In my earlier years I took everything said at face value. That's what he/she said, so that's what was meant, right? Uh-huh, I wised up eventually.
One thing I did learn (besides "Nothing!" means a whole lot!) is when a woman says "What?", she heard you all right; she's now giving you the chance to revise that statement you just made.
