As to being "embarassed"- that may not have been the right word. I am proud of my service. I just wish I could have done more when I was in. I was shy about not getting more promotions in the time I was in. I do hold a grudge with Shinsecki ,the mastermind behind the berets for everyone in the Army, when he was my Squardron (Bn) CDR. Due to a time lapse of receiving my test MOS annual results back in a timely manor he kept me off the promo list an extra 90 days and that delayed my promotion to SSG for over 3 yrs more. Almost got kicked out when they were reviewing E5's with over 13 years svc for dismissal. Okay I am done venting. I got that off my chest.

Well, I've read all of the responses so far and I will say I would be proud to have served with any or all of you folks. I love my country, would do anything for my fellow citizens, I just hated the Army. Even so, I managed to do it my way more or less.

Oh, Gabi - my tongue is, as always, firmly lodged in my cheek. I'm not embarrassed about being enlisted, nor do I really think it was 'lowly.' I chose to remain enlisted even after my degrees. As I put it to my commander when he wanted to put me in for OCS, "Sir, please don't. I feel that I can still supervise and serve just fine as enlisted."

I made it to SP4 promotable to E-5 in three years. Right after I took the E-5 exam, they raised the points on me so I didn't get SGT. I ended my elistment after the mandatory three and went back to school with some cash and a much better attitude than when I had dropped out. Besides I was in a dead end mos that basically had a one mission life span if the baloon had ever gone up during the cold war. MSD on the weapon was 3 miles and the team had to guard the weapon until it went off so it wouldn't fall into enemy hands. Thank god they disbanded the entire MOS and company before the gulf wars started....

22 Years in the Corps. Retired MSgt, or E8 for those that look at it that way. Very interesting to see the number of military here! Were we all trying to hide the fem side by strong counter balance on the male side?

Commander (0-5 for my Army and Air Force buddies) - now retired - but rank means nothing. What is important is that we served. Thank you, each and every one of you, for your service. I am proud to be your sister.

Wow, we have enough officers and enlisted that we could have our own Army/Navy/Marines/AirForce/CoastGuard. Now all we need is some high ranking civilian and staff at the Pentagon, maybe even some Company folks!

Spent my first four years (79-83) as a gunner on those tanks. Hmmm.....

Proudly made it to E-7 during a period when they weren't promoting much in my field. 20 years well spent.

E4 Radarman 3rd class petty officer, USNR active 1964-1965, got out just before the Navy got active in Nam. I got out to get married to my high school girl friend, should have stayed in, a reenlistment would have lasted longer.

Thanks sisters!! It was a thread like this last year that really let me know I wasn't alone. It is also important to note that being gender variant has nothing to do with honorable and brave service!

Oh yeah, one final thought. I notice there are a lot of my sea service shipmates here. Maybe we can petition the Navy to commission a TG-crewed ship. What would they name her???
