View Full Version : Is your husband gay?

That title is for a quiz I ran across on CNN's web site, one of those paid ads.
Well curiosity killed the cat, so I went to the site, and took the test giving answers that I thought my wife would have given if she had taken the test.
The second question they ask was does your husband ever wear womens clothes, they went on to ask about how much time does he spend in the bathroom primping when getting ready to go out, and how macho his taste in sports and movies where.
I was left with the opinion that if you wear womens clothing, like chick flicks, and prefer cooking to football, well then you just have to be gay and your wife should worry about you running off with that cute guy down the hall. I don't know how many women will take that test, or believe it, but the stereotype lives on!

They certainly hit all of the stereotypes didn't they. I always wondered about the women's clothes = Gay. If we were gay, why would we have an interest in women's things? Wouldn't it by all guy things all the time?

That theory doesn't work for drag queens, most of which, are very gay.

My wife accuses me of primping and spending more time in the bathroom than any woman she knows.. Personally I could care less if people think I'm gay..
And I'm not gay... I'm just pretty.. :)

I found the link, and waded through a few of the questions. I found it interesting that they show the % results for accumulated answers. Now, we don't know what the actual survey 'volume' is (number of surveys taken), nor can we be certain as to how representative of the population the actual sample is, but it looks to me suggestive that around 10% of the (married) male population might be considered to be crossdressers??
Question 2: "Has your man ever dressed up in women's clothes?"
Answers:
16% I'm laughing so hard I can't even answer that
4% I've caught him in my closet several times
5% My man has a fetish for dressing up in women's clothes
20% Only for costume parties
55% My man wouldn't be caught dead in women's clothes, regardless of the occasion.
I'm assuming I found the survey you were talking about, this is the link:

Indeed. I always saw drag queens as mocking women rather than trying to emulate them. :2c:

I suppose that if I had a husband he would have to be gay.
Of course having both a husband and a wife might be a bit too much.

Generalizing here, of course, but drag queens use their flamboyant, over the top "take" on women as bait for luring a nice gay guy- They revert to boy mode for intimacy, opposite of the bulk of t-gals.
I've socialized in gay bars hundreds of times, en femme, and have been told, literally dozens of times, down the years, that while cute, "I'm a waste of a perfectly good package" :)
My closest t-gal pal, is a gay man in her "normal" life, and stresses that gay guys have ZERO interest in dating TGs. Unfortunately, this extends to be, as she's a totally desiable cutie! Gay guys are attracted to masculinity, not our, often heightened, relative to current GG "norms," femininity.
Think of it as the converse of GG hanging out with gay guys, aka "fag hags," gay guys that might want to hang around us, see us as non-threatening, etc.
It sems that most folks are lucky to have a grasp of binary sexuality, i.e, straight, or gay, perhaps increasing that to bi, but those that haven't dwelt in this "netherworld" of gender fluidity that we seem to experience, have a tough time seperating TG = gay, whereas we're not really part of, or welcome in the gay community- look at last year's ENDA debacle with an out, gay congressman throwing TGs "under the bus."
Why do all these straight (or "str8" on Craigslist ;-) guys want to date/have sex we us t-gals??? Sure we're not "guys," but can't see how anyone considers such intimacy as straight! Plenty of guilt, paranoia, and shame involved here, and some argue that t-gals are simply an "easy" stepping stone towards becoming "fully" gay...
cheers,
Paula

Weirdly, one guy I met told me he doesn't consider it gay if one of you is dressed as a woman (must admit I didn't take up the invite to go back, he appeared to have a few "issues"). Other people hope to present in public as boy/girl whilst being boy/boy in private. I've also met guys who use the stepping stone approach as being "not gay". Seems to be a defence mechanism in some....
Yah – I saw, and took that same absurd poll too.
I was nothing but outdated stereotypes dressed up as a poll. I dismissed it knowing that it had no validity outside of the empty head that created it. It was rather hurtful to see a serious media outlet supporting those stereotypes though. I figured it said more about CNN than it did about reality and ignored it.
Here is what I learned from the poll: Because I am well educated, cultured, shower regularly, and look great in nylons and heels, I am gay.
Here is what I know: If I am gay, I have all the wrong porn.

Damn we are still on the gay/gd rant
Here is what i think rings true:
o Most cross dressers are stralight
o Most drag queens are gay and not cds in the usual definition
o Most gays are not attracte to tgs
0 Most tgs are not attracted to men
Did I leave anything out. No wonder why wives are worried about us.

On the first point, I have to assume that, 1) because sexuality is not really discussed in a civil or healthy way in contemporary western culture, that people don’t really have access to much information other than the binary options of strait / gay, even though most people ARE bisexual to some degree. And 2) that people can only keep so much information in their heads at one time – and so the distinction between gay / strait / bi / TG / CD is lost on them as people who don’t have any real interest in the conversation. Just like most people hear “Christian” and think of the ultra conservative “religious” “right” – when in truth – Christians come in many different forms and belief systems, but most non-Christians don’t know that – or really have the time / inclination to care.
Unfortunately for the Gay / Bi / TG / CD folks – those who don’t have the inclination or interest to be informed about our issues still get to vote. Hmmmm mob rule.
On the second point – “strait” guys want to have sex with us because we can provide a release for their homoerotic feelings in a “safe” way – they can still think of themselves as strait because we are not “really” men. It is an issue of self loathing and societal pressure to conform being applied to confused bisexual men who are afraid to admit their own longings. Gay men aren’t interested in women – not even men who pass as women... but closeted gay men, or closeted bi men... well... we are just the thing that their tortured psyches need.

Is your husband gay?
Easy test. Flash your breasts at him unexpectedly just after he gets out of the shower. Erection results? If yes then he's not gay! He could certainly be Bisexual still but he sure is not Gay! Now if their is no erection it doesnt mean he's definately Gay, he could be in a bad mood or have erectile dysfunction etc.
But if he is capable of getting swiftly aroused at female nudity then he is absolutely clearly and definitively not gay.
Simple, quick and easy test.

Or it could be that plenty of people, men and women, find themselves attracted to Transgender people! They may be Bi or not and still find TG people specifically attractive. I've met women who had tried bisexual experiences but found them personally lacking and instead preferred TG people to either men or women! I've met hapilly bisexual men and women who nonetheless seperately liked TG people. I've even talked with otherwise Gay and Lesbian people who make an exception for TG people!
That suggests that attraction to TG is a seperate thing all it's own that is irrespective of being straight bi or gay when it comes to attraction to cisgender people!

In exploring my tastes in clothing, I have discovered that a willingness to be seen as gay is an open door to dress however I wish. It's like being seen as gay is the worst case scenario. If I can live with that, there's not really any threat.

I agree. I used to cut and style women's hair and quite a few guys asked if i was gay. I always wondered why male hairdressers are thought to be gay but barbers aren't. I absolutely adore and love women and are heterosexual and that may be part of why I enjoyed doing women's hair. If I felt that way about men then being a barber would make the most sense.
FYI at the salon where I worked were 6 males 5 were absolutely straight with wives or multiple girlfriends. The other interesting part was that the gay guy didn't act the least bit like the stereotypical gay hairdresser.
This is an interesting thread.

And here I've been faking orgasms with the ladies all these years...
Do I have to tell my girlfriends I'm gay now? They're not going to take that news very well, methinks!

Why didn't I think of that?

What is not bright sbout that?
If someone is 100% gay then we can imagine they might 'psych themselves up' to have sex with a wife by a great effort of imagining guy-sex in their mind so as to become capable of the act (something done by one gay man who was married to a woman because of family pressure on one tv program I saw years ago) but they will not have the kind of reflexive arousal to female nudity that someone who actually finds women sexually attractive often have.
As i said, there may be other reasons that the guy might not get a swift erection (there are plenty, age and diet being big factors) but if he does then he is clearly and distinctly not 100% Gay! He could still be very much bi but he cannot be purely homosexual. Its just not possible.
So you left out in your quote the important bit that he might be bi or that there may be other reasons there isnt a swift erection. These aren't genius level points and we should be more concerned that someone who might try such a test on their husband without paying attention to the details might also get a licence to drive a car or own a frearm or be allowed near sharp kitchen knives etc.

Ladies Thank you for all the replies, for all the time I have been on this forum, this is the first time I have started my own thread, most of the time I just have time to read what everyone else is up to. But just in case anyone mistook what I was thinking when I started this, I don't really have anything against being thought of as gay, If I where and was out, then life would be much easier in a lot of ways. It's funny but in my town we have a large gay population, but no signs of a transgendered community. But the town is so small we don't have a gay bar, so no place around to feel comfortable for a trans-person. But I just thought after all this years, people would stop trying to put everyone in one convent box, I mean that would not even work for the trans community, much less the whole LGB&T movement.
Tina B.
Oh and as a personal note, yes Karren, you are pretty, and with your wit, you are also very cute!

Thats the news media for you. Always stereotyping.
As a CDer (going onto part time TV) I love women's clothes, romantic comedies, make up,wigs. Love to cook, love my 4 adorable cats and love my soap operas.
As a guy, I love sports, especially football & baseball, I love trains and cars, love my guns and like to drink my beers.
But I have no desire to have SRS and don't have any desires to be with other men sexually.
I'm 100% straight in that dept.
Felicity :)
