How many of you dress away from home in ‘safe’ environments?

How many of you dress away from home in ‘safe’ environments? From reading other threads I realise that quite a few of you dress away from home – either because you have to (unable to dress at home) or in addition to dressing at home. Fully dressed, that is, not under-dressed.

Many of you seem to like dressing for car journeys, or in the privacy of hotel rooms when you are away on trips. The countryside seems to be a popular place to walk around dressed, too. Some go to clubs and change before they get there or when they arrive. Do you have a sympathetic friend who lets you dress at their house?

Do you fully dress away from home and, if so, where do you like do it?

I dress up to drive to work and then change back to drab once I’m there. I dress for long car journeys and I (sometimes) dress for walks with my wife – we usually go somewhere on the moors where we don’t excite the natives.

Living in a small town I can't dress fully without causing a traffic jam. I have been out in girls' jeans and a top under a more or less unisex jacket but that's about as far as I dare take it. So I go to a large city about once a month where I'm a member of an organized CD group. There I can can go about dressed fully as a woman. I always make the drive in drab and change after I check in to the hotel. If I could suss out a way to get from my house to my car without the nosey small town neighbors seeing me I would travel and check in en femme.

So far, when I am on the road it is hotel only. Fortunately, I have had large 1 bedroom suites and I at least have some room to wonder a round and go out on the balcony to look at the outside world. Better than nothing. When I can, I love to go out on the town with friends, but that unfortunately does not happen often enough.

That was a phase of my journey. Long drives or distant Malls. Changing in parking lots. While it worked as a means of gaining confidence in myself, the whole undercurrent of sneaking into the shadows to change my clothes was disturbing to me. However, my circumstances have changed and I don't need to do that any more.

I'd class most restaurants as pretty 'safe' environments?

I fully dress on every business trips.... and on mini-vacation days around m=home and I typically go shopping enfemme.. or out to eat or to a local casino... they take my money no matter how I'm dressed!! and it's as safe as it can be I guess... I do pick my venues carefully so as to not put myself in harms way...

Under dress at home, then find a place less traveled by the public to finish dressing. If I'm spotted I general move out of the area. I've changed back into drab pretty much the same way.

If I start travelling for work again, I'll probably try it then. For now its just small trips on the other side of town. I always hated dressing on the road (in the car, port-potty etc) so now I fully dress at home and wear baggy mens clothes on top and in the winter a heavy jacket on top and hat makes changing pretty painless. I cleanup using baby wipes in a parking lot and cover up again before I head home. My main objective is to look like my usual male self coming and going. I also dress at home, but I enjoy going out.

I usually go out once a month to tri-ess meetings. I have gotten bolder over time and dont care as much as I used to if somene sees me. I have been shopping at a few stores (payless, fashion bug) and been to a nail salon for a pedicure in both guy and gurl mode. And the last tri-ess meeting we went out for a bite after the meeting. I know people stare but I dont care. Its probably because you dont see a 6 foot tall (bare foot) gurl in heels very often.

Live in a small enough town that it is easy to be recognized, and am known by enough people in it that I am going to run into someone. I do this in male mode so I know I won't be able to escape it during female.

I go to a larger city or when I take trips for work or more so for pleasure. My first outing was away from home. So I am sure that it will have to continue just like that.

My wife and I will usually get a hotel room a few times a year and I venture out to the local botanical garden or other excursions. Sometimes she goes with me, but usually she just wants to spend a quiet day away from the racket at home.

When we went to Niagra Falls this past spring, on vacation, I got to spend a day there dressed with her and I siteseeing and a day on the Amtrack traveling. That was so neat!

Because of work i live about 4 hours from home. I have an apartment and dress whenever I want. I don't go out since this is a small town and I am not to the point where I feel comfortable going out. However that day is approaching.

When the wife is out (she knows, but does not want to see it) I dress at home. I dress at the site for support group meetings. A times when i am in bold mode, I can add high heels, earrings, lipstick and wig in my pickup while still wearing pants and a heavy, sweater slightly padded.

I dress freely in the privacy of my home but dont go outside.

I keep a safe zone for heading into public a few miles around my home and those of my relatives.

    Just my comfort level

I dress at a gg friends house and go out from there. I keep about 20 miles from my home when I go to the malls and restaurants during the weekdays.

I always dress at home, and then go out, but those are far and few between instances. Wife does not approve. Does not allow me to shave my mustache off very often. Have gone fully dressed to the last few therapist sessions though.

I travel frequently and like to take a skirt or two with me and wear throughout the hotel. Haven't ventured out much past my own floor but getting farther and farther from my room. Wondrering what it would be like to go into the hotel restuarant and get something to eat in a skirt. Think anyone would notice?

small town and CDing do not mix

Well let me clarify that. Living in a small town out here on the prairie and being different makes it a very hard place to live. I have seen people and families move because they did not fit in and were too different for people around here to handle. And it would be hell for my wife and kids if I was outed here in town. So my out and about CDing takes me out of town. Some times out of town out of the state on business, but sometimes just to larger towns an hour or so from home with a lot more people. But interestingly I have also been CDing in small and tiny towns and have not had any problems. Yea I surprise some people and sure I am the talk of the store or town when I leave, but my money is good and I have been treated well most places I have been.

The first time I went out CDing was out of town on business and it was one of the best things I ever did. It gave me a level of confidence and the ability to see that I could do it and did not need to fully pass to get out and about.

IMHO, being out of town and away from home gives me a sense of freedom to be who I am. It allows me to relax, get feminine and be a part of me that I do not get to be outwardly visually very often.

The first time I went out I went out with the attitude of:

" it did not matter what others thought as I would never see them again"

And being away from home and those that knew me it did not matter and the chance of it affecting my wife, kids and ability to provide for them was very low.

joe in a skirt. Being myself not trying to be some other CDer
Just trying to find a balance for my son and myself.

Standard disclaimer: Going out of the house was right for me, it may or may not be right for you. If you've got no desire to leave the house, that's fine, I'm not trying to push you out the door. But for those who've been yearning to do so, I just want to let you know the world may not be as scary a place as you think.
