It really was not hard for me the first time out dressed. My wife however was a total wreck. I had the most wonderful time though.

Heart pounding, clamy hands and kept holding my breath the first time I went outside in the daylight completely dressed. Every sound, every person you saw, you just knew that they knew. Then all of a sudden you notice that no one is paying any attention to you and the light bulb goes off over your head. "I'M DOING IT" Then you start to relax and next thing you know, your out again and again and again.

The first time Karren went out in public....scared to death. Went to the door 20 times and turned around each time. Then finally just kept going and never looked back. Almost passed out with excitement!! Felt wonderful!! And still does! Go for it!! You'll wonder why you didn't do it sooner!!

I spend many hours standing at the door of the apartment debating if I should go out. Eventually, I got the courage..... but one day I needed to attend a CD meeting and Had to go dressed so off I went....Once you out in the crowds a few times you find it is easy and natural.

Had a bit of it tonight

Once you get used to doing it, Brianda, you will really enjoy it. So I have to tell you tonight's tale:

Well I was probably trying something crazy but I need a hair cut (male hair). I felt like dressing and maybe being over the top. So I figured that I would visit the salon at the local casino and see if they would do it. I didn't feel comfortable going to the salon with male hair with my open toed shoes, polished toe nails, shiny dark purple blouse and dark slacks. So I put on a wig, a little makeup to cover the beard shadow and a little mascara and took off. I had to go through the casino to get to the hotel tower with the spa. So I just held my breath and walked through all of the people. The only problem was the cigarette smoke ( or depending upon your point of view). When I got to the spa, I was going to chicken out but after I took off the wig, someone startled me so I went in. They were full and couldn't take me. So I reversed process and left.

So once you get it going out down pat, you can come up with something else that boosts the heart rate.

    Hugs,
    Leann

Enjoy who you are but stay safe.

I was very excited.....it was so thrilling the first time I went out. I was having too much fun to be scared. Though I did get a bit nervous when I saw a couple of guys hanging out outside the mall I was going to....like I am sure a GG would.
If you can't wear heels, what's the sense of dressing?......

I put on stockings, a dress, high heels, and a woman's hat and walked out the front door. I then walked down the sidewalk and talked with some people at the bus stop. After that, I went into my backyard and into the house. I had a lot of fun doing that. No nervousness at all. I was also 4 years old at the time....

    first time out

My first time in public was at a Tri-ess meeting in Atlanta in Nov 04. Phoebe Resse (see the comment above) was there! I checked in the hotel, scared as heck in male mode). I brought a bottle of wine and took a few glasses to settle me down. I shaved and got dresssed. I had talked to another CD, Heather, who needed my hotel room to dress. I answered the door when she knocked. Nervious. She told me I looked fine and would be okay. I left Heather alone to dress walked to the suite to meet the other Tri-ess members. I was scared but excited as well. Well, the night went fine. We went to a resteraunt in Atlanta. No one stood up and shouted insults at us!The other CDers were nice to me and made me feel comfortable. I passed a few people in the hotel hallway who did not give me a second look. A few of us went to the hotel bar afterwards. I noticed a few people give us a few looks, but no one said a thing. I returned to my room proud of what I did. Thanks to the girls in Atlanta Tri-ess. I wish I could get out more but that is the main drawback to the wife not knowing.

    Brianda,

The first 20 times I went out enfemme were all way after dark. Once was with a GG partner. It was not hard, at least not until some guys started stalking us!

Daytime is a whole different world. It is much harder. I would try to find remote rural locations to change, and stay in my car the first 20 times. Eventually, I ventured out of a motel room en femme to my waiting car for the drive home. One day I got the courage to try a drive up window for lunch. That was hard. I lived. Only one other time did I actually venture into an isolated factory shoe outlet, had to respond "hello" to the clerk in my best girly voice, and then found no shoes at all in the tall sizes they had advertised on their billboard.

I will also say that it was all worth all the effort. I no longer pass that well, certainly not dressed the way I would want to dress, but I will always have fond memories.
    Hugs,

    Bernice

    Drive up windows

    Bernice,

You bring up a good point about drive ups. They are a great way to test the fem voice and then shortly there after the look. I find it hard to have a fem voice that has any volume. So going to the squauk box helps you calibrate the volume. If you have done well with the pitch, etc, then you won't get a reaction when you pay (if the line is long, the experiment is probably invalid.) Then you have a short encounter with a stranger (or two) to see if you pass. If you do, great. If you don't then you are in the car and out of there very quickly with the milk shake to comfort your brused ego

I have only gone out dressed at night. I was either driving, then getting gas so I would get out of the car, or I walked in the neighbor hood or on the beach at night. I don't feel that I have the nerve to go out during the day. I would be a nervous wreck. I applaud all of you who do.. I think have a CD friend so that the two of you would go out together would be so great as a transition to going it alone. I would love to meet a fellow crossdresser so we could help each other.

The first time, it's no worse than having to give a speech to an audience of 500 and having it be the first time you ever spoke in front of an audience. With the exception that you have a chance of being completly laughed off stage, I was... it was humiliating to me. I am surprised that ever got up the nerve to attempt it a second time. I learned what not to do the first time and that helped make the second trip a success.

I did it in little steps. I'd go to the door and open it and just stand there til a car came down the road. Then it was step two i'd go out onto the porch and stand there til a car came. after that I would go out on the porch and lock the door. To make it harder to run inside when a car came. Well then it was all or nothing. Got dressed went out locked the door went down the steps and got in the truck and off i went. I was still scared to death i'd get caught. but it didn't happen so i got comfortable with going out dressed.

I've got mixed feelings about it to be honest. At home I go into the garden and feel very anxious because I know that whoever pops round the corner will recognise me for what I am and that terrifies me. On th other hand, when travelling, as I do, with my work, I dress up and walk out of hotels en femme and althought nervous, manage to walk across the car park into my car ( I try to time it when it's quiet), but once in the car I often drive back home, which takes 2 - 3 hours and really enjoy being me. I can't really explain it.

As nearly everyone else has said, I was also very nervous at first. Going out in broad daylight is indeed a challenge, but it is well worth the effort in the end. I personally could not speak in a feminine-sounding tone of voice if my life depended on it and talking used to make me quite uptight. Now, I don't care...I just go for it.

As an aside, here is a funny real life experience concerning a drive-thru: several years ago, I went to a McDonald's drive-thru while crossdressed. In those days, I was nervous about my appearance. I pulled up to the window, grabbed my purse from the passenger seat, unzipped it and took out my wallet. I looked up to hand the girl at the window my money and she looked at me and said "Got ya a Gucci, huh?" That was great.
