Sudden inspiration, seven months in advance...

I was driving home from Walmart last night, flipping back and forth through channels on the Sirius radio, when, on the 70's channel, they started playing "Witchy Woman" by the Eagles...

And then a flash of inspiration hit me!

Last year, there was a costume contest at the office the day before Halloween. There'll probably be another one this year. What if I were to enter the contest...as a witch? By which I mean, of course, a female witch...

I would probably be halfway to winning the costume contest on sheer audacity alone. But, since I can't completely count on audacity, I would try to be the best-looking witch I could. (Even if I were portraying a "wicked" witch, because Evil Is Sexy, right? ) And this would be a way to be kind of "Amy in stealth mode" for a day...no one needs to know about that part...

The dress would be the easiest part; this is just one of HolyClothing's dresses that look "witchy." And I found some ankle boots that would match it well, with laces, pointed toes, and 3-1/2" stiletto heels. Add a hat and a broomstick, and I'd be most of the way there!

I've thought of more details, too, like maybe long black lace fingerless gloves to dress up my arms a bit, and silver pentacle earrings and pendant as appropriate "witchy" accents. And, of course, I'd need to find the right makeup and nail colors...

There's certainly a risk, even if it's a small one, that I'd blow my cover this way. I can imagine some of the questions: "How did you find all these in your size? Did you borrow them from your fiancee? How can you walk in those shoes? And where did you get those boobs?" I've got a good answer to all those, though..."Magic."

Starting thinking about this early is probably a good thing; it means I have plenty of time and chance to get everything together the way I want it. So what do you think? Am I onto something here? Or should I lay off the 70's music?

Go for it! If you can get some professional makeup and really create deep ravines on your face and a wart on your nose, I think your cover will not be blown.

On the other hand, if I were a lot younger, and had the audacity, I'd be going as Glenda, The Good Witch.

Amy, just go out and do it.
Halloween is the time to come out gently, and you can do it.
    Blowing your cover?
If you look good as you are, people will be impressed and are not likely to overthink the situation.
    Work on your elegance,
    and beauty will follow.

Here's a thought for you: I attended a Halloween party one year as a "Witchy Kaye" cosmetics saleswitch.

Green skin, a little cosmetic case, and a few "catalogs" that I printed up. Got to talk to a lot of the women by telling them their skin was far too pale, not nearly green enough, and that I could help them.

    Hugs,
    Persephone.

Amy, go for it. I did the witch program more than once, when our daughter was young and needed an escort going door to door for her treats. One year, we had three witches in the family. Now, I just look like a witch and can't even go out! LOL I love your choice of dress.

Here's a pic when I was younger and more beautiful.

Sounds great! But if you're like my daughter, you will change your mind 47 more times before Halloween

I'm going to avoid the green makeup. I think my inspiration for the look will be Samantha Stevens from Bewitched, who was known to wear the classical "witch" costume on occasion. Besides, that dress is too pretty, with all its embroidery, for an "ugly" witch to wear! But that means I'll need a cape to add to the costume.

Oddly enough, my fiancee saw an ad on Facebook for the Alyssa dress, and she told me, "Dear, I want one of these!" I looked at it and said, "That's the one I'll be getting for my witch costume!" And guess which color she likes it in? Black! So we'll be getting two more dresses of the same style again...this one the same color, but different sizes.

Now, if I really wanted to be convincing, I could bring along our cat...she's mostly black, and thus well-suited for the role of witch's familiar. At least I'll want to take some pictures with her...

Just a note, cats and pantyhose generally do not go well together.

Nor do cats and silicone breast forms! Our cat likes to climb up on my lap to be held, and in Amy mode, I have to tell her, "Mind the boobies!" One errant claw into a form could ruin my whole day.

But I've taken pictures with her before, during my "Pretty in Pink" photo shoot, for one. As long as I know when to put her down, it's OK.
