Went to the therapist today and (using the HBSOC) he explained to me why a name change is important in the transitioning process. I understand that a change of name shows a serious commitment to transitioning, but I still think I should be able to call myself whatever I want without people doubting that I am who I say I am.
As many of you know, I have not changed my name legally. I have a female first name which I no longer use in everyday interactions, but I do have to use for legal ones (and which I've kept for sentimental reasons). And my middle name is a slightly longer version of "Lex" - considered a female name in this country, but it's actually gender-neutral in some cultures (like my parents').
Anyway, I've been giving it some thought and I honestly don't know what name(s) I would choose if I were to change it. I would keep some form of "Lex", but other than that, there are no particular names that I feel define me.
Maybe I'll just change my first name to "Capt".
So, I'm asking you guys (and girls) that know me . . . if you were to give me a name, what would it be and why? Please note, the why is important. This is mostly for fun, but I would like serious answers, please.
Any takers?
