Would You Change Who You Are?

Let's have a little fun. If someone knocked at your door, and said, "You can change your sex, all paid for, and I need to have an answer in 5 seconds". Yes or NO, that's all. What would you say? It takes a little more than 5 seconds to read this, so you should know the answer.

Permanent, and obviously look totally femme? (i.e. no "passing" issues?)

    In a heartbeat.

NO, too many responsibilities. I couldn't give up my family and marraige. This reminds me of the movie BIG with Tom Hanks. He became a grown man overnight after having this same type of wish granted. He couldn't go home, Mom didn't recognize him. Anyway....no.

    What about a maybe...

If I didn't have a daughter I would. When I was younger I couldn't wait to get older so I could change, then I had a kid. Wouldn't be fair to her.

    No children, yes I would.

Be able to change back and forth sure. Oh how I would love to take a pill and be like a GG for like 48 hours or so.

There's a book by a mathematician named Rudy Rucker; it's called MASTER OF SPACETIME, I think. In it, the main character finds a way to change back and forth from male to female. There is, as I recall, a lag in the timing so that he can't do this instantaneously. In the story, of course, that creates some of the complications. It's an interesting book that touches on spacetime theory, quantum mechanics, gender issues, and the general human condition. It's fanciful, yes, but it's quite fascinating to think about having the capability to change fully, no passing issues, from male to female. If I could do that--as long as we're fantasizing--I would want to do it immediately. But as with the comment that referenced the Tom Hanks movie "Big," it's not just about realistically appearing to be a woman. There are all kinds of subtle and not so subtle qualities and circumstances that go with womanhood and femininity. Hanks's character grows big, but he doesn't grow mature. That's a BIG difference.
If I didn't have the power to change back, my answer would be no.
    warmly, Linnea

Yes, in a New York minute!

Now the question asks, "Would you change who you are?" I don't want to change who I am. I am already who I am. I am just in the wrong body. So would I change my sex? Absolutely. It wouldn't take me all of 5 seconds (although that seems pretty short to even comprehend the question). Would I want to change into a different person? No. But to finally have the right body. Yes! No question at all.
