Anyone had a professional pedicure and polish in a salon in the UK?

Did you feel intimidated/shamed?

I'd love to de-stress by going into a beauty salon and having my nails done, but worried what the women who work there may think.

Why limit the question to just members from the UK?

Heathr in answer to your question i have had my nails done in a salon and the girls there enjoyed the experience as much as i did, no problems whatsoever, you could ask as i did at the desk first, but so many men get their nails manicured now i don't forsee you having any problems, nothing ventured nothing gained

we in the UK are a little old fashioned and less accepting about CDing than other countries.

Au contraire, Heathr. I could rant about this for hours, and it's just my humble and totally subjective opinion, but as a California girl married to an English CD, and having spent time in both countries, I can assure you that the English public in general seems much more accepting of girly guys and CDing than they are here. The only places in the US where I've seen as much tolerance of gender blurring as in England, were San Francisco and NYC (two of my favorite cities in the world). I'm sure LA is also great, but I've never been there. My point is, so many Americans are prudes....you would laugh your knickers off at how strictly our TV networks censor nudity, sex and even the mildest bad language. Hello! It's not even the norm for people to sleep naked in this country. Every time I get in a conversation with GG acquaintances about what they wear to bed, and I say I sleep in the nude, they look at me like I just said I'm a porn star or something...lol. Sorry, pet peeve of mine.

Anyway, what does all that have to do with CDing? I just think the British are better about accepting people's eccentricities. Ok, part of that may be that they are too polite to say anything, but that works in our favor :) Not having such a powerful religious Right probably has something to do with it too. I would live there in a heartbeat if it were possible, but since I have a son from a prior marriage and can't move him overseas with us, Angel had to be transplanted to sunny California in order for us to be together (can everybody say poor Angel?). Anyway I will ask Angel to add his thoughts on this....if I can get him to come in and stop working on his bikini tan lines.....I know he used to get manicures, have his legs and chest waxed, and get facials when he lived there. I don't know about pedicures though.

it is the asking for pink/red/maroon polish I'm worried about, although I desperately want it.

I may ask for a mobile beautician to visit me.

Heathr you can do this no problem, the younger girls who operate these nail stations are so very understanding of our needs, you are just another customer, if you want it so desperately then go and make it happen for yourself, write down exactly what you want then phone in with your requirements then when you arrive they know what you want, guaranteed you will feel ten feet tall afterwards

Heathr, I have a nail shop down the street and while searching for gift ideas I went in and had a look around, they do guys & girls and business is business!
So as a first step I bought a gift certificate and now I may not feel as awkward the next time I go into the shop.

And Marla, thanks for your opinion. A while back I posted the question of which was the more "popular" place for CDs, US or UK, and I don't know what happened to the thread, I guess it got moved elsewhere. But from what I have read here it definitely seems like UK people are more open to it, especially in public. Thanks again
