My worst nightmare

Hi Girls,
I am slowly getting used to taking a few steps outside my door. I have a worst nightmare fear that haunts me and some other CDs and just to put in into perspective I thought I would put it out there to see if it has any basis in reality so here goes.
My biggest fear is that someone will purposely or accidently knock my wig off while out dressed. You know the way some people used to steal a policeman’s helmet or cap for a dare. What would I do all made up but looking awful without my wig. Had this or similar ever happened or what would you do if it did. If it’s never happened to anyone I have to try to forget about it and try to think differently.

Never reported in the 1/2 year I've been reading here.

Only thing close I can think of is Marla's worry that her wig would fly off while she was driving her sexy little convertible...that didn't happen either...

Anybody?

That has never happened to me, but if it is such a concern to you perhaps a large purse, big enough to contain an extra wig, would help you overcome your fears.

Get yourself a wig cap, Hon. It makes your wig more secure and keeps the liner a little cleaner if your scalp sweats.

Yes, this happened to me about 8 years ago. We were having one of our Dignity crossdressing cruises where I remained enfemme 24/7. One night I was playing a slot machine in the casino on the ship when a couple walked up to me and the man yanked my wig off my head. The woman apoligized for her husband's behavior, returned my wig and even brushed my hair back into place. A security person did see what happened and told the man that he was banned from the casino for the remainder of the cruise and if he gave me any additional problems he would be left at the next port. The other passengers in the casino were so supportive. I went back to playing the machine and did end up winning 400 quarters.

Yes, I knocked my own wig off (far too much to drink) in a very bad place for it to happen at 3 in the morning. I picked it up and put it on using the poor light from a streetlamp and a shop mirror. I looked a mess when I got back in - but nobody died
I strut my stuff, I feel so proud,
I need to shout, to scream out loud,

Thumbs up Wig issues

As you can see from my avatar, the wig i wore was failry full and long. As a precaution my SO used a small crochet hook to pull some of my own hair through the wig cap to "lock" it on. It worked perfectly. My own hair is the same color as the wig so it was a perfect match.

It did take a little effort at the end of the evening to remove the wig but that made it all the more fun- imagining I would have to stay in the wig and therefore have to stayed en femme. Alas, she succeeded in removing the wig so back to drab I went.

Also when you secure the wig that way you can play with it a bit more and really turn in a presentation of confidence.
That is also why I would never use breast forms that can pop, rupture or otherwise create a mess. Some use water balloons which I personally think is rather risky.

My first set was made form stocking toes and birdseed, so unless you are attacked by some ravenous pigeons, you should be OK.

BTW you look fantastic in your avatar and I am glad the others around you treated you with dignity.

Oops!!

A GG friend of the family, years ago, when most women had a wig or two, wore one to an outdoor wedding. She was moving around the edge of a flower bed trying to get a better view, and walked under a low hanging branch of a tree that snatched her wig off her head. so I guess there is more than one way to loss your wig.
But if it would make you feel more secure, maybe you could get a pretty scarf to carry in your purse as a security blanket. There is a lot of pretty ways to cover your head in a hurry. A strech Turban is another thing that comes to mind, a lot of wig shops sell them in many colors.

I have never heard of someone having their wig knocked off by some prankster.

I can understand the fear but it is unlikely.

Hi Antonia,

While this too would be a very big embarrassment to me if this actually happened, it never has done (yet). Not in the way you describe ... i.e. someone actually pulling it off on purpose. I think that unless you are read instantly by a total a$$ole who is looking for trouble, it's very unlikely to happen.

I do have the same worries as you though, but on a windy day. We don't get much wind at all in Sacramento but I go to the San Francisco Bay Area fairly often and it's as windy as hell there (IMHO) quite often.

I do wear a wig cap and my wig is fairly tight fitting on my head but still, I do worry about it being blown off. So if it's really windy (especially walking into the wind) I lower my eyes, and look down at the sidewalk as I walk and so far I've never had a problem.

It happens - but it is pretty rare..

Yeah, it's happened to a few people I know (mostly in Manchester, which has a high trans population) and also to me in Bristol last year... I think people understand just how important it is to us and how it destroys our dignity? Thankfully in the UK it's treated pretty seriously by the police, they do view it as an assault to the person.

When it happened to me, yes, it's embarrassing - but as I also had blood streaming down my face and my assailant in a headlock, it wasn't the primary priority to get it back and regain my composure - but it was second on the list?

I guess it's a little akin to a genetic woman having her skirt pulled up, or her pants pulled down - the same level of assault to one's inner self - but they're both pretty rare?

I think we all worry about this happening. I used to pin my wigs on, use double-sided tape and generally get them so tight that I got a headache in an hour. I quite doing that and just fit them so they fit right.

In the 30 plus years of wearing a wig I have never had one come off, get knocked off or blown off. I have driven a number of open top cars with no problems other than wind-blown hair.

Talking cd took her wig off

I was commenting on her hair, it was short, yet very nice, looked as if it was her real hair.... so I asked the question: Is that your natural hair or is it a wig? She just lifted it up off her head and smiled at me..... Ah, to see someone so comfortable with who they are, no worries..... If it happens, it happens, can't do anything about it, so smile, smile, smile

go for the gold

My tendency, if I was brave, would be to pull out one breast form and claim cancer (which I've survived, although it was a different place). Then let anyone say anything about headhair

Antonia I can't imagine something something like this happening to me. If someone was such a low life to actually do this to me I would hope his health insurance was in force because he would definately be going to the hospital!!!!!! There are a lot of assholes out there that would do such a thing and I think they are pathetic excuses of being a human being. It is sad that we have to live in such a cruel world. I think that the chances of this happening are remote so don't let it stop you from being who you are.

I guess it does happen, but not often. More likely to get knocked off by accident than on purpose.

I say don't worry about it.

I too use bobby pins to secure it on. I "twirl" one side of the bobby pin through the wig twirling it around the hair (mine) underneath. Then I let the pin go back together securing the pin to both my hair and the wig. Once when I was out at Hunters in Chicago a group of straight girls and guys were there. (Curoius, I think, more than anything) One of them reached up and grabbed my hair as I walked by and tried to pull off my wig. (She nearly ripped the hair off my head!) She apologized profusely, saying she did it as a joke and thought I was wearing a wig. The group ended up standing around me saying how nice I looked, etc, and started asking me all sorts of questions - (They now thought I was TG - as when I stopped and faced them they saw my rather large size D cleavage!) So what started out as a prank ended up ok. They ended up buying me 2 or 3 drinks through out the rest of the evening!

USE bobby pins - they work!!! (One above each temple and one in the back)
Hugs
Jen

I can't believe it would ever happen. I just feel more the part if I know I can turn upside down and still look okay. I use a wig cap, sometimes I use one long strip of masking tape around the edge of the wig cap to secure it. When you put on our wig use bobby pins to hook the wig to the wig cap and it will be held on well. The other thing I do, since my wig has ear flaps that cover my sideburn area is to use spirit gum to hold the flaps down. The wig holds on like your own hair when you do it this way. You can actually comb it while it is on your head.
