There's a fairly well accepted personality test called the Big Five Personality Test. The five categories that are rated are Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness and Neuroticism. I scored very high in Openness which leads me to think in more complex, abstract ways. My wife would score low in Openness and she tends to think in concrete, traditional ways. I'm sure that's a major simplification of the reasons that she finds my tastes bothersome, but I do think it does give a bit of insight. I'm thinking the accepting SO would be high in openness.
