View Full Version : Height of the Women

I have seen references sprinkled throughout replies to other threads here. I am just wondering, I was one of the guys that was short. Always the kid in the front row of class pictures. I stand just a shade under 5'6" in my barefeet. I admit now that it feels like a blessing and not so much as being a "vertically challenged" curse. How tall are most of the Women here?

I'm about 5'8", so on the tall side for a woman. I don't wear heels more than about one inch when I'm out in public.
I think women are taller these days than say 50 years ago, so I don't stand out too much.

I'm 6' tall, my ex-wife was 5' 11".

In case anyone is interested, according to the garment industry, in measurements taken in the UK and USA
the average woman in 1950 was 5'2" 37-27.5-39
and in 2004 the average was 5'4" 38-34-40.5

I was all legs then. My torso grew finally but not so much my legs.

I finally was able to round myself up to 5'8" tall by maybe 19 or so. I've shrunk so rounding gives me 5'7" these days I think.

In male mode I have always had a Napoleonic complex. En Femme I feel statuesque in heels with the leg proportion that looks right to me.

5'8" here..kinda tall for an Asian girl, but I love heels. Luckily there are more and more young Asian girls (GG's) as tall as me these days, but almost always wearing flats:(.

Saw a very tall girl today, well over 6', shopping for dresses at Ross. I'm pretty sure she was T, but only noticed her because of her height. Very well put together and wearing nice flats.

Once I saw a 'gurl' walking in the street who was over 6ft. But she carried herself so well the height didn't seem to be a problem at all.

It's all still down to confidence.

A quick note...

Wearing heels does not make you taller by the height of the heels. For example wearing 4" heels only makes you, maybe, 2 1/2 inches taller. If you don't believe this, measure yourself with and without heels.

It has to do with the "fulcrum" of your foot, which is around the ankle, not the heel, and it determines how much height is added.

Think of a seesaw, even if one side is raised high, the "fulcrum" at the center is lower. It's kind of the same principle.

Mitzi, You are correct. There is a geometric progression that causes this phenomenom. Try it at home. Measure yourself with and without heels.

I am 5'9" tall and am well under 6' tall in 3-1/2" heels. BTW, I know a number of women that are as tall or taller than I am who regularly wear 3-4" heels with pride.

Between 6'1 and 6'2. If I ever want to go out dressed, heels are probably a no-no, but I also have men's size 13 feet, which is almost impossible to find women's flats in. No cute ones anyway.

I am 6'- 1.5" on bare feet and I always wear "flat" ballerina's with a 1" heel...and no one seems to notice... I also have a pair of pumps with a 4" heel and I wear those also on my regular Mall shopping tours. No problem with the public... but a problem on my feet. I can't walk more than an hour in them... But I love walking in them regardless.

I buy my shoes on line at designershoes.com and Angelfire they have cute ballerina's in sizes over 12... Here are mine if you want to check them and the sizes out ...

http://www.designershoes.com/designer/product.asp?s%5Fid=0&dept%5Fid=3127&pf%5Fid=PAOHADHNIOCPBNDP&sku=20410&mscssid=TSRVJ4399P8P8NRQ8EE58J6TTDUJ9DC7

I got those in pink... and I am waiting for the following shoes to arrive in taupe...

http://www.designershoes.com/designer/product.asp?s%5Fid=0&dept%5Fid=3126&pf%5Fid=PAOHIDANBPNLJDEL&sku=17101&mscssid=TSRVJ4399P8P8NRQ8EE58J6TTDUJ9DC7

BTW: I bought them both on sale for 29.90 each...

So your size doesn't have to be a problem. And when you are tall, bigger feet are normal... at least they don't stand out.

:love:Dita.

I'm 5'10" , 152 lbs., and agree with Mitch. I had a girl friend that was 6'1" in stocking feet. She didn't stand out because, at 155 lbs., she didn't look big,
( unless she was next to me)! I want to lose about 10 lbs. Because I want a trim figure. Unfortunately, sometimes I want the chubby figure that is more the femme look of today. Plus, your butt and boobs, ( if u have any), might dissappear when a CD slims down. I had to quit lifting weights, too. It's REALLY hard to hide muscles in your upper arms! But, that's another thread, I guess!

Somewhere between 6-0" and 6'-1 1/2", depending on how athletic I have been in the past few days. I actually seem to get taller as I exert myself - probably from fluid buildup in my slightly arthritic knees and collapsed disks in my lower back.

It's kindof fun, as my 30 year old son and I teeter back and forth as to who is taller - some days he is by a smidgin, other days I am noticeably so.

Of course, depending on what heels I am wearing I may be significantly taller, but we haven't done that comparison. :heehee: On the other hand, I don't know what shoes he wears when I'm not around, either.

When I am out in public (guy mode) I always notice the girls who are as tall as I am or taller, and try to study them discretely to see their general body shape, posture, and if anyone else is noticing them. I just came back from a trade show in LasVegas and saw a lot of tall girls. Of course, I'm told that a lot of them are girls like us, although I couldn't tell.
