Well Darlin', as a southern girl, I tend to present myself as "girl" (regardless of age).. If I must be formal, I would say I'm a "southern lady". But I don't mind if a gentleman refers to me as "gal" as in, "She's a hell of a gal".Originally Posted by Angela Marie
Now that I live in a border state, I tend to get myself in trouble now and then because my southern influence automatically causes me to refer to women as "gal" or "darlin'" - it's just an innocent term of endearment but it sometimes causes these liberated yankee females to bristle!
You can dress me up but you can't take me out...at least not yet.
I think I prefer young woman, girl sounds a bit too young for me, but if you look at my picctures, I see a young woman looking back!!
A girl ! It will make me feel my age.
Dear Angela, I think the persons age might influence the name.
love.
My Mother wanted a daughter.....i am her.
I want to be a woman- That's "W-O-M-A-N". (But, I won't say it again, LOL.)
Mostly a girl, sometimes a woman but I do like to fantasize that I am a girl and someone will make me a woman.
I always think of myself as a girl, I guess it's because I started dressing so young.
[i am a woman ]and i love to be called as such love phylisanne [/B]
At first thought, at my age, I'd prefer girl just to make me feel good. But then in guy mode at the same age wouldn't want to be called boy. So decided woman is best.

My initial response is woman, but the idea of girl is rather fascinating.Originally Posted by Angela Marie
Here in a semi-rural part of Maryland it's practically customary for women to call each other - and sometimes even to address men with whom they're only casually acquainted as - "dear", "darlin" and "hon". The men don't refer to women that way in public. I once nearly burst out laughing when a woman working at a deli counter used all three of those terms in one sentence while chatting across the counter with a female friend of hers.Originally Posted by carson
I get a nice little CD rush when they address me (in drab) that way
Men here sometimes refer to a woman, in the third person, as a "gal", or a group of women as "the gals" or "you gals", often in a complimentary way, and women here don't take offense to the term.
"Chick" and "babe" are definitely out

Whether in the boy or girl mode, I don't want any form of title that indicates "senior" status. Examples being Mr., Mrs., Sir, or even M'am. I would prefer just my name, either first or last, male or femme. This has less to do with being reminded of my age than it does self perception. Regardless of how long I live I'll never think of myself as a senior citizen. I've always related to that saying "Mr. xxxxx was my dad".

`Who are YOU?' said the Caterpillar. Alice replied, rather shyly, `I--I hardly know, sir, just at present-- at least I know who I WAS when I got up this morning, but I think I must have been changed several times since then.'
As with most of these questions
It really depends on the context in which it is used,
e.g. you might have someone reply to you post saying "go girl"
or "you really are a beautiful woman"
Or maybe "your one terrific lady^
Im sure most of us dont really worry to much as long as the attached comment is complimentary
Oh and I once heard it quoted
"Being a Woman is knowing when not to be a Lady"
