Why do you call yourselves GGs and GMs

It sounds like something taken out of a porn movie. No offense, but it does.

How do you know you are a GG or GM, did you take a chromosome test?

Or what is the definition, XX XY or XXY or genitals, pitch of voice, emotions?

GG has been in use since the 70s, if not before (it appeared in Virginia Prince's Transvestia magazine.) It is based on genetics, a genetic non-intersexed female born female. I suppose it isn't a perfect term, but do you know how hard it would be to find a politically correct replacement term everyone agrees on, given how incredibly "PC" the TG community can be?

Vickie, what a wonderful reply. At least somebody knows the history of our community. Way too many people do not realize who actually started everything that we enjoy today.

there are all sorts of terms. I hate 'GG' but it seems to be convenient. Otherwise there are long and tedious terms like above and terms like 'women born women' or 'female at birth'

I don't like the term GG either. but as others have said, it makes it easy to distinguish exactly who you are referring to in a post. Many Cd's and of course TS's (and rightfully so) refer to themselves as female or a woman, that we need some way to express that we mean Genetic Girl (born genetically female) in our conversations and posts. As for the abbreviation of GM, don't like that one either. For some dumb reason I mixed it up to mean Gay Male and not Genetic Male! Hmm. wonder why I never thought about someone meaning Gay Girl for GG?
Simply stated it's just to be clear about exactly who we are talking about.

In the sense that these terms are used within this site, they refer to someone's genetic sex rather than gender. It is a convenient shorthand to distinguish between those who were classified as female on their original birth certificate from those who were classified as male on their original birth certificate.

Now, aside possibly from those members who are (or were) intersex, most of us know if we were classified as female or as male at the time that we were born. We can therefore tell whether we fall into the GG or GM category without having to set a test for our chromosomes to complete.

I am not in favor of chromosome testing. The chromosomes just get nervous under pressure and then tend to give the wrong answers.

As a side issue, have any of you had testing? That is, what are your chromosomes? Do any of you know if you have one of the situations where a missing gene causes an intersex condition?

I like female at birth which would be shortened to FAB, which is a term from the 60's meaning fabulous and it certainly would FAB to FAB wouldn't it.

No offense to anybody, but is there anything else that would be more interesting in a Thread? I am 78 y/o and the terms GG's and GM's both have been around as long as I can remember!! If you don't like the terms that is tough. It is the way life is! And I may be old but I still have my mind!!

GG, GM, CD, TV, TS, TG, they are just easy short hand for what most of are familiar with, it's saves a lot of typing. I know I don't usually use those terms in conversation, but they speed up getting a thought across when writing.

I've been around the gender community since the 1970's, and this is the first that I've seen where GM means Genetic Male. The only way I've seen GM used before was to indicate Gay Male.

Because GG or GM is easier than writing out, 'female at birth' and/or 'male at birth'. People in the gender flexible world know what the terms mean.

There's an addendum at post # 82 on that thread, too. It's about a ten minute read.
Why don't we understand our desire to dress, behave and feel like a girl? Because from childhood, boys are told that the worst possible thing we can be, is a sissy. This feeling is so ingrained into our psyche, that we will suppress any thoughts that connect us to being or wanting to be feminine, even to the point of creating separate personalities to assign those female feelings into.

I'm NOT and I don't! Never have, never will! However, U can call me whatever u like! Quite a few here DO!
U can't keep doing the same things over and over and expect to enjoy life to the max. When u try new things, even if they r out of your comfort zone, u may experience new excitement and growth that u never expected.

I have GG on my profile to show that non-TGs also are showing support to the community and also so that I can respond defensively to stupid threads (like the ones that are showing up more and more lately) that put today's "genetic women" in a negative light. You'd be surprised to know how many on this site are sexist. I'm proud of the way I was born and see nothing wrong with saying that I was born female. If you see something wrong with it, then I cannot help you.

Thanks for all your replies. That was interesting. Personally I don't use these, so wanted to hear from those who did,

    Shananigans-oh yes I know.
Saying you are female is not the same as saying you are genetic girl. Genetic is a strong word. And there are just two genetic labels, girl and male. I feel like the CD, TS, TG labels are different and not in the same league. They don't have the genetic variant. Maybe they should all be updated with genetic first, to make it fair?

GG as in "I am a female and I am not TG, but I am on the website to offer support."

Genes are genes are genes. No one is putting their chromosomes on their profile, no. But, unless you have a genetic disorder, you were born with a very black and white "male or female code." That "simple" code does not exemplify your internal thought process or gender identity. It just says, "This is the genetic card I have been dealt." If you have a problem identifying as a GM or a GG BECAUSE you are TG, then you don't have to put it on your profile.

But, that doesn't mean that you have to push your TG beliefs about the terminology onto others who are not bothered by what sex they were dealt.

I personally am not TG. I was born with external female anatomy. I have GG on my profile for the above stated reasons. My SO (for example) is under the TG umbrella, but he has no qualms identifying as GM and so he joined that private section.

It's a personal preference. If you don't like it, don't put it on your profile or join things like FAB or GM. If you like the complexity of the genetic card that you have been dealt and the fact that you may identify internally as something completely different, put it on your profile and join those forums.

At the end of the day, you could be lying about what card you have been dealt. But, that wouldn't surprise me any more than other things that people lie about on the internet.

And, yes, btw, I DID have to be phoned and had to pass a voice test to join FAB (just to make sure I was actually a GG). Not because it's an exclusive club or anything, but because it's a different support area of the forum and women who are dating CDs who want to ask questions or voice concerns that they may not want their SO to see (maybe he'll worry about it) can do so without fear that someone joined up just to spy on what they are asking on there. So, the FAB section isn't the same as putting GG on your profile, but I see these as interchangeable terms to be quite honest.

So for you ****tards that are soooooo confused:

How about I HAVE A REAL LIVE~LIVING VAGINA WITH A CERVIX and I HAVE like ovaries AND I BLEED, AS IN BLOODY, BLOODY PAINFUL CLOTS/CRAMPS EVERY MONTH AND I MOST LIKELY WILL RUIN every SAID PRETTY, PRETTY PANTIES that now, NO amount of scrubbing with any cold water or solution can ever rescue (let alone my lovely sheets!)
Or I CAN HAVE A BABY THROUGH MY CERVIX THROUGH MY VAGINIA INTO SAID DOCTORS HANDS and only if I need to I CAN DELIVER MY BABY THROUGH AN INCISION INTO MY TUMMY into said Doctors hands.
So, what part of GG do you not understand?
I cannot wait to enlighten you.
