When you discovered you were not alone

Im curious at what age you discovered you were not alone in crossdressing, and that others shared your desires and compulsions.

I was about 18 years old and read a story in Penthouse forum about a guy who dressed up and ....... There was no internet back then..

I read about it in my high school health book, so probably 16 or 17 is when I discovered basic terminology.

About 15/16 when I saw a Donahue show about CDs. Did not even know it was on, I was just flicking through the channels. My dad was in the room but luckily he was reading the newspaper so I was able to continue watching although very nervous he would notice I was watching too ardently!

The following day I went off to the library to look up "transvestite". Found nothing so I looked up psychology books instead and eventually found a couple of pages on it.

Had no idea of the huge extent of our community until I got access to the internet in 1997.

Strange, but I can't remember when I first discovered that I wasn't actually alone in my compulsion to crossdress. What I can remember is thinking for years that I must be the only person in the world, who has this type desire.

I did a spell on stage at the age of 12 in a piece about the 'Moulin Rouge' night club. Dressed as a women in the club audience, unfortunately not one of the dancers. (What a fantastic experience that was, but that's another story.)
However, even with this experience I just assumed that people dressed in womens clothing purely for entertainment and not something that other people did in private.

Then at around 16/17, I remember a tremendous a sense of relief knowing that I was not alone in my crossdressing, but for the life of me, I can't remember a particular incident that endorsed this realization.

for me I Think it was donahue too. They showed a bunch of crossdressers/pre-ops, and then they brought a guy out from the audience to makeover, and at the end of the show they brought him back out (my favorite kind of show).. He had a blonde bob wig, and this evening gown (fuzzy top, black skirt). I was so blown away how just a few things made him look so different. Shortly after I saw some story on a transexual in vegas that started doing dance shows, and they showed how she wasn't allowed in her high school reunion because of the situation. I think I was like 14-15.. Started dressing when I was 16.

It was really when I bought a computer and I discovered that lots of men wore dresses and also had a female name to go with their feminine side that would be around eight years ago. And what I have found is that most men are hetrosexual crossdressing in secret and due to the internet are learning that they are not alone or anyway strange millons of guys crossdress. At the end of the day its better than being a drug addict and the PC means that Janegirls meet with others around the world and educated in becoming better Janegirls who dress guilt free and willing to open the gate to female freedom within themselves. Yes I was encouraged to open the envelope more and more and continuing to learn how to be a better Janegirl/crossdresser. I think finding others like myself and seeing crossdressers walking in a parade has given me the courage to go out in a skirt and to buy a skirt twice in person who knows one day I may yet go to the TV Scotland event held each year. This site helps too to discover the Janegirl within and to talk with other girlies. Keep on skirting girls its a lifestyle choice we need to make our life worth living.

Hello Brianne ............................Can't remember how old I was exactly, must have been around 10 years old, but I read something about April Ashley's GRS and I knew then that I wasn't alone with my feelings.

She is one of the people who I really admire.

    T.V. Talkshow, sketch..

Well not counting crossdressing in comedy shows like SNL, because while I saw that others did it, their usuage was for comedy. Although I like to laugh I was not doing it for giggles.

I started dressing in some form or another around age 6 (curiosty as to how it felt was the main reason then) Like a few have posted before it was not till around early adolesence that I found out other people do it for many reasons and some of them were the same as mine! that was a good day. I think it was probably Danahue or Maury.

There were all those "others" on TV and mags, but they weren't real to me until I found the forums sometime last year and realized the extent of it all. The cyberworld still makes me wonder sometimes, but reading about the girls who go out and get together and looking at some of the questions and predicaments, I know i am in good company.
`Who are YOU?' said the Caterpillar. Alice replied, rather shyly, `I--I hardly know, sir, just at present-- at least I know who I WAS when I got up this morning, but I think I must have been changed several times since then.'

They were my neighbors. When I was a teen, for awhile I lived in Hell's Kitchen in NYC and my neighbors were Cds, Ts's whatever they were called back then. Most of them were working girls.

:eyes: I must of been around 13 or so. I have a sister and when I was younger I so loved how pretty and sexy she was. She use to wear skirt and dresses to school and always looked so fem and pretty. One day dont know actually why no one was home. So went into her bedroom and slipped into a pair of panties, hose, skirt and blouse and well got in front of a full length mirror and actually was so surprised at the results. Since than have always had that desire to look fem. Than I met a gg friend that loved cd's and convinced me to move on with my desire of crossdressing.

I didn't have Amelie's advantages of growing up in a mixed neighborhood. I was raised in a suburban, white bread, middle-class "Leave It to Beaver" environment, not very conducive to even knowing about other lifestyles.
I thought I was an anomaly until I discovered a paperback on a drug store spinner rack titled "Behold, I am a Woman" in 1970 or so when I would have been fifteen years old. I read and reread that book numerous times and this led me to look for more books at better stocked outlets.

I saw my first porn magazine. Not Pen House or Playboy. I ask where he got that book. He told me in a porn store. I went driving and found it in NJ. I guess I was 18 or 19 and saw tv/tg and want ad in a newspaper.

I have believed that their were other girls like me out there However, until I joined this forum I began to realize that it was much more common than I thought. I am happy knowing other people share this desire and are proud of it.

    Wink

For a long time i thought i was alone. My father caught me wearing my sister's panties told me told me that i was a sissy, and that men never act girly. It wasn't until I was in my 20's that I found out there other guys that loved wearing ladies clothes. I never realized til now, thanks to this site, just how many sisters are out there.

I'm very shy so this place is great for me. I will admit my desire to go out en femme has gotten so much stronger since coming to this site. Looking forwarded to being all dolled up and having pics taken so that i can post them here.

I discovered I was not alone when I saw magazines in a Porn shop. I remember it was a title something like "FI" (female impersonator). It was not a XXX magazine but articles and pictures of guys dressed attending "a retreat" of sorts. I learned terminology such as Transvestite in that magazine. I set out to learn as much about the subject that I could in the library and in porn magazines. I do remember seeing a film, with my parents as I recall, about an english family where the grown son was quite out spoken about wearing panties. I remember not being able to forget about that movie. Can't remember the name but it would have been made in the early 60's.
