    Taking Estogen

Since I have been full time 24/7 and I know that's what I want and I'm never going back down that other road....I have decided that I might as well start taking Estrogen to get the full benifits of being me. My questions to those of you who know of this....How much do I need to get the best results? Where exactly & how do you get it? Whats the aprox cost? I've about had all this constant hair all over my body faster than I can rip/epilate the little suckers out, will this stop or slow it to a once in a while thing rather than a every 2-3 day pain in the a**? Will my boobs actually become as I wish and what can I expect as I'm now a technical 44A (that sucks)? Will my voice actually become much more femme as I have tried a DVD I bough and can't get past the "Mickey Mouse" stage and my voice is soooo much a dead giveaway. Will it actually give me hip area mass and differert muscle tone? What about smothing out this 61 year old Arizona lizzard skin LOL? You get the idea...I really want first hand experiences, good or bad, but not really wanting to go to some medical type quack who has never taken it himself. Thanks Girls, I KNOW you'll come through for me as you always have so far

With respect, you really ought to be seeking proper medical advice, not relying on anecdotal or personal experience.

Your dismissal of doctors as "some medical type quack " is quite frankly demeaning.
It is rather simplistic to believe that a Doctor needs to have taken a medication before being qualified to administer it or discuss effectiveness and contraindications.

    Go to a specialist.

Taking hormones is a serious business and should never be done without medical supervision.

I realise I may sound harsh. But it is a serious busines and you seem to have discarded the one true place where you would get impartial and appropriate advice.

    I agree.

Everyone is different, and as such have medical conditions (known or unknown) which can be affected by hormones. Blod clotting is one such effect.

Plus the amount of testosterone in your system should be analyzed to determine how much estrogene will do you any good, and even then it is a best guess situation.

If you do this without medical supervision, you put your life at risk.

Please accept my apologies, I meant no foul here. IMHO, Although I've seen many cases of doctors who prescribe medicine for the sake of prescribing, even to the point of someone needing surgery because gall stones are not acid problems, some of the people I know are so messed up with prescribed pills combatting what other pills do, it's mind boggeling. I take two pills a day because I want to, a multi-vitamin and a over the counter nail/skin/hair pill. I'm 61 and don't go to any doctors. I have all my teeth except two molars which wore out from use because I again have people I know where the results and resulting costs were not what they should have been. One of those teeth I DID see a dentist as the middle wore out and it pained. After charging me like $400.00 for root canals and another couple hundred for some kind of temp filling that fell out a few days later, while I was preparing for the even higher cost of a crown, I decided none of my teeth were each worth that kind of money, I paid $25.00 to have that one jerked. What I am saying is I've not seen on a day to day basis where these people know as much as the person who has experienced the actual doing of something be it good or bad. I'm sorry if I have went about this the wrong way, but it's hard for me to try and fix something if it ain't broke, thus leading me to outsourcing this question I asked.
I'll concede to this idea though and see if I can ask around and try to find someone who can HIGHLY recommend a qualified doctor who might be able to help me. Thank You all...

Let me just say one thing. The doctors are the ones we trust and fear at the same time. Take moments to consider that just like there are good and bad people in the world so there is a doctor out there perfect for you. Just shop around until you find him.
I believe in what needs to come to us will come to us. All the time.

It's a practical decision we are talking about. A trained Endocrinologist can monitor what is going on inside your body. When you go on estrogen and androgen blockers you are playing a dangerous game. There are many complications, there can be serious side-effects.

For many TS Gurl's, they are willing to take the risk, preparing for SRS. But, ANYONE should take that risk, knowing what could happen and under a Physician's very careful guidance. In the medical trade it's called an "informed decision."

You go get those drugs off the street, start self-administration, do not have anyone trained to monitor your body's adaptation and condition. That's not dissimilar to taking a revolver, spinning the cylinder, sticking it to your head, and pulling the trigger. You could end up very sick...or very dead!

Sorry to be so rough, but I will always advise you against playing this kind of dangerous game. The "Medical Quack," that you spoke about certainly may not have taken Estrogen, but he or she probably has guided dozens or perhaps hundreds through the process, and has been trained to keep you healthy and alive.

    Peace and Love, Joanie

I understand completely the problems you cite about doctors (and dentists), but you really are letting the "horror stories" and the "finances" cloud your judgement on this! My late father had a horrible cardiologist, one who my mother and I, along with some great people from hospice had to "take to task" in dad's final weeks. That said, my father also had several wonderful, caring, knowledgeable physicians who helped greatly and humanely. I've worked closely with a number of medical professionals and you don't want to throw the baby out with the bath water! There is one local psychiatrist who turned from being a fantastic practioner of the mental health art, to a pill-pushing, run-em-through-like-cattle bufoon -- and the "bad" stories go on and on and on. As a lifetime conservative, I allign with the left regarding health care in the U.S. b/c the medical field in this country has and is continuing to drive the field of medicine through the roof. ALL of that said, again, there ARE many caring, highly competent doctors and dentists who KNOW what they are doing and ARE qualified AND compassionate, and CAN AND WILL help if you just bother to seek them out!!!

Saying that a doctor cannot prescribe without having taken a medication is specious at best, ludicrous at worst. A doctor needs to have had an infection to prescribe an antibiotic? Or have hypertension to write an Rx for HBP? Or have high blood sugar to write you a script for insulin? Or have had migraines to search out which medication will give you relief? I don't think so!!! The pharmacology and chemistry doctors have to take is by far the most intense part of their formal education, incorporating physiology, too, so that indications, contraindications, cns and other effects, reactions and intereactions with other meds, etc., etc., etc. are fully understood coming and going. Doctors have to ace so much of this before they ever get close to a prescription pad!!! And then, there is still the pharmacist's role in trying to help look for potential dangers, especially when a person has more than one doctor writing for them. (This why the government is, in part, regulating so much of this beyond belief, which is maddening, but there are far too many people using two, three, and four pharmacies and multiple doctors.) Also of importance is a layman's bent for treating the symptoms when you really need to treat the cause.

Taking "horor"mones (properly and safely) is NOT an inocuous thing!!!

There can be significant risks involved!!! And, many varibles enter into the proper taking of them!!! Your age, weight, general health (and specifically your cardiac health) have to be factored in -- and this is but the mere tip of the iceburg, so to speak!!! Yes -- you can find ways to take them without a doctor, but you will be playing with major fire if you do!!! If you really want to do this -- and assuming you want to enjoy the results -- do it right!!!!!!! Earnestly search for a doctor who knows what they are doing, then follow the regimine they establish for you as if your life depended on it -- which it might!!!

There are all kind of doctors, just as there are all kind of people in diferent professions. Yes, there are the semi-quacks out there but there are efficient excellent professionals too. If you arent happy with the one you see, change. Thats what second opinions are all about. But please dont waltz into a pill taking frenzy with no regards to the science. There are and will be side effects in the best of cases, so do you want to be a fantasy fullfulled DEAD cross dresser or a cautious HAPPY ALIVE working of her fantasies crossdresser?

I'm not an expert, but I do have transsexual friends and I have researched it somewhat myself, so my advice is please be careful. Taking any kind of drug is potentially harmful but taking large amounts of estrogen, progestrogen and anti-androgens, is fraught with danger even if your doctor is prescribing them to you. Your progress should be monitored carefully by a doctor to watch out for any problems.

Serious side effects include liver damage (if taken orally) thrombosis, heart attack, high cholesterol, stroke, cancer, and something called hyperkalemia which can cause excessive amounts of potassium levels in the blood which in turn may lead to kidney problems. There's also something called hyperprolactinemia which can cause blindness and hemorraging. But the biggest reported side effect is depressive mood swings. All not good.

BUT ... having said all that, if you really need them because you are transsexual and you simply just can't have the body you currently have, then I say go for it .... but under the care of a doctor who knows what he/she is doing.

    Hi Marsea,

Please don't play Russian Roulet with your health! If your going to do HRT,do it under the guidance of a doctor.

Thanks again all. I guess there is lots more to this than I thought. I have little to no experience with medicines or doctors or dentists or lawyers, so took a simplistic approach which won't work. I'll just be totally thankful I got as far as I have & enjoy my every day to the fullest as at least a part of the girl I've always wanted to be. Perhaps all the euphoria of the last 6 months or so has overwhelmed my little brain like a drug and made me feel like super women LOL When & if I win the lottery I'll continue down this avenue, but for now I'll let sleeping dogs lie. Sorry if I ticked anyone off..not my intentions Going to go & do my nightly game posts here LOL. Thanks again all.
