"Criminal profiling"

I told a friend earlier this year about my dressing and it turned out to be kind of a mistake. I posted the story in a thread when it happened if you want to more about that. Basically, she was not very accepting or understanding and I'm not entirely sure why I told her in the first place. Anyway, she told me about a chapter in her criminal profiling class at college that is dedicted to crossdressers and crossdressing.
I have to say, I was a little bothered this. Especially because she was definitely siding with what was said in class but also because apparently there is a criminal profile on people like us. What is that? Is there also a chapter on frat boys or athletes? I'm not one to complain about things like this but my friend is definitely trusting a book over me on this. But she's just opposed to the whole CD thing in general. Anyway, I just wanted to get that out.

I have taken these classes. They touch on all criminal behaviors.

It is not all that uncommon for a robber to be crossdressed during a robbery. It is a great way to hide your identity, better than a false beard and quick to change, just pull off the skirt and have male clothes underneath.

I am sure she only has looked into that aspect of CD'ing.

She just needed to read more, it turns out when you have gone through all the profiles that everyone is a suspect. As the Los Angeles Police say "arrest them first, we will figure out what they are guilty of later."

Wow! That would certainly put a damper on my day. You mentioned that she was taking a profiling class. Exactly what type of 'college' was she going to, anyway?

But, to the point, I would imagine that any type of behavior that alters one's appearance, especially one as dramatically as CD'ing, could be considered an obstruction, or threat to public safety. Even more so, in the post-9/11 era.
I'm sure that crossdressing, and many other activities that didn't get so much as a second glance before, can now be considered a breach of 'national security'. And, wow, once 'they' have this mandate, 'they' sure seem to take right off with it.

I certainly hope that the extent of the profile was moderated with the odds against a weapon, or bomb being carried in a Gucci handbag.

With all of the debates about the compromising of an individual's right to privacy/freedom/etc, in the face of a greater public need for security, this would seem to be another question of how far is too far. It would be interesting to hear the perspective of some of our UK friends, whom, in many ways have been dealing with this far longer than us in the States.

And, let your friend know that it would be very difficult to flee the scene of a crime in four-inch heels, and a tight, slit skirt.

Anytime you are "disguised" it will cause a certain amount of discomfort to some "public servants".

It will be better (less discomfort) when we have our ID chips inserted! Then we can be satelite tracked to and from the mall!

Seriously, I think those of you south of the 49th have a lot of personal security and privacy issues to deal with including the 4th amendment which is the largest offender in my ignorant view.

Doesnt this profiling just fall into the hysteria of there's a red under every bed? If we look at the McCarthy era and compare it to today, the parallels are uncanny.

Dangerous stuff when it is used to trample human rights. But what do I know? I'm a Canuck and probably on every list Homeland Security has due to my well-known and documented, radical, largely centrist, but slightly left of center views.

So, its perfect for profiling. We get a list (with everyone on it) and when we stop them for DWB/DWM (Driving while Black or Mexican) or whatever its not because of being RACIST, nah, its the profile. Yeesh, how easy is that.

No offense to any frat boys or student athletes here, but you have to admit, we see frat boys and athletes in the news breaking the law a lot more then we see crossdressers doing it. There seems to be no end to the rape cases and hazing incidents. Ease up on the booze boys...

And this friend of mine really isn't that close of a friend. I've known her for years but she's becoming more of an internet chat buddy then a friend. I'm not entirely sure why I turned to her when I felt the need to talk about it, I just felt the need to do it and she was online and now it is what it is. Live and learn I guess.

Crimnal Profiling everyone to me seems to me to be a waste of time, except possibly in major serial crimnals, such as rapists and killers.
