All this talk of "preparation" reminds me of the story of an Australian who saw a tremendous global conflict on the horizon. He decided to move to a remote island where he and his family could wait it out, far from any fighting.

The island he chose was called Guadalcanal.

We all see ourselves as the brave survivors of the apocalypse, but the hard truth is that there is no way that half a billion people can exist as hunter-gatherers in North America. 99% of us would be dead within a few years The only way that we all survive and prosper is through intensely efficient agriculture. All of our eggs are in this basket and if we want to survive we had better ensure that the infrastructure survives.
