Hello, i was wondering if anyone could help me with a little problem, you see i suffer badly with exma on my legs which make my legs look really horrible, and i can only shave my legs once every 2 weeks because it irratates my skin, i have tried E45 cream and also mosturing cream but it is still there,

I was wondering if anybody knows any other methords that could help my situation ?

I would be very thankful for any advice

My mum reckons Dovonex is good... Available on prescription. I use sudocrem when I get a minor outbreak... It's less greasy than E45 which seems to make things worse. Fenjal bath oil is lovely too... try shaving in that (Good for eczema too).

Hi there,

Ask your doc or pharmacist about steroid cream for eczema, Hydrocortisone should help.

Jenny, ask your family doctor to send you to a dermatologist who will know eaxctly what you need.

It's not like any eczema treatments are dangerous substances that will harm you if misused. Just go ahead and try some 1% hydrocortisone cream from the drugstore. If that doesn't work, then you can go to your doctor and tell him it doesn't work and maybe he'll get you a Prednisone prescription, but the problem is that hydrocortisone is something you can use forever. Steroid pills like Prednisone aren't something you should take habitually.

I've got pretty bad eczema (seborrhoeic dermatitis) that comes and goes on my forehead, cheeks, up onto my scalp, sometimes around my ears, and a little on my elbows. Selsun Blue (the kinds with selenium sulfide) help, and so does Nizoral shampoo. You don't just put it on your hair, obviously; you wash the affected area with it.

Zinc pyrithione shampoos (the active ingredient in Head & Shoulders and most other dandruff shampoos, including a few newer types of Selsun Blue) does not help eczema.

Taking a biotin supplement helps eczema for some people, so you should try it. If it does help, that can be a sign of an enzyme deficiency that might also cause you to have a kind of NutraSweet allergy which gives you intestinal troubles or even symptoms that mimic MS (although severe cases of that called PKU are tested for at birth).

My face used to always be red, inflamed, itchy and painful. These days I take 1000mg biotin, wash my hair/face with Selsun Blue or Nizoral shampoo a couple times a week, and put a little hydrocortisone cream on my face in the morning most of the time (and anywhere else that's a little dry or red). It's totally gotten rid of the problem for me.

Of course, if the problem is totally covering your legs, it'll probably be a little more difficult for you to deal with.

HTH!

How old are you? My eczema cleared up a lot when I passed puberty. My dermatologist in high school used to make me sit in front of a UV light, and in the summer when I'm in the sun a lot (I'm a surfer and sailor), I'm always clear. I just noticed some dryness and scaling on my arms that I chalk up to my new hormones. Try the over-the-counter cortizone creams, the low dose won't do much harm.

I had it really bad on both legs. Went to the dermatologist and he prescribed 10 days of heavy steroids. 60mg, 3 times a day. I didn't sleep nearly the whole time. Made me crazy and my blood pressure went up more than he would have liked, but damned if it didn't work.

After a few months of no itchy legs, it started creeping back, so I shaved my legs. I use Cetaphil lotion on them every morning and evening. I don't know if the shaving is acting as an exfoliant and the Cetaphil is helping, but it has been 3 months now and not a sign of it has returned.

I am actually afraid to let the hair grow back now.

I can't stand having most moisturizers on my skin. I love Cetaphil. It's not greasy and doesn't smell gross.
