Why am I here? Because I found out that most of my assumptions were wrong and someone was kind enough to point me in the direction of more information.

Take a good breath first ... it will balance you to some extent and reduce the panicky feeling. Then simply ask if she means to sound so spiteful/hateful/angry... or whatever emotion she is...
