    The Drag Queen Look

    Hi Everyone,
I myself like dressing up as a drag queen and would like to gage this community's like and dislike of the look. If I had to say the DQ's I like the look of, it would be Lady Bunny at http://www.ladybunny.net/loader_flash.html, Bella Berserk at http://www.bellaberserk.com/ and Jackie Beat at http://www.jackiebeatrules.com/home.html. I really do not like the extreme look of a DQ such as Nuclia Waste at http://www.nucliawaste.com/. However, I realize this look is an integral part of her act.

I myself have an extreme like for brightly colored sequin gowns, big hair wigs and loud makeup.

I like the smoothness they achieve, but as far as wild colors I really don't like it. Nothing like being natural.

I'm not sure if I can pick one of those Rita. I don't dress like that but if it's your style then go for it and enjoy it.

I think they look fantastic and I love the catty humour. I did a few drag style photos once... You can get away with being truly exotic to a degree which is simply impossible to achieve in everyday life. I still regularly watch Wigstock and Priscilla on dvd which I find very funny.

I'm a natural "ham" and have performed in the past Rita but as myself and not another character I create. I originally wanted to do drag but feel better just being myself. I have a lot of friends who are DQ's though and I think it's cool.

I voted...because i too love the DQ look and love dressin over the top....as a gg well I can't dress like that normally, so it is fun to go out with our friends and dress a little loud and high hair and the false eyelashes! I love that look for fun! Even more exciting when I get asked if I am truly a guy or a gg! :-) getting confused for a DQ makes my night!!

This pic is from Pride 2005

I did the DQ look at last years Pride as well, but I was not thrilled with my pics

It's ok if you like to look like a clown. Personally I don't.

the Drag Queen look is definitely not something that I like. Of course, those who like it ought to enjoy it to their heart's content.

During my Warhol period I did some DQ images. This is one of them... I still think it is a powerful image. The original was done in the very early days of digital imaging and took three weeks to complete. This little thumbnail doesn't really do it justice.

And even more scary they change colour depending on my mood... True, true, true. Brown is sexy Lisa... Green is average Lisa... and blue is 'She's gonna blow Cap'n!' Lisa. Oh yes, as my best friend told me once... 'When your eyes are blue, it's time to be out of the room'

Wish I was extravert enough to be a DQ.
I find the clothes a little extreme for my tastes, but otherwise like the look and love the approach to life they have.. don’t make any pretence as to what they are, and go right ahead and do it.

I went to a drag show in Portland, Oregon (at Darcelle's-- heard of it?) with my mom. I was fascinated by the pass-ability of some of the girls, particularly the Asians, African-Americans and Latinos (or Latinas, rather).

What I didn't like was the way they made femininity seem like a bitchy, affected thing. I know this is over-the-top fun, all in the good spirit of camp. But what's a nice, quiet, sweet, brainy girl to do? Still, some of them were drop-dead gorgeous and I had the strange sensation of being . . . jealous? No, never!

One thing I don't go in for is the stockings in open-toed stilettos look. Pumps with stockings-- fine. But the nylons' lines across the bunched-together toes obscuring nails painted red-- I haven't seen one model in Victoria's Secret with that. Particularly with glass shoes, which look to be two sizes too small. At Zappos or Nordstrom you can buy nice heels up to size 13, maybe even 14, in wide, double wide, and half sizes. Why totter around in what appear to be cheap shoes, unless you're about to do a porn scene (which is totally cool, I understand)?

I recently visited a scene with lots of DQs.
Whatever they look like, I love them.

They are not ALL bitchy, some are absolutely delightful and luminous !

I am scared of drunk and bitchy DQ's. Their Out-There Attitude when entirely uninhibited can wreck an entire event.

i think you have misunderstood the culture then. they make no pretence at femininity... it is effeminacy.
you shouldnt feel in any way offended by it as it has no reflection on your feminine feelings, or anything to do with what it is to be a woman
