I've been looking into the legal name change route. At this point it's not a pressing issue, but I would like to have Jessica on my work documents and what in the future. And what I've found the information the Colorado Judicial website makes it seem pretty straight forward. The hardest part is the FBI background check that could 10-18 weeks. That kind of makes it not a weekend event.
I was wondering for the hearing though what kind of stuff should I have availible to present to the court? It said nothing about a therepist letter, but I doubt they had transexuals in mind when the drew up the web-site and directions.

i'd say stop by the courthouse and talk to someone who's worked with name-changes. you'll probably need to setup an appointment. i scanned their website, and it seems pretty relaxed, so long as you're not a felon, but it would behoove you to get the info directly from the source, this way you don't have any surprises down the road.

The FBI check shouldn't take anywhere near that long! I was cleared in 3 weeks, and that was over this Xmas holiday season.

Albeit I do not live in your state, I just recently got my birth name changed to a different legal name. The first thing I did was go to the District Court house and to the Law Library there. I told the receptionist what I was interested in and she helped me find all the laws governing it in our state. The do's and don't's legally. I read them (only about 7 pages but large print) and began my proceedings.
I would heartedly suggest you do that rather than relying on some "webpage." Better to get it from the horses mouth than some horse's ass.
Success to you.

It was the State Judicial site. That is from the horses mouth. It was not some random google site. But you are 100% correct I do plan on talking to people at the courthouse. I feel that the more I know not only the smoother it will proceed, but increase the chances for sucess.
