six weeks of boydom / That's my boy

But it's worth it. My 15 y/o son lands in an hour to stay with me in the summer. This summer for only 6 weeks. He doesn't know and I don't plan on telling him. I think I have a good strategy - this year: educate and expose, next: share. But I have no idea how to do that first part without being obvious.... I have a gay couple that I'm friends with so dinner with them for sure. I decided not to pull back too far from who I am. I did box up and store all the really girly stuff but body hair, baggy clothes and boxer shorts for six weeks? Eck! I don't think so. Besides, I don't think I could do it if I tried. Me in boy mode is pathetic - see what I mean.

that is a long time - perhaps some less obvious femininity - I often wear girlie jeans, manbag, nail varnish, shaved legs, panties - pretty much en femme and noone really notices especially my wife! Depends how switched on a 15 year old he is!

It's amazing how much we can change in a few months. Since I last saw him in November, my 15 y/o son has gone from alternative/grunge to pure hemp weave hippy. And dad has gone from overkill frat boy to ______ (tbd).

In the car from the airport I mentioned that his while his mom had told me about the hippy thing and I saw a picture or two on his myspace, I had no idea he was so serious about it. He turns to me and says, "Well dad, I always wanted to dress like this but I was afraid the other kids would tease me. So I started testing it out with a tie dye tee shirt and, yeah, I got teased. But I discovered this whole group of other kids who like the same stuff. Now I feel good about how I look."

What could I say. "Yeah, I know exactly what you mean."

"Is that the explanation behind your metrosexual makeover. You should be careful or people might think you're gay."

This from the boy dressed like a sherpa. I just smiled.

Hey ..... Its not so bad!! I'm personally working on week 7 or 8 and the summer has just begun!! Don't hear me complaining do ya?? Lol

Anyway... Do it for your son!! Well worth the effort and investment in my opinion!! Might be the summer he will remember most... Hanging with his Dad... Having a great time.. Growing up... Just what ever you do don't get selfish.... Its not just you ya know??

Yesterday my son and I spent most of the day running around tagging cell phone towers with his GPS unit.. He volunteers for the USGS updating their topographic maps... Had a blast.. Except for the 3 ticks I found crawling on me last night.. Hehe

So suck it up and act like a man... Your son will love you for it!!
