Square Dancing lessons starting soon in your area!

I know that many of you are looking for things to do when out dressed.

One option you may not have considered is Square Dancing. Don't knock it until you have tried it!

The majority of the dancers are gay/lesbian and there are many cross dressing and transgendered dancers as well.

Lessons are typically weekly. Venues are drug, tobacco and alcohol free and are typically held at a safe church, school, community or veterans hall.

Dancers are very accepting and friendly. This is an activity that you can do WITH your SO but you don't have to have a partner or even ask anyone to dance. Go onto the floor and join a forming square and a partner will just show up. You can dance the boys part, the girls part or either!

The LGBT community has a very active association of member clubs all over the world. Check http://www.iagsdc.org/ to see if there is one in your area.

The figures are the same ones the straight community does, so if you can't find a LGBT club, take lessons at a straight club and go to flyins/conventions.

Lessons are starting in September in most areas and usually take a few months to complete. The first couple of lessons are usually free, followed by a token weekly/monthly fee to pay for insurance, the hall and the caller.

Sorry to hear that Robyn. Maybe the country western dancers at http://www.iaglcwdc.org/clubs.php#Texas is worth checking out? (they have clubs in Houston). I haven't been associated with them. Maybe they know of a non affiliated LGBT square dance club in Houston.

I suspect that what she meant was "No LGBT square dancing club in Houston". I'm sure that there are straight clubs there.

Austin and San Antonio have the only two clubs listed in Texas at http://www.iagsdc.org/main/clubs/pag...p?order=region

Your Post Was Mostly Correct About Square Dancing. There Are Many Gay Square Dancing Clubs, But Not All Are.

I just reread my post and see where you got that impression! Sorry about that! The majority of clubs are straight.

Let me rephrase, Of the LGBT square dancing clubs, most members are gay, lesbian or trans, but there are also some straght members as well. Conversely in the straight square dance clubs, most members are heterosexual, but many are accepting and welcome all.

So get out there and dance!
