Coming out to new primary doctor

I switched my primary care doctor from a man to a woman doctor. The man just seemed to be coasting and not doing a lot of doctoring, so "I fired him".

I had my first appointment a couple of months ago. I decided going in that I would be open with my CD/TG status if I felt comfortable. First I was seen by two female interns and a student. I felt very comfortable with all of them. Then I got the question, "Do you have something that you do that makes you really happy?" The question is to make sure that you have some activities so you don't get (clinical) depression.

I couldn't have gotten a better invitation. I said, "I have kind of a hobby", and I brought some of the pics on my phone. At least once I got the comment, "Is that really you?" Then when the head doctor came in, I showed her a few pics. We walked out of the exam room talking, and a couple of GG nurses looked like they felt left out. So I shared with them.

Today, I saw two different GG Doctors and shared my favorite, most feminine pic with them. That pic is of me in a long red sequined evening gown. I've often gotten the impression if I put that gown up for bidding, I would have a lot of bidders.

Whenever I share some pics in a doctor's office, I always remind them that these pics are protected from HIPPA (US Medical Privacy Act).

This not the first doctor who "has been read into the program" so to speak.

Hi, I'm Steffi and I'm a crossdresser... And I accept and celebrate both sides of me. Or, maybe I'm gender fluid.

    Good for you!

Last summer when my GP asked if there was anything else, I blurted out that I wanted to be a girl. He was pretty surprised and asked if I was kidding, then asked what pronouns I wanted and then took my blood pressure.

I didn’t want anything to happen, I just blurted, but it was nice to say it out loud to someone who should be following HIPPA rules.

The main reason I don't tell my primary doc is I want her to ask about my health NOT about Sherry's latest adventures, Steffi! I did mention I dressed to one specialist but there was a reason for that.

But then again, I'm a CD not a trans. I would never come in dressed or show them photos of Sherry!

I would be more likely to tell the gal that waxes me than my doctor, because my desired fashion really has nothing to do with my health, but it is relevant to my desire to not look like sasquatch.

My previous primary doctor left the clinic so I had.a new doctor. As my usual practice, I.was wearing a dress, and I have hair down to my shoulders and a bust. But I have my masculine name and a deep masculine voice.
Guess what? I was yet another patient and there was no reaction with my appearance at all. Doctors have seen it all.

About 2 years ago when I changed VA regions (moved to a new area), I told my primary care doctor I would be interested to see if the VA had counseling services available for my wife and myself as I like to CD. I was referred to their LGBTQ+ program. I also have to visit with a psychiatrist on a regular basis as I take a controlled substance for as health issue. She asked if I had a preferred name. I told her my male name was fine. However, since my CDing is part of my health file with the VA, I'm always underdressed with panties. If I'm wearing slacks, I'm also wearing thigh highs. And in cooler weather if I'm wearing a light coat, I'm also wearing a bralette with A/B inserts. When I've had a nurse/doc/tech listed to my heart with a stethoscope, none has ever commented about my bralette which cannot be missed by their hands. I don't expect comments. If ever one of them commented, I'd probably say something along the lines of "Yes, I'm a cross dresser and really wearing women's clothing - especially lace panties and bras." I've got nothing to hide from them.

I'm finding the more feminine side of me...and I ❤️ this adventure.

You're missing the opportunity for a great conversation with a GG and some positive affirmation. But, continue doing as you do. I'm trying to normalize my CD/TG.

Also, I've recieved this question (in one form or another) from several doctors, "Do you have something to do that you really enjoy?" It might not reflect physical health but it is a key indicator of mental health, specifically clinical depression.

GG Doc: Do you wear heaes?
Me: I used to but not so much any more. I have a balance problem. I'm wearing (red) flats in the pic.
GG Doc: I don't wear heels.
Me: I saw some heels that I liked. They're low block heels. I like them better than kitten heels.
GG Doc: I didn't even know that they were called kitten heels.
Me: When was the last time you had a discussion with a guy about heels who know the difference between block heels and kitten heels.
    GG Doc: [smile]

It was just so normal. It was a great (and short) conversation that didn't detract from assessing my medical issue.

I am glad you felt comfortable coming out to your new health care provider and staff. Its so nice to be able to share this part of ourselves. BTW, I made the switch to a female PCP about 20 years ago. I have always felt more comfortable with female doctors and nurse practitioners.
