It was an adventure today... so dangerous

Today, I dressed up and went out for shopping in the mall. But when I finally chose a pair of boot and checked out, the salesperson asked for my ID because I was using the credit card. My ID card? Oh my god..... Of course I can't say anything. I just shaked my head. "you dont have your ID?" She was confused, "so do you have debit card?" She kept asking. Thank goodness... I quickly slid the debit card and left as soon as possible.... Perhaps the salesperson has already discovered my secret.

Well, you got through that one. However, since I do not really pass, i.e. I am easily read, when asked I just give them my ID and while they are looking at it make some comment like "I dress up well!". With a little giggle, we are on the same wave length and friends not enemies. Works like a charm and I get to buy what I want, when I want, where I want. That is good! You got out, which is great. Now, accept who and what you are in your own definition, and let others worry and fret about it and not you. Your fear and worry take all the fun out of what should be a special and enjoyable moment. Try it, you' ll love it (once you get the hang of it!).

Stop trying to be a woman and be you darling. You are not going to always pass. You will have those moments that, even if you were the most convincing TGal on the planet, you are going to be clocked.

I just whip out my ID an tell the lucky receipient that if you havent figured it out yet my ID doesn't look exactly like me.

If this really is that big of an issue for you and you are lucky enough to live in a state that will allow you a state ID and a drivers license go get a state ID with your femme pic on it.

Bottom line, be proud girl. You are special and the world is lucky to get to know you for who you are.

It is not unusual for stores to ask for ID with credit cards because of fraud and theft issues. If the name on the credit card matches the name on your ID, you have no problem. Why were you worried? They already had your credit card. I would be happy if they asked for ID. It shows they are concerned about people stealing you credit cards

As my drivers license photo totally does not match my female appearance, when I present it to a sales clerk, I just ususally say..."It was a bad hair day" and smile. Who cares if they clock me or even what they think. It probably makes their borring day complete as they have something to talk about..."Did ya see that guy wearing a dress?....Do ya supopose he's gay...or I wish I could look so good.

So what, just do what you want to do.

thats a neat story, i agree with some of the girls tho...sometimes you gotta bite the bullet...

one time i got id'd and i pulled out my drivers licensce and smiled and said "i've only been a woman for a short time..."...the saleswoman smiled right back and laughed and said i was doing a damn good job!

Once you do this, you'll open up a HUGE realm of possibilities for yourself as you realize that 'getting clocked' is not such a big deal.

Wow.... She probably thought you were a deaf mute or something? I have yet to make it through a checkout line without talking.. My luck when I shook my head yes when asked if I found everything I was looking for... My wig would fall off!! .

I've had to show an ID at stores while dressed, even sometimes with a debit card. All I have is the male DL. the Sa's said thank you and took the money with no commments,stares or issues. Money talks LOUD. It is uncomfortable but not insurmountable. As others have said---"bad hair day".

I'm at a loss as to what danger you thought you were in? The only danger I can see is that in your haste to get out of the store you might have broken your ankle or something.

Okay, I guess I really do know -- you panicked about being clocked. But sugar, odds are you already were and didn't know it. But so what? Look at it another way -- that's actually part of the fun and an opportunity to connect with another human (the cashier). Once every blue moon I get a disapproving frown, but most of the time, it's like Paula and others said, you've actually broken up the monotony for them and given them something to talk about at break time.

Of course, if she gets on the intercom and loudly announces, "Attention K-Mart shoppers, we have a tranny in the store", well, it might be time make a run for it. Or start doing you best Ginger Rogers imitation.

Sorry...but your ID IS your credit card. If I am not mistaken it is against the card issuers policy to require any other ID.
The card is electronically scanned and transmitted for approval and if that approval is given by the issuer then the card is to be accepted. If it is rejected and indicated as lost or stolen, that's another issue, but no ID is needed other than your card and your signature matching that on the card.
Check with your card issuer.

If anybody does read you, it's likely to be a store/mall detective working undercover to catch shoplifters. If you detect one of them really looking at you, leave. Some malls have detectives that work the whole mall, I know of a mall in Charlotte, N.C. that is like that. They go from store to store, and have radios that pass the info that a tranny is on the loose, "WATCH OUT!", they say to one another. Who needs that?

That is a loss for them when the credit card company rejects reimbursement for payment to the store for the pourchase when notified by the card holder. The credit card company doesn't pay, sot who is going to chase down that person who used the stolen card to return the merchandise to the store? The store clearly loses. Yes, it is needed as Lorileah stated.

I'm not challenging you, but rather trying to nail down something I wasn't aware of. Are you saying that in the wonderful world of retail security, "trannys" are profiled as shoplifters?

I would have to disagree with you. It's been a few years since I worked retail but credit cards are not ID. Policy was if the charge was under 100 no ID was needed as long as the signature matched, over that the sales associate needed to verify identity. Reason was if it was a fraudulent charge under 100 the Credit card company ate the charge but over 100 the store ate it. If the card was unsigned you needed ID regardless of the amount. There was always the irate customer with an unsigned card. When I explained the situation that if their card was stolen and signed with their name in the thieves handwriting and you would be stuck with the bill how am I suppose to know. They usually changed their attitude. The signature on modern sig pads is BS. Half never work properly and I now simply make some kind of squiggly mark. It also depends on the sales associate and how new they are. I've charged 800 dollar purchases without a blink but have been asked for ID on 25 dollar purchases.

I agree...always glad when they ask for my ID....wish ALL merchants did!......
