    Nothing Big To Report

This is nothing new for me, but thought I would post this, in hopes it might help calm the nerves of some members here.

I know many crossdressers live in fear of being found out, but it may be better than you think. Just yesterday I had an IT guy do some work on my computer. He was jumping around, looking at different documents and clicked on my pictures. You guessed it. The first picture that came up was one of me, that you see on my Avatar. I waited for the question..."is that you"? However, it never came. I dodged a bullet there. The point of this, as I found out, we look so different dressed most people would never guess who they are looking at. As the song says...don't worry, be happy, as the odds of being found out is very low.

I'd have fell over dead probably. I look way too much like myself even dressed. I think but maybe not with full makeup.

I am facing a similar situation this week. I hope it is not an reveal that I don't want or need. But if it happens I hope it turns out as well for me as yours did. This is just one of the issues we have to deal with for using Computers.

I just had an experience today that verifies that people see what they expect to see. I was having coffee and a bagel with a friend of mine and two people whom I know very well came in to the " store". Not only that, they sat at a table right next to me. The woman glanced at me just as any woman would glance at another woman and we each gave a quick little smile. There was absolutely no sign of recognition or that I was not a GW.

A few years ago, before I became public, my computer needed repair. A friend who didn't know about me recommended a repair guy. Since the repair guy knew several people in my social circle I was a bit concerned about photos he might see on my computer. Without being specific I reminded him that the ethics of his profession were similar to those of a doctor-patient relationship and he agreed.

When I went to pick up my computer the cute little tech guy very hesitantly said, "Uh, um, may I ask you something?"

"Sure," I said, figuring he'd seen some pictures, "You can ask me anything."

"Well, um, er," he was twisting in the wind, "It is kinda personal."

"Really, no problem," I said, "You can feel free to ask me anything."

"Well, (gulp), er, um, I don't know how to say this ... But I was wondering, (gulp), um, er, I noticed that you wear hearing aids and my mother needs some, can you tell me how much they cost?"

    Hugs,
    Persephone.

Yeah I think most people just don't really care, things have changed for people that they just have their own things to do and worry about. I love going out and still fear it but mostly I just enjoy it

Amy, Why would you think the IT guy would ask a question on the pic? What he sees on your computer is none of his business--that is, unless something is clearly illegal. As a professional, he should just do his job.

That is very similar to my Day of Firsts yesterday... If I was "found out" absolutely no indication was given despite numerous (and I mean a whole metric butt tonne) opportunities for questions, comments, or snide remarks. Maybe it was luck, maybe it was Maybelline...

Confidence! It is the key to the universe. If you act like you belong there, people assume you do. If you give no indication that there is an issue with something (like a photo that in all honesty only looks slightly similar to you, they'll assume it is a female relative. If you believe it, you can receive it. You can sell anything if you truly want to buy it yourself.

A better artist can look at an old woman and see the pretty girl that she used to be. But a [master] artist [...] can look at an old woman, portray her exactly as she is...and force the viewer to see the pretty girl she used to be...and more than that, he can make anyone [...] see that this lovely young girl is still alive, not old and ugly at all, but simply prisoned inside her ruined body. [...] Look at her, [... growing] old doesn't matter to you and me; we were never meant to be admired - but it does to them.” ― Robert A. Heinlein, Stranger in a Strange Land

I have seen Amy en homme and there is no way that lovely lady in the avatar could ever be confused with the en homme. Sorry, Amy just could not behave myself. BTW, keeping pictures on a thumb drive is much safer.

If he had asked, you could have confirmed his suspicions and then offered to send him a copy.

Seeing as I am the IT guy, no chance of that happening here.....much!

I minimised a web site I was doing for my builder, only for the laptop background of me as a witch with "A member of TransPALS" in large text to go on display. He never said a word. Too easy to out ourselves sometimes. I wouldn't care ordinarily, but he knows many people that work with my wife.

Jodi, the IT guy is my neighbor and good friend. We were in my house, with me beside him when the picture flashed up. Out of surprise, seeing the picture, I thought I have some "splaing to do". He did stop for a moment and look at the picture.....must have been my haunting beauty that caught his eye. Laura, the HAUNTING comment was for you.

I had moved the Avatar picture to my PC, because I used it on another site I joined and failed to remove it. It is hard to fly under the radar all the time, pun intended Laura.

Beverley, actually, I do look like my older sister when dressed, so I can use that excuse from now on. Thanks !

I'm sure an IT guy sees a lot on computers. Even if he knows what he is seeing, I'm sure he just makes a mental note. The only thing that they are obligated to report is child porn. Every so often there is a bust because an IT repair guy findings illegal images.

Now let's think of a hypothetical non-crossdressing guy who happens to have some pictures of relatives on his computer. Maybe one of his sister ... one from a couple of decades ago of his mother. And let's say the IT guy comes to do some work on his computer. And let's say that in the course of that work, one of those pictures pops up. And let's say that the IT guy notices the family resemblance. What is the chance that the IT guy is going to think, on the basis of that picture, that the hypothetical guy is a crossdresser?

As a crossdresser, I certainly was prone to fears about who might notice something or figure something out or suspect something, but I think, Amy Lynn, that maybe you are, like me, subject to a little CD-paranoia now and then. You're right: don't worry, be happy.
