Should cross-dressing be acceptable in all situations?

Hey, I'm just interested in all your views on this - should cross-dressing be acceptable in all situations? For example, should it be acceptable for President Bush to turn up at a press conference in feminine attire? Should cross-dressing only be acceptable in some situations, and not others? Look forward to hearing your opinions!

Ideally it would be acceptable in almost all situations that come to mind. Practically, given prevailing attitudes, one must take into account various personal, family, career, etc., etc., considerations.

As regards the Presidency, the mental picture of George Bush in feminine attire at a press conference is strangely compelling. Don't you just know that the media would try to make something of it?

It would be wonderful if we were all acepted as we are without prejudace.I do'nt think I will ever see it in my life. That is what hope and dreams are for, someday things will change.
The picture of shrub in a dress had me almost rolling on the floor. Imagine some of the others, Rumsfeld, Cheney my God the list could go on for ever.

Ideally, yes. Practically, I don't see it happening. Nice dream, though.

    LilyFlower,

We should all be allowed to wear what ever we want so long as it is in good taste. Yes, Bush should be allow to attend a press conference wearing skirt, just as Sen. Clinton can show up at a press conference wearing pants.

I always say if a GG can have the option to wear skirts or pants and the option to wear make-up or not. Then us non-GG should have the same choice.

I just want to have the option of doing my nails or not and have all the other options that GG’s have every day

I vote yes. However, I wouldn't want to see W in a dress. It would spoil disgust for him.

As everyone is entitlrd to theirown opinion,I beleive there is a time and place for everything to happen. In the general sense,I would say yes,it should be allowed but under the right circumstances, you wouldn't want to cause any unneccasary pain or harm if you were in the wrong place. The problem is everyone has thier own set of beleifs and they don't all accept things in life.As i said, everyone has their own opinion.

Right on the point Richelle. Senator Clinton could appear in public dressed fully in male attire and it would not cause the slightest comment. Of course, I also realize, from the great pictures of George W., that the President appearing at a press conference fully dressed WILL take a little getting used to.

An interesting first post, LilyFlower....a valid, serious topic, framed humorously and eliciting some nice responses.

I tried to think about the question of what situations would NOT be acceptable for crossdressing even in a fully tolerant and accepting society. Misty's funny post about the surgeon and dentist in heels is the area that comes to mind...that is, people who wear uniforms, or special attire for professional, utilitarian, or safety reasons. This would include medical personnel, firemen, police, military, etc. Both genders are fully represented in these professions and wear identical clothing when on duty. (At least outer clothing.)

    ROFLMAO....

OMG....I just realized that a couple of versions of George W. as a more senior lady ("Georgette W." and "Lady Bush") are fairly (dare I say) attractive....(I could be wrong on this).

Gender Identity and Expression policies are making their ways into many companies HR policies these days. There are at least 43 companies listed at HRC that allow this, in given circumstances.

It should be allowed regardless, if that's who you are and that's how you wish to present yourself. As long as the attire is appropriate for the occasion i.e. work attire at work, not too much jewellery if you're a construction worker using heavy machinery!
My first book, The Shipping Mistake, has been published. It's about all my pre-op years, since I was a child.

It is available for purchase at the following links online:

Amazon, Barnes and Noble and Lulu (the printer)

You can download a free preview by following any of the book links at Lulu

Yes, I think that George W. should really consider an alternate lifestyle.

But I hope that John Kerry doesn't even give it a thought.

With this level of agreement, I have gone and buried my hatchet...although in a shallow hole for now, just in case I have to retrieve it

    Best wishes,

    Danny
