Having Friends Nearby

All,

I am wondering how many of you are able to meet with other girlfriends who you can share your love of cross dressing with as girlfriends. Share ideas, support each other, share thoughts and concerns and talk about everything girly? Have you found that it helps in terms of becoming more comfortable with cross dressing? Has it helped you to get better at it? Does it help you feel less lonely, more supported?

While I love to read everyone's posts and offering my thoughts when approriate and while I have gained a great deal of insight from this wonderful community, I also long to have some local girlfriends to meet, chat, share and relate with. (local for me is the kitchener, waterloo, guelph, cambridge Ontario area).

I have seen a post or two at this site saying how wonderful it is to find a friend or two that you can share this with. Hopefull I am not the only member of this community in my area. I would love to hear from other girls in the area.

Thanks

Melissa

Andrea, we're all as jealous as hell! Why couldn't it happen to me?

Melissa,
I'd love to meet other CDers, but while my wife is anti (I'm working on it), and I'd never be able to explain the time away. If things change, there are one or two in the UK, not too far away, who have expressed an interest to meet. Just to explore common interests, we're all straight, and I wouldn't want to meet if they weren't! Pity I'm much nearer to Cambridge, England than MA. Can't win them all!

Hi, ladies...

It seems that most of my posts are repeating what I've already said somewhere else on the forum... but... here goes again!!!

I, too, thought that I was the only CD in the whole western states until I found a local Transgender Support Group that was about 50 miles away, in Albuquerque, NM. They had an online listserve, similar to this forum, where I could see what other members were talking about and I could ask questions. It took me about a year to finally get up the courage to attend a meeting and, even then, I didn't go dressed. They told me that most members often came straight from work and didn't have time to change.

That meeting changed my life... completely.

Besides meeting other CDs, TSs and FtMs that I had known online... suddenly, I started to get emails from "local" gals that lived within a few miles. I'm talking, like, 15 others!!! It was amazing. I became really good friends with three of those and we often met at each others homes to have lunch or dinner and talk about our new outfits, shopping, gossip... and some "guy" stuff, too. I wasn't too comfortable going out dressed, myself, but I did often accompany one of them as her escort. It was so much fun!!!

I do have to say that some of those 15 that contacted me were into some of the fetish lifestyles that I wasn't interested in... but they dropped away rather quickly.

Unfortunately... two of them moved and the other became very busy with his family and a new career... and we all drifted apart. My work, also, has become "intense", with the economy the way it is and I just didn't have much time to be as socially active, as I was. However, I stay in contact with some of the other Support Group members, as well as the locals.

My point is that if you want to find other TGs in your area... good quality, serious, non-threatening and friendly people... find the closest Transgender Support Group... and join it!!! !!! !!! !!! !!! !!! It's a safe way to meet other CDs that have already been a part of the Group, so you don't have to worry about meeting total strangers. You can attend in drab... or dressed... whichever is more comfortable for you. Most have some kind of Newsletter or online site where you can get information and see how the group works. My Support Group is very active, politically, so that is a lot of the focus at their meetings. Sometimes, the theme is more for TSs... other times they will have in a makeup artist for us CD types. It's all fun and informative.

Oh... I did forget to mention that they often go out after the meetings to socialize or have dinner. So you also have the support of "getting out", too!

Okay!!! No more whining about not knowing any other CDs and wishing you had someone to talk to and dress with!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They "ARE" out there... probably living across the street or in the next neighborhood... but you have to take some action to find them.

Now... do a Google search on "Transgender Support Group" and add your city, state, province or even, your country. You will be amazed at what you will find. And, yes, you may have to travel a bit... but, believe me... it's worth the effort!!!

Thank you! Thank you, very much!!! (Elvis)

Hi Melissa,

I was going to say alot of what Jen said... I have contacted the cd support group in my area, but due to the demanding nature and odd hours of my job, I have yet to attend any functions. But the president seems nice, and keeps faithfully sending me emails announcing functions. I hope I will find the time to make it at some point.

As Jen said, there is no pressure to show up dressed if you don't want to, or if it is impracticle for you. I know the group in my area often holds their meetings in hotel suites so those who want to can get dressed and clean up afterwards there.

There is a girl on this site who is either from the Niagra Falls or Toronto area(I can't remember which as I write this) who I know belongs to a support group. She speaks highly of it. I don't know how close your town is to either of them. She pms me from time to time, but I know she is extremely busy, as she has her own business. I would be happy to pm her and ask her more details for you, and possibley introduce the two of you online. She is very nice.

Good luck finding one either way.

Hugs,

Melissa

Having friends nearby

Hi Melissa.

I'm about an hour and a half drive from you and I'd love to meet you sometime. The problem is that although my wife knows about my dressing, she is not supportive, and I'd have to have a reason to make a trip to K-W. However, there are occasions when I go through your city on my way to Toronto (to see a Blue Jay game, for example) and we may be able to get together over lunch. However, I'm not able to travel dressed en femme.

The other thing is that I'm considerably older than you. I'll be 75 next birthday. You can read the story of my CD life at www.geocities.com/suegsusan/index.html and you can send me an e-mail from that web site.

I have only ever met one person - a young lady (gg) who I made contact with through another list. We have met two or three times in Toronto.

Love, Susan

Thanks

Thanks to all of you for your wonderful replies. I can see that there are many options and there are many of us who feel as I do.

Thanks to the other Melissa as always for your words of wisdom and your eloquent style (and you have a beautiful name I might add).

Sue and Alice I would love to meet if the opportunity presents itself. Please drop me an email if either of you plan to be in the Cambridge/Kitchener/Waterloo area. It would be great to have a coffee and chat and forge a new friendship.

Drop me an email at melissacd@hotmail.com.
