Are you still having this problem? You may have been hitting the old server still.
Jasmine Ellis

I have just been going to ask about this one... just found the thread tho... so will not aks..... my pics take a while to come up now....
Where do I find the temp internet files to clear them from ?
Just been fiddling and I have decided that the"History" buton is the one that uncovers the files. there are not nearly so many now.
Sam-antha

I note that the avatar pic and the icons beside the page titles of the varous sections take longer than before to hit the screen and that the icons appear to stagger down the page from the top.
As advised in another thread, I have cleared out my history with no effect.
Is it my eyesight, PC, BT (broadband) or you ?
Looking forward to an easy answer

I've noticed the same thing for the last few days too. Not sure why it's happening.

Samm,
How much of a delay are we talking about?
I can see a slight delay in the appearance of the icons you mentioned, but it's only a fraction of a second.

Must be a routing problem, I have had absolutely no problems in the last week or so. Has anyone tried to ping the server?
Casey Morgan
04-18-2006, 05:52 PM
My ping results:
Packets: sent=4, received=4, lost=0
Times: minimum=25ms, maximum=32ms, average=27ms
I'm not having asny problems, so this may be a comparison.

Click Start > Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. When the window pops up (it may be a full-screen window depending on how it's set up) type ping www.crossdresserscom and hit Enter. The info I have isn't exactly the way it appears on the screen but those are the numbers you're looking for. I would imagine all ther packets should be sent successfully. The big thing to look for is the times it reports.
Oh sorry, "ping" is a command that will send some info quickly to a website so you can tell if you're having a problem with either the site or your computer. "Deep geek" stuff.

Just reading that some had probs with emptying their internet cache, this little program is the goods. Cleans everything out and also makes it safe to look up sites at work wi'out the boss checking on your history.
http://www.ccleaner.com/
Only warning, don't let it scrub all of your cookies if you have automatic password saver.
Enjoy.

I've spoke to the main admin about this and we've done a few tests and it isn't anything to do with the server. I did however change from using IE to firefox and it isn't happening at all using that, but still happening using IE.
Now I come to think of it, this only started when I did the last windows updates... hmm....

I've downloaded all the Windows updates and I have no difficulties at all. I don't think this one is Bill's fault.

I've downloaded all the Windows updates and I have no difficulties at all. I don't think this one is Bill's fault. His biggest fault was creating windows in the first place..... everytime you boot up winxp.. you're beta testing it :p
I found some spyware too, could have been that, who knows, but it's working fine now...... as for Bill.... well...... :censor:

To answer Angela's query, the delay is not great, more like a very prolonged stutter than anything. But it is of the last week in time only, approx.
Wwhen I go to a particular section, the thread titles appear widely (sort of double spacing) spaced at first, then they shrink together to the normal size.
Heading to a particualr thread, the avatar delay would be of the order of a sec after the text and frames appear.

I am having a very slow response on this site only. When I add a reply to a thread, it takes probably 20 seconds (quite a bit longer that usual) to load the message portion, and then about twice the time to load all the images such as avatars. I thought it was just me, as I am still in the dark ages with dial up and all.
Is there something with the site?
I did the ping thing:
minimum= 190ms, maximum= 197ms, average= 193ms.
I also cleared all my temp internet files and cookies, as well as history. My connection speed thru AOL is the same as always.

That is a pretty bad ping time and is probably the reason the site is so slow for you. I get a ping average of 38ms.

Click start - then click run - type in the box CMD and click OK. A command prompt box will open up. Type ping www.crossdressers.com and then hit enter. Post the results here.
Mine are Minimum = 88ms, Maximum = 90ms, Average = 89ms, but then again I'm using a lot of my bandwidth ;)

Jasmine, that time is riduculous.
Do the ping thing again, but this time instead of typing in pine www.cross (http://www.cross)
type in tracert www cross
The times for each stage of the journey of your route will show. It is the American or the Atlantic crossing that should take the longest..ie the last few hops of the journey.
Lets know how your journey goes.

I would becareful about asuming it will clean stuff from a network computer, there are many places the info is stored that ccleaner cant find.
Tamara Croft

I've used that cleaner before and I don't recommend it. You need to be very careful whilst using it, it deleted a .chm file which happened to be a database that took a long time to create.....grrrrrr......
Not an application I'd recommend for those that don't have a lot of experience with PC's.

I personnally do not know of any safe method of cleaning the selection of cookies that have accumulated...... other than doing it manually.
But, why bother ?

Now to the bones or the meal.. what do I do to remove them ? Other than a long, long & lengthy, manual trudge

Try reading the FAQ once in a while ;)

Follow the instructions, not the 'click here' link.

Hi girls, as far as I know cookies are just text files. The danger comes from the programs that read them. ;)
Sam-antha
05-02-2006, 06:19 PM
It really is an interesting location that FAQ. Been there a while back and has it changed in some respects !!
I take it that all the cookies get cleared.
How about the recent ones I love and use regularly and who will not know me the time after clearance ?
People like CD who go looking for an old and deposited cookie, or do I misunderstand the legal use of the baked beasties.
This thread really has drifted hasn't it ?
But Tamara, my thanks to you
Rachael, are you not really ambiguous....
Do not forget that the danger comes to your programmes that are read by the distant programmes that read them. Sorry could not resist that.

Sort of, the programs that read them can be local, if they are panic!
If they are remote, as the majority are, they are mainly harmless. ;) Not always the case though!

Cookies are basically used for tracking for each website you visit, they aren't dangerous, they pose no threat, but they can be deemed as an invasion of privacy, especially one called Avenue A ;)
Sam you are most welcome.
