It's probably just me but I've been dressing for some time now and have got to a stage where I think I look quite good as a woman but how come I still get comfused by some things. Can someone please post a guide to TV term's
Example, What's the difference between a CD(crossdresser) and a TV (transvestite)? What's a sissy?
And I keep seeing loads of abbreviations. I must be thick because I don't know what half of them are short for.
There must be loads of other term's people don't know. So don't be shy and ask away

Crossdressers: Previously known as "transvestites," this group of individuals is content with their birth gender, but chooses to dress up as and use the mannerisms of the opposite gender. Crossdressers clothe themselves in the clothing of the opposite gender not for the purpose of entertaining others (as drag performers do), but because they feel more comfortable dressed as such. Note that crossdressers are NOT necessarily gay, nor do they necessarily want to undergo sexual reassignment; it is purely a choice they make about how to dress.

Drag performers: Drag performers, the male half of which is sometimes referred to as "drag queens," are individuals who dress up as and use the mannerisms of the opposite sex for the purpose of entertaining an audience. Think RuPaul. Some drag performers identify themselves as transgendered, and some do not.

Transsexuals: This group of individuals was born into one gender but identifies emotionally and psychologically with the other. The medical term often used to describe this situation is "gender dysphoria." The complexities of this state are numerous, and people in different stages of their "coming out as a transsexual" process may refer to themselves in very different ways. Male transsexuals may choose to use hormones, have surgery, or do neither in order to live as women. The point is, these are people who feel that they were born in the wrong body and will often do anything they can to remedy it.

Transvestite and Crossdresser are same terms just with different language base, Transvestite is term that draws from latin language origin and it means the same as crossdressing. Transvestite has somewhat pejorative conotation nowadays, CD came as milder alternative.

It doesnot help to learn that we are "mental disordered" someone at medical science was really wound up into victorian puritanism or dogmatic cristianism. I pitty people that cannot tresspass their limits I find them mentally underdeveloped. The fact that I like my freedom to dress as I please doesnot make me disordered, not it makes me disordered because I have difference in opinion on the subject that doesnot come to question. I like to question. If someone doesnot understand, or cannot digest, well, there is always time to learn.

Now, since I have overreacted :) let me quote this:

Transvestic Fetishism

* Repeatedly for at least 6 months, a heterosexual male has intense sexual desires, fantasies or behavior concerning cross-dressing.

* This causes clinically important distress or impairs work, social or personal functioning.

Specify if With Gender Dysphoria. The patient is persistently uncomfortable with gender identity or role.

I bet that your cross dressing like mine doesnot stop you functioning in the society or at work ....!? And second question: why the heck it has to apply to males only? Like there is no fem cross dressing ...??!? Naah... these people have to revise their small black books. They did not learn enough. And the reason why they did not, is because we mostly keep it to ourselves. Any CD psychologists here ????

The way I see it is:
Crossdressing is a term used for people who do it for entertainment; those who think of it as a "costume", for lack of a better word.

Transvestism seems to me that it's a way of looking at your entire self rather than just the clothes. You would prefer to be a member of the opposite sex whether you would actually have thesurgery or not.

I quite prefer the term Transvestite, personally.

I've been digging around here and thought some of you might find this old thread interesting enough to bring into new light.

I do agree with the "Drag-Queen" term. Working as a drag-queen, I have known some that are strait, gay, and some that would give anything they had to be able to have the surgery. Sort of a wide assortment there. For me, would I have been happier being born with the outer female parts to fit with my inner feelings? I don't even have to think that one over, 100 per-cent Yes .
Love you All,
Vickie :)

I have always had a problem using labels for anything. Humans are waay to blurred to put in boxes. We use words to try to understand what goes on around us and to us. I feel individuals that fall into 2 sigma of the "normal curve" should not be labeled.

Hi all
Thanks Cindy for the great info

So, CD, TV, Tgirl (my own preference), TS (transexual), Whats in a name

We are all just Sisters the terms need to be explianed to stop confusion. But what really matters is that we are all people who are trying to enjoy our lives in the way that suits us best and gives our lives some meaning. If we can be allowed to that is.

I think CindyT did a marvelous job with her explaination of terms. I would differ on one point though, that being I consider a CD and TV to be one in the same. And I can vouch for the part about being a TS. That's what I consider myself to be. Such a wonderful life for all of us.

I do not understand most of the abbreviations I think it is a sorry sign of today’s culture. Life has never been easer with all the modern appliances, I have just put on my dishwasher it took me all of 60 seconds and I am back on my laptop. Yet when things are so easy people are growing more and more lazy. If I am writing about a girlfriend I use the word not gf, likewise if I am talking about my wife I write that not SO.

So lets get back to writing posts that tell the story in a way that all can understand, surely we have time to write properly.
