Cedar Springs and Throckmorton streets, refered to the Crossroads in the Uptown area of Dallas. Sue Ellens is a lesbian bar, haven't been there for several years, but there are several other GLTG places in this neighborhood. Nice resturants also, includng the Library Bar in the Melrose Hotel, just two blocks down on Cedar Springs. North Park Mall is a generally friendly place to shop if you reasonablly pass and don't stand out in the crowd toooooo much. Movie theaters there too. Most any mis to upward nice place is generally ok. Don't go to the Rodeo or the Fort Worh Stock Show though...way tooooo much testosterone there. Nana Bar & Grill in the Anatole Hotel is very nice and accepting, though a bit pricey, but what a viwe of Dallas from the top of the tower. I, myself though have never been to the revolving resturaunt in the Ball at Reunion Tower; it was recently remodled and is a Wolfgang Puck Resturaunt. It would probably be a wonderfull meal and time, but I'd definitely make reservations and you could dress up really pretty to go and not stand out...very upscale place.

Dallas is generally friendly in the more upscale places, stay out of the low places. Theres just too many fun places to go shop, drink, eat...whatever.

Have a ball and Welcome to BIG D

    Arlington, Texas

Club 1851, located at 1851 Division Street in Arlington. Small but very friendly gay bar that hosts Drag Shows on Friday and Saturdays. Several of us girls meet on Saturdays, visit, enjoy the shows and go out and enjoy a late night meal at Denny's. Shows are at 10:30 but we start showing up around 9 to 9:30. You can go any night and be totally accepted.

Arlington is just south of Grapevine. The other suggestions are good but if you are not into big rowdy crowds, come to Arlington. Send me a private message if you need directions to any of the suggested places.

    Hi Julie,

I'll add a bit to some of the replies you've gotten so far.

The local LGBT bar scene is centered on the Cedar Springs/Throckmorton area. There's a group of bars in one building that takes up most of the block, owned by Caven Enterprises.

    -TMC is a "boy's club"
-JR's is more of a big pub
-Sue Ellen's is a lesbian club, with dancing on the lower level, live music upstairs. I have never had a problem there, and it's a good place to people watch.
-Station 4 (S4) is a big gay dance club. Huge floor, with outdoor areas and an upstairs chill-out area.
-The Rose Room is inside S4 and has drag shows nightly (closed Monday and Tuesday)

The Round-Up is directly across from S4 on Cedar Springs and yes, it's a country bar, but girls like us are welcome. Hung Dinger is an Italian place with drag performers. The Black-Eye Pea is comfort food, and the best chicken fried steak in Texas. Cafe Brazil is the best breakfast food you'll eat in town. The Bronx is where a lot of us go for dinner before going out. Buli has great coffee and sandwiches (served in lunchboxes).

Beyond the "gayborhood?" The Library at the Warwick (Cedar Springs and Oak Lawn) has that old money feel but they're used to us. Nana (top floor of the Hilton Anatole) is a place we've visited often; an upscale hotel lounge but great views at night. The Grapevine on Maple is a neighborhood bar that seems to have a lot of open-minded folks. Jack's Backyard is a funky gay place on Commerce.

Hope this helps; drop me a line if you have a more specific question.

Texas seems to be a pretty good place for crossdressers; does it have good protections for transgenders?

Seriously? Texas has ZERO protections for transpeople. Individual cities have non-discrimination ordinances, and cities like Houston and Dallas and Austin are great. But the state has passed anti-gay marriage laws, drags its feet at prosecuting hate crimes, and has a poor record when it come to GLBT protections.
