Closet or Museum, New Years resolution, wear what I buy

    Hello friends,

I pulled out a black bolero top the other day from my closet to wear with my strapless black micro mini dress, and my ,way over the top, platform shoes, dressed more for a casino at New Years . And I realized that I had that bolero for about 3 years, price tag still attached which led me to look at a lot of my clothes. Sometimes I purchase a "gotta have it dress or accessory" and never use it. Like the black very wide round brim Audrey Hepburn hat, and the long opera gloves, just missing a cigarette holder, the mink stole, I never wear out. The 7" stiletto pumps.
What is the moral story...I don't know. I only know that I love the things I buy and have been blessed with, but also realize that many of the items need to be used more.
My New Years Resolution, wear more of my clothes and accessories, don't just let them hang in the closet. I am terrible, I buy on impulse, obsessed at times.

The new rule in our house is ... 1 new thing in, 1 old thing out. It's a good rule, but it's just so hard to decide what to part with. After all those years of purging and regretting the loss of some beautiful clothes I find it incredibly difficult to let anything go anymore unless it's worn out.

I have become much more discriminating in my purchases, for several reasons: cost, time (my dressing opportunities are infrequent, so I can't wear everything anyway), space (I'm very much in the closet) and style to hide my hairy arms and chest (must have sleeves, high necklines).

If I buy something I plan on wearing it. If I can't wear it in public then it goes back. In fact I think about where I can wear it when I pick it out. There are some dresses I have that can only be worn on certain occasions and that is ok, but most of what I get is either fairly casual or like office attire.
All I ever wanted was to be a girl. Is that really asking too much?

Debra, the truth is that when I like an item I have been known to buy multiple pairs of the same dress or shoes, true siege mentality. I admire your discipline. I can't do that, so I don't go shopping, if something catches my eye I must buy it!

When I was into model railroading, I found that the hobby could be divided into 3 groups based on their predominant activities. Those that built detailed layout, those that just laid some track on a table and ran trains and those that just collected trains and never ran them. I think there is a parallel with crossdressing. Those that like to see themselves wearing hot clothes and rarely go out, those that like to go out dressed and blend in and those that like to collect clothes they love to look at. I know I mainly fall into the first group, a little into the 3rd group and I have no desire to go out and blend in. Maybe you have a bit of collector in you too.

    Hello Ally,
I definitely love collecting, and I definitely pay attention to detail and I also go out. I am just dangerous when at a mall or store.

    Thanks happy New Year

Shopping on line isn't that safe either, especially when all you have to do is sign into PayPal. LOL

Happy New Year to you too Tiffany.

I've just done an inventory and decided that unless I decide to transition to full time I have toooo much right now. Especially that when I do dress I tend to go with my favorites.
The only saving grace is that I have a few tops that I can wear in drab under a sweater or some sweaters that can go both ways. There are few colors or patterns that that I won't wear to work and so far nothing has been said. It seems that I've always have on at least one fem outerwear item and there have been plenty of times that everything from skin out was from the ladies department.

I have decided to put my clothes on a roster system.
I will index each article on a card, cross reference it with accessories I have suitable for that article and last wear date.
Also condition of the item, suitable for day or evening wear, material, color, attraction index, that is sexy or track suit material.
When I have this all up and running I will make a spreadsheet of all the information and organize some quick keys to access the information needed.
This will all take a couple of years so in the meantime I will ruffle through my closet and find something warm and cuddly for now.
If I find nothing suitable I will just have to go out and buy something to tide me over till next time.
    Work on your elegance,
    and beauty will follow.

LOL Beverly, I had a list of only my different hosiery and I could not keep up with it. It is a wonderful mess to ruffle through.

I think I live in "meantime" cause so much never gets done.
