    Nail salon

Just wanted to share my latest nail salon visit. On vacation in Arizona with my wife, we're having a slow day when she suggests we should go get a mani pedi. Oh yay I'm always up for that. We're all settled in, very nice and professional nail techs. Not much chit chat between myself and the tech, (that's pretty normal for my experiences in nail salons) she's just about done with the massage part, and asked if I want some color, clearly expecting me to say no. Oh the smile that lit up her face when I said yes, she got very excited. Brought me over about 10 shades to chose from, I had asked for a burgundy color. Anyway just wanted to share the part about her smile, made my day.

If you've been wanting to get a pedi go for it you'll love it.

I'm not up to going out dressed yet, I was just wondering earlier this morning if many CDers like to have their nails painted. I love it myself, but am restricted to toes unless I get dressed up with it.

I too am restricted to toes (for now), but I'm delighted to hear that your nail tech was positive when you said yes. :-)

I get a pedi every now and then from one of the local Indian casinos near me. I always get color.
One time I asked the tech "How many other men ask for color?"
She just smiled and said "More than you think."

I just made an appointment for my first pedi. My feet get very dry, and start to crack, so I asked about it at the salon I get my hair cut. I got the response I was hoping for..."you should try a pedi". The girl that does them is extremely attractive, and having a young, good looking girl massage my feet can't be a bad thing! I was thinking that if she asks about color, I will tell her to surprise me and pick what she likes. She is very fun, and loves to joke around. Not sure what do do if she doesn't ask...it would be easier if she brings it up!

Prettytoes, if the nail tech doesn't mention colored polish on her own, go right ahead and ask for it yourself. I promise she won't pull the fire alarm.

In NJ men's pedi's are often times cheaper so I always book a women's pedi so they have time for color. it also leaves me less opportunity to chicken out.

I don't mean to hi-jack, but question, what kind of foot wear do you bring for your pedicure? What about drying time? The only thing that would get me is if I had to linger around longer as more customers showed up. It does sound like a great way to be pampered though.

I've been getting mani every 3 weeks & pedi every 6 for about the last year. My nails are so thin they often split & tear. Then I need acrylic to keep them together until they grow out. I usually go in shorts & flats. It seems there are often men there, alone or with a SO, getting the same. I've yet to do color, but sometimes clear polish, or just buff & polish. I'm worth it!

Take a pair of flipflops. That is what I do.

Thanks for this thread. It has given me the encouragement I need to get a mani/pedi and to ask for color.

Thank you Andie and Jodi from me too. I not only need to do this, it's been something I "have" to do. Now I need to find my flip-flops.

Joni, I would highly recommend a sandal where the upper part opens completely and closes with velcro; something where you don't have to carefully slide your feet in.

Something like this style makes it easy to get your feet into without having to worry about smudging your nails.

If you do wear the traditional "thong" style, put your slippers on first, then have the tech apply color.

I get monthly mani/pedis at a nice, small med spa. Started out with no polish or clear. Developed a relationship with the nails techs over time. Now get clear every time and they don't seem to care at all. Haven't had the guts to ask for color. I think that might set off the other clients, but the techs wouldn't care.

I've gone for two pedis and one mani, both times with my make-up coach. Pedicures are wonderful and I hope to go on a regular basis with or without my mentor. The second time was with acrylic for the same reason a previous post mentioned. Yes, I do have them colored a nice red.

I got a pedi a few weeks ago. It was my first without my wife. I go in straight up guy mode. I walked in, told the lady what I wanted and sat down. I even showed her a picture of the color I wanted on my nails. We didn't say much if anything at all. I had fun and I made sure to tip her a few bucks extra. I'm going back Tuesday for another. This time I'm getting a pink, red or maroon for Valentine's with some decor of hearts or something too.

I just got back from nail salon tonight (Friday), had a pedi with a pretty fuchsia color and a design of white and silver lines on big toes, a top coat of clear silver sparkle over my own mani that I did yesterday in fuchsia bling bling color, my finger nails are 1/4 inch past the tip of my fingers with a squared off tip, also had my brows waxed, it took about two hours, I had a very good time, I go every three or four weeks for this pleasure, for several years now, I always go 100 % fem. I took a three pound box of chocolate candy to the salon for Christmas for all the girls in the salon and they are still talking about how good it was. I am amazed at how many of the women customers want my real nails, while they are getting fake nails. Every one of you should go and enjoy, I have never had any one act bad to me, only nice times with other people out and about.. Marshalynn

The nail tech is working on 20 clients a day, exposed to lots of dust from filing and various chemicals, but you are only in the salon for a couple of hours every few weeks. Your level of exposure is much less.

The wife and I go for pedis about every 4 or 5 weeks. No color for me as she doesn't know yet. She thinks I'm sure in my masculinity.

I love the idea of going for a pedi, but haven't got to that comfort level yet. Just this Fall I first painted my nails, then a friend did it for me too. I love being barefoot when I can just to see them. It's a significant step in feeling feminine for me. I've enjoyed reading all of your experiences so far.

I went for my first manicure and pedicure with my make-up coach to a crowded nail salon in a shopping mall. It was interesting to say the least. I was attending a holiday dinner/dance sponsored by the Chicago Gender Society and wanted to look my best. In the salon, I did my best to avoid looking at everyone else as it was crowded. I had my toes painted a nice red. I was then led over to a manicure table that was right next to the window looking out into the mall hallway. Needless to say, I did not stare out that window for the whole time, including the time it takes for the nails to dry-again a nice red. I'll be having a manicure again this month for a February event. I think I'm going to the salon this time, alone.

Went for my first mani-pedi today. First salon was booked so second one .
Totally enfem and not a remark or smirk or anything. Felt like one of the girls.
Enjoyed it a lot. Mani will have to come off tomorrow but toes will stay pink for awhile.

I get a mani every 3 weeks by my Vietnamese specialist, Dee. She puts acrylic on the pinkie finger that always splits down the center and gel on the others. She then finishes it with a clear coat, then a very light pink - to give the nails a healthy look - then a top coat. Before I started seeing her about 3 years ago I always trimmed my nails by biting them - a very bad habit. No more. When I go "out" Dee gives me more colour and then removes the colour the next day and returns it to the very light pink. She gave me a couple of pedis, but because of having DMII, I only do that perhaps once a year. It's an indulgence that everyone here should enjoy.

I'm a regular and some of the other customers have seen me enough that we have a nodding acquaintance. So go ahead, enjoy this little luxury, you won't freak anyone out.
