Where is it appropiate to post pictures?

I posted an image that was an obvious joke ( though perhaps not a good one) relative to MtF in the MtF forum and it got moved to the picture gallery, yet there are a bunch of threads that have photos posted in them or in the original post, in the MtF forum. So what is the metric to use to judge if a picture is appropriate in MtF?

If the main focus of a post has to do with a photo, or if there is more than one photo, then the post goes to the picture gallery. If a photo is simply illustrating a post, then it is up to the moderator as to where it goes, but it is often left to where it was originally posted.
