more frequently.

Rachel

p.s. My statistics are not realistic, due to recent upheavals. I actually joined early in 2004, so my post rate is not as high as it appears.

The chatroom is not part of the forum, just a link. You need to create a new ID and password.

I'm not too sure of the thumbnail problem -- they seem to be fine here.

Ellaine - if there is a heading that says "Attached Thumbnail" that means the pic was attached to our forum and was over 500x500, and can be seen full sized by clicking on it. If the pic has a heading that says "Attached Images" that pic has been attached to our forum but is below 500x500 in size. If the pic was attached to an outside server or was very small, sorry - that was the way the member posted it and there is nothing that can be done.

Why does my time expire so fast.

When trying to post several replies, when I hit the submit button I have to log in again. That means I have to copy my reply, find the post I was trying to reply to, and then paste in in a new reply.

Of course, then having to log in again causes me to lose all the "new posts" from the previous log in, and opens only the few since my last log in.

Is there any way to get an explanaton as to why?:confused:If you start a thread and then it is not there, look for a redirect if the thread has been moved to another forum. If you still cannot find it, then the thread was deleted. Sometimes a PM will be sent explaining why, that depends on the reason it was deleted and how busy the mods are. If you do not receive a PM explaining why your thread was deleted, then feel free to PM (do not start a thread) an Admin or Mod to ask why....

I am perhps in the wrong place, but..
There are/is a bundle of Messages in my box. I keep up to date, answering and/or deleting. Now, how do I access to read, the bundle that are registered as being in the box, I know that I have seen them, but I would like to know what they say before I lose them completely.... ?

Sam-antha

How easy it is to mislead. The messages are stored, they have, I presume been read, since I keep that section clearish.
The "In box" I can control !
The "want to read ones" are those that are "stored".
Thanks muchly Sammy

Tamara Croft
01-21-2006, 10:05 PM
The messages that are 'stored' are the total amount of messages you have in your inbox and your outbox, there is no other place they could be. I'm assuming you are looking at the bar above that says You have *** messages stored, of a total *** allowed. (Empty Folder) ??? If not, please explain what you mean by 'stored'.

The doubles are my impatience, cos : usually when I post, the page ducks and dives before re-appearing as the required post in the required place.
Since it ducks not then i have pushed the knob again, nothing, go back twice and re-read the thread and there are the two posts......

What is the policy on image hot-linking and where can I find it. I checked the FAQ/Rules but found nothing.

DanaJ
01-28-2006, 10:34 PM
From Rules/FAQ, under "Photography, Including Avatars and Profile Pictures"
If you use a photo or image, it must be appropriate to the forum. This image used must not be of another person without their prior consent. This includes photos copied off other websites.

Your profile may be set to 'moderated' if it is found that you have used an inappropriate image as your avatar/profile photo.

If any members are found to be using pictures for which they do not have the owners' permission and falsely claiming they are that person, the picture will be removed immediately and contacted by PM.

Any pictures used from other websites may or may not be under copyright protection. If the material is copyrighted, we ask that you first get permission to use the material from the copyright holder and/or that you provide credit to the source you have taken your material from. Simply posting the source name or website address etc may be acceptable to use this material in accordance with the laws. Hotlinking of images from other websites is not permitted.

Any members' photographs posted on this forum may NOT be used on any other website, unless you have prior consent from the member who posted the picture. Those pictures are under copyright protection of the individual member.

Any photographs, avatars and profile pictures showing visible panties are not permitted in the forum. To prevent any accusations of allowing a double standard to exist, it has been decided, unanimously, by the Administrators and Moderators, that all panty photos are forbidden. Any such photos will be removed as Administrators and Moderators happen upon them, and the members affected will not necessarily be contacted. Anyone with questions should feel free to PM any one of the Administrators and/or Moderators with them.

Not sure if I know exactly what you mean but at the bottom of every forum are Display Options which allow you to change the way things are sorted and how many messages to show.

Does this mean that when you visit a thread for the very first time, you start at the last post? If that is the case, then go to your User CP, Edit Options, then scroll down to Thread Display Mode, where you have 4 options on how to display your threads....
