View Full Version : Searching the forum using Google

Sick of trying to find things using the forum's search function? I know I am. :) So I decided to do something about it...

In the box below is a HTML/Javascript file that provides a Google search box for this forum. Just copy & paste the text below into a file & save it with .html extension. Now open this file and a Web page will open containing a single link :"Search CD.com". Add the link to your Links toolbar (or Favourites menu). The easiest way to do this is by simply dragging the link up to the Links toolbar.

When you click on this link, a Google search box will open that will only search this site.

It has been tested on Firefox 2.0.0.2 & Internet Explorer 6.0, but it should work on all browsers. Of course, it won't work if Javascript has been disabled. If it doesn't work with your browser, please let me know.

If you need more help installing or using this tool please don't hesitate to ask. Any suggestions or constructive criticism is welcome.

That works great, but you should add, you created this for the .au google. The code can be changed to whatever google you use. I use www.google.co.uk.

<Edit> This service is actually offered by google and has now been added at the bottom of the forum and in the search facility ;)

Thanks Tam! I knew there was a little detail I'd forgotten about. :)

The script can easily be changed to work on sites that don't have a Google button, as long as Google actually indexes the site, of course.

Excellent. It'll make cross-referencing threads so much easier.
