U. S. Army 1963 - 1985 Two all expense paid vacations to Vietnam. (1966-67 and 1968-69) No place to keep things in the barracks, so it was thrift shop junk at a motel, then trash it all. Got married in 1975. Told my wife and have been in panties since. When the girls got married, I was in a dress right after I got home. Been married 39 years.
US Navy active duty 1986-88 and reserve 88-94. During that time I did not think of dressing. I went on a 20 year hiatus after my teen years. I was more into sailing (owned a small sailboat), drinking with buddies, and chasing women.

USN joined to try to find the man in me you know what's more manly than the military, sure were a lot men just like me. Just served to confuse me more.

1963-1967 U S Navy musician (piccolo/flute/tenor sax - MU-2
1967-1975 US Navy Reserves - Reenlistment and Retention petty officer (NRSD 5-5) and riot control sharpshooter TAD (SAM&R 5-3)-Did not reenlist in reserves in 1975 because they started messing up my pay when I was TAD with a SAM&R unit (for riot control training) and was not being credited for drill time, and passed the exam for E-6 the third time, but was passed over for advancement again because I was not active duty
Never thought about dressing until 2005, when I had to be an "over the top" drag queen as a musician in Cabaret. I guess I'm another late bloomer.
I am astounded at how many Vietnam-era people there are on here. Funny - I joined the Navy to avoid being shot at, but got to enjoy that privilege in downtown Baltimore when they decided to riot after MLK was assassinated.

My active duty retirement was effective at midnight last night, so I have only been a retiree for 12 hrs and 50 minutes. All together it has been 27 yrs. (with not even 1 single day of lost time at that) between being in two different branches of the U.S Armed Forces.

I had a few years active US Air Force and stationed in the UK. I was able to limit my dressing to weekends and off duty hours. After that I was US Army and Air Guard. Dressing wasn't an issue till an email I sent at my civilian job found its way to my 1st Sgt. His only question was "is my wife's underware drawer safe?" I never heard another word about it. I'm now retired after 22 years.
20 years USAF, with a six month TDY to Viet Nam '67-'68. Got home a few days before the TET offensive. No real interest in CD until perhaps '77, then sporadic afterwards. Now I wear pantyhose as an underlayer in cold weather, and my wife knows about it. I also regularly wear knee-highs as socks, because I have grown to hate thick socks and they are the thinnest I can find.

US Navy, enlisted as a data systems technician and petty officer, shortly after Vietnam. But I really didn't like living in close quarters with lots of guys, and got out again as soon as I possibly could. At the time I wasn't cross dressing at all, and didn't have any strong 'feminine' urges, but knew I had bisexual inclinations and I was trying very hard to deny my bisexuality and play it straight. Yet thinking back on it, my feelings at the time were almost what I would expect of a girl who was forced to live in close confines with a bunch of guys, while trying to masquerade as a guy and not get caught! I'd tried on women's clothes when younger, in secret, but wasn't doing that at all by the time I enlisted. But it just felt 'wrong' for me to be showering and undressing with other guys.

I prefer the term "former" military to ex, or maybe in my case, Government equipment put into retired surplus. 23 year Coast Guard. And love every moment of it.

Pre-CD, TV TS or whatever it is I am. 21 Years (retired) USN active & reserve.
Navy, NROTC 73-77, Nuclear submarines, officer, 78-85.
300 days at sea or foreign ports the first year ... our fast attack boat had the newest stuff and we were the Lant fleet's new toy.
Be assured ... in those days if the bad guys had ever considered opening a missile hatch ... they never would have got one off.
How simple it was back then ... there were the bad guys and us guys. KaCfC.
And then we won the Cold War, I got out because I thought it was all over, and since then it has all gone to such a confusing place.
These days, I fear for our kids in uniform ... that what they do will not be wasted. It is such a sacrifice ... sometimes the ultimate.
Someone said they sweated clearances ... I can relate. I had to dress occasionally, but it was always in fear and under immense control to be sure I could not be found out.
My first post here. Hello everyone! USAF '75 to'81 didn't dare to dress while on active duty. Things my be different now. Anything different was very much frowned upon back then. (if you know what i mean!)
