Baffled

I don't want this to sound wrong, but I am baffled. The other day (after several tries) I posted two pics of me taken the day after Halloween. Okay. So far I have received some very nice replies and quite a few views (I'm glad to say most of them are not mine).
Now here comes the part that baffles me.
A couple of months ago, I saw something about checking your attachments to see how many downloads there are. Well, I have checked and the second (kind of fuzzy) pic has about 341 downloads! Does that mean that 341 viewers downloaded the pic for their use? That's like 60-some percent of those who viewed the post.
If that's the case, I wonder what 341 members are doing with that pic. Are they all trying to sell it to some dart company? Or comparing it to the wanted posters at the post office?

I don't know how this board works, but here is my guess.

Computers will count is as a 'download' every time it is viewed, since the browser doesn't know if you are downloading it to view, or to save (it is all the same thing to the browser).

I don't know if you've noticed, but non-members do NOT see inline images. Only members who are logged in actually see the photos. So I'm guessing is the difference in numbers you are seeing is the difference between 'anonymous' veiwers who only see the text and 'members' who see the text AND attachments... and are counted as 'downloads'.

I had some that were downloaded 1000s of times. The other day I went in and deleted almost 10 pages of attachments, mostly older ones....

What are they doing with those? I've never downloaded a single pic before. Well. Of a CD. Now some of the Victoria Secret models. :D. Lol

So when are we getting to see the gown pics? Or did I miss them? Loved you phoeos too!!!

Thanks everyone. Cristi, that sounds good. Angela, thanks for the compliment. And there are no airs here. I just thought you Scots were using the pic for some nefarious use like scaring pigeons from church towers.
Natasha -- It would be a case of the blind leading the blind (or the sight-impaired as it is PC these days).
Karren -- What do you hold against those VS models? No, never mind! I did post one gown pic the other week (and it got downloaded 17 times which I was thrilled about). It's on the photo thread somewhere.

This question has been puzzling a bunch of us for a while now. At this stage, no one has been able to come up with an answer....Just go with the flow..If it is any consolation, my one and only photo on the forum has been downloaded in excess of 3000 times:eek: no accounting for some tastes:p

It's 341 views, not 341 individuals :)

It's in the php script I'm sure, just add one when the page is opened.

There's a "Views" tabulation that can be enabled I believe to show how many times the page has been viewed, or maybe that's what you are seeing, either way hitting refresh on the browser DOES in fact add one to that.

Most webservers will use cached information (Sessions) so they know who is unique and who is revisiting a page.

Oh Rats! I have been found out... Sorry girls, but I have to admit... I have downloaded quite a few of your pictures and have them saved to my computer...... It's only because you all are so gorgeous and I enjoy looking at them!

I have tried unsuccessfully to download the vids from "you tube" but if I coudl I would. I enjoy looking at pretty CD'ers and especially those in videos. I get a lot of ideas on what to wear, what looks good and what looks better and how to walk, hold my hands, how to stand, etc...

So.... yes, sometimes the pictures are downloaded....

If anyone would prefer not to have their pics downloaded, then maybe a comment to that effect would be appropriate.:hugs:

right clicking on photo an hitting save as will download the pictures :eek:
however I have been to sites where that feature is locked out, maybe they can lock that feature out on this site to prevent picture downloads.

We did do this a while back for the whole forum, let's just say, it didn't go down well at all. Besides, there are many ways of getting around picture downloading without having to right click and save it.

About the views of pictures.... I don't understand it myself... if it were just views, then it would be the same amount as the thread views one would assume, but that isn't the case ;) So, I'd assume it was how many times someone had saved it to their pc.....
