In the early 1980s, on a second-hand book stall, I came across what was obviously an old (1960s or 70s?) school textbook for girls. It was a guide for teenage girls about female etiquette and covered topics such as hair care, make-up, deportment, hygiene and several sections on clothing. There were a couple of pages each about choosing a bra, wearing stockings, underwear, washing and ironing, etc.
In those pre-internet days when access to such informarion was limited, such opportunities to learn about "being a girl/woman" were rare.
Within the deportment chapter (walking, sitting, posture, etc) was a brief item under the heading "Skirt Management". It was written pre-mini-skirt and pre tights, so was mainly about making sure girls knew how to move, sit, get in and out of cars, etc. while safeguarding modesty and avoiding accidentally "showing" underwear.
My own efforts to find out what it was like to wear female clothing were well-advanced by the 1980s and that textbook helped me to understand the way that girls learned the same thing! In today's world the internet provides masses of such information. A simple search under "Skirt management" produced one particularly clear and good tutorial which, unlike that textbook, included the art of wearing mini skirts.
