transgender day of visibility is march 31

just fyi on this . transgender day of visibility is this coming thursday 3/31/16.

Its an excuse to get dressed and venture out if you can :O)

I don't know much about this new "holiday" just that it is only a few years old , and that it is supposed to be an upbeat response to the more somber " tg day of remembrance ".

Change in the bigger culture happens one person at a time .

I have to say TG Visibility Day is something we all need to participate in, even it is just doing something small like dressing up or wearing your trans colors, just something to show we are real people in society.

The TDOR events make me so sad, they are necessary but so hard to deal with.

So definitively this T-Vis Day is a bright spot for us all.

I celebrate that day every weekend and for three days in a row now and in the evenings. The thing is that when we are out we want to blend and not be "seen", so kind of a conundrum.

It may of course be a bit disturbing to sense that one is really not so firmly anchored to the gender one was born into.

I think that this a good idea. Just about every day is a day of visibility for me, but I will make a point of being visible on the 31st.

I will try my best to participate in my first T-Day of Visibility. Living on a military bae can be nerve racking though sometimes.

While participating also take a few moments to remember our transgender family and friends who are no longer with us. To me it is kind of ironic that Transgender Day of Visibility would fall on what would have been Christina's (Christinac here on the forum) 47th birthday, so to me it was also be in effect a Transgender Day of Remembrance.

Great thoughts about meaning and purpose of it all Cristy, I will be dressing tomorrow to celebrate the TDOV date but will also will be remembering those who have had their lives cut short by trans-phobia and violent acts that fall into the TDOR event date.

If you want change you have to participate, just saying.....and that means all of us that fall under the big umbrella along the spectrum

    * TDOV- Transgender Day of Visibility
    **TDOR- Transgender Day of Remembrance

An excuse to who? No average person is going to believe that a normal straight person just decided to dress up in drag one day just to help raise the general public's consciousness about transgender people. It will only have the same effect as going out on Halloween dressed to the nines; it won't fool anyone.

There's an addendum at post # 82 on that thread, too. It's about a ten minute read.
Why don't we understand our desire to dress, behave and feel like a girl? Because from childhood, boys are told that the worst possible thing we can be, is a sissy. This feeling is so ingrained into our psyche, that we will suppress any thoughts that connect us to being or wanting to be feminine, even to the point of creating separate personalities to assign those female feelings into.

OMG what a cruel way to put it SM and I'm sad you feel that way

I think you missed the point here its not asking you closet girls to come out or anything.
If you are trans show it and show the ones you see out your support if you aren't dressed.
I'll be out just like everyday and hope I see plenty more like me out and about.

I'm not sure I even know how to do this anymore. I pass, so I'm not very visible, even when I want to be. I guess I can wear a button or something. That's never worked out all that well for me. I have some nice "bi pride" flag based jewelry. I wear it all the time. Nobody knows what it is. Maybe people who aren't trans will recognize the trans pride flag? :/

People who don't want to come out of the closet could just wear a "trans ally" button, I guess. Allies need visibility too. Seriously.

Got out a day early, I guess. Or outed, by my own hand *grins*. I was playing with the dog on our lakefront property when a neighbor came by in his rowboat. I was wearing leggings and a pink t-shirt, and there was really no way to get out of a conversation. We'll see if there are any repercussions in the neighborhood.

I guess u can pass, Allisa. But, I and many others can't. So, speak for yourself. I am at DLV and there r plenty of dressers here that never dress to blend. They expect and want to be noticed. I figure since I can't pass I mite as well look good!

Todays events include dinner at a restaurant and dancing at Paris casino. But, there r about 150 of us in Vegas and we r scattered all over the place! So, were doing our part. But, I doubt any vanillas will know this is TVD!
U can't keep doing the same things over and over and expect to enjoy life to the max. When u try new things, even if they r out of your comfort zone, u may experience new excitement and growth that u never expected.

Challenge yourself and pursue your passions! When your life clock runs out, you'll have few or NO REGRETS!

I went out today, it seems to get easier every time I go, I know a few people noticed me - an older couple walking the mall crossed over to get a closer look, I just smiled and kept on walking!

I didn't do anything half as cool as ChristinaK -- I just got my nails done and went out shopping, but I don't think anyone had to guess I was TG.

The last night that I hung out with one of the groups back in NYS before I moved, I wore a little lapel pin flag in the Trans colors. Someone who is in the process transitioning asked me what the colors meant!?!?!? That was a Buzzkill...

I was out and about yesterday. But then again I am out and about almost every day. Not sure what one is supposed to do on a Trans Visibility Day to identify as Trans. I have been in stealth mode for 40 years. I never even heard of all this new Trans stuff until last year. Thinking about going to the Trans Pride Day stuff this year.

Went to a restaurant for early dinner, then clothes jewelry shopping at mall.

Hello there I was browsing some forums here being new and I noticed your posts and then your location. I am in Seattle , new to both the state and the site and just wanted to say hi. I admire you going out for a drink , I would like to take your example and do the same , soon I hope. I am working on my makeup and finishing touches as far as being comfortable enough with my appearance to do so. Do you get nervous? I have been out a couple of times for short periods of time and I get soooo nervous....usually for no reason but nevertheless I do sigh. Redmond is where Microsoft is, correct? How are you treated , are they accepting there generally? Best Regards, Sara
