I'm trying to figure out why I like to do these things....

    Hi all,

There is the Pride Week coming here soon and I have an opportunity to get all glammed up for free by a big name hair salon in town. They said they'll do up a few queens that want to ride on their float with them. I'm not a Queen pre se' but a lot of my friends are. I consider myself TG but there are folks on this forum that sure say otherwise anyway that really doesn't matter right now. I expressed interest a little too late to the hair salon and only to find out that they are full of people already. However they did ask for my pictures and said that there MIGHT be an opportunity for a Queen to carry their banner for them in front of the float. This means a few things

#1. I will get help from the salon pro's to look my best on parade day. Yee ha!!!!!!!!!!!!!

#2. This would be a heck of a lot of fun. Ye ha!!!!!!!!!!!

#3. I would be in front of some big news cameras in one of my themed costumes on TV. Could someone really recognize me , what are the chances? Hmmmm.......

#4. Why do I continue to play with fire? Don't know hmmmmm......

#5. Trying to figure out whether or not to take the chance and do it..... Priceless if I did.....

    Cheers Gang!

    Hi Launa,

I don't think anyone would blame you for feeling uncomfortable about going out in that setting but judging by your excitement, I bet you'd feel really disappointed if you didn't go through with it. If going out more in public is what you want to do, that type of event would likely be the best/safest place to do it. I'm assuming your major apprehension is that someone will recognize you on TV so you'll have to figure out whether the risk is worth the reward. I can't speak for everyone but I think the reason why I go out more and more is because it allows me to be who I am out in the open and not shut away. I think that the more I do this, the more tired I am of hiding everything. Keep us posted what happens. <3

Do you have some remarkable physical attribute that would make you easy to pick out when dressed and made up? A huge tattoo on your body for example? If not, then there's very little chance that you'll be recognized. A much bigger chance that you'll be so thrilled you start showing pictures around the office.

Numbers one and two would be the fun things for sure and very safe, number three would be the thrill of having the fun from one and two. Now number four (remember I'm no professional but most of us deep down have a desire to live on the danger zone side, if you pull it off the the thrills will become harder to to find as the last one is now old hat and we have to push the limits a little farther. The fifth one goes with number four if you pull it off what will be the next bigger thrill? lol hard to stop sometimes.

Yes my only fear is I'm not ready to own it at work etc... Anything else goes. Will keep you posted as I'm going in the parade just not ready to carry the banner!

No nothing stands out on me such as a tattoo or a 3rd arm. Its just hoping my disguise is good enough. What could the chances be 1% if your done really well? And you're right about showing the pictures!

Yes it seems like its getting harder to stop. I've got another fashion event to attend in 2 weeks and there are a lot of costumes and pictures, some media pictures for it too.

The fact that you'll be a "queen," rather than trying to blend in, sort of invites people to look at you carefully, even if you have a great "disguise," to see if they can see the hints to your maleness. And that maximizes the chance that somebody will say, "OMG, I think that's a guy I work with."

For me, a totally closeted CD--no one knew my secret--I believe that the risk factor was part of the thrill of dressing up. Could that be a part of it for you, too? It's worth examining yourself for that motivation, I think, because it's not something you want happening in an unconscious way. You have to be very careful when you're playing with fire, and if you are somehow minimizing the risks in order to heighten your pleasure, you could get burned. As long as you keep that in mind, get glammed up and have a wonderful time.

If you're not afraid of being outed, go, Launa. If you're a closet CD like me, don't.

I noodled this same dilema after receiving an invite to our Pride Parade here in Long Beach, Cal. last year. Yes, it would have been a ball being on the float with other T's. (We don't usually call ourselves Queens here). But, I'm NOT ready to be outed and declined!
