I read a thread yesterday started by Michelle789, "Transphobia: Always was, And Always Will Be", and I responded with my take on the OP's premise, albeit my take was a little on the negative side. Anyways, later, while watching a tennis match, I started thinking about "transphobia" in the pro sporting world. I started wondering if there would ever be an "open" CD, say, on the tennis court? I mean a male CD in a tennis "dress" playing against another male? Or, possibly, even a MTF transsexual playing pro tennis against another woman? It doesn't have to be confined to a tennis court, either. How about professional swimming? Will we ever see a male CD in a one piece competing against another guy in a swim relay? How about a FTM transsexual competing in a relay swim against another guy? How about at one of the Olympics?
I know there have been a few, a very few, instances of transsexuals making news in pro sports over the past several years. I think there may have been a Russian who was questioned about her birth gender in some sport. I can't remember what it was. I think there was another story about a MTF transsexual who was questioned about her birth gender not that long ago. I think she was a runner. I KNOW I have NEVER heard of a CD playing a sport in the dress of her/his emulated gender.
Do you ever think that we will get to the point where we will see "openly CD" players on any court, or track, or field in pro sports? And I'm not talking about Novak Djokovic doing a Maria Sharapova impersonation on the tennis court. I'm talking legitimately. In ANY sport.
As far as seeing "known" MTFs or FTMs transsexuals competing in pro sports, I understand that this would be more complicated. It would be more complicated (mostly for MTFs) because you would have "birth" males playing against ciswomen. But still, do you think that day will ever come? I don't think cismales would be as "concerned" (for lack of a better word) playing against someone who was born female but transitioned to male. I could be wrong about that. But, I do think that a lot of pro female athletes would be concerned about having to compete against a transitioned MTF transsexual.
I don't even think the rules makers know how to deal with this, surely not now, anyway. I think the whole thing would bring about a LOT of controversy. Heck, we're just at the infant stages of having an out gay pro football player.
Just curios as to everyone's thoughts. Sort of trying to put a measure out there of where WE are and how far there still is to go.
