Hey Folks - just looking for a general opinion here - do you think this top ( NO, this is not a dress, its called a "Corset Top" ) is too flashy or isn't something I should wear for a trip to the mall?
I'm just planning on wearing it with jeans or a skirt...

Over jeans, and in flats, should be fine...
Except in Chi-Chi urban areas, skirts & heels are seldom seen in malls on GGs
And stilettos and escalators can be a bad combination (from one who's tumbled down the Powell St. BART station escalator, in hers...)
Of course teeny boopers in denim minis & Ugg boots "don't count"

Wear whatever you feel comfortable in, but bear in mind that if you stick out in the crowd you will draw attention to yourself........
I'd wear it, with a nice short skirt, some black nylons and a pair of knee high boots, and a scarf but that's just me :hf:

I think it really depends on where you live and your personal style. I personally would not go to any store outside of Russia in that top. (Sorry if I insulted you, but you asked).

That little number is too stagy and attention grabbing, in my opinion.
I'd only wear it if I were age 19 and perfect and wanted lots of attention :-)
It's more along the lines of nightime goth barwear, in my opinion.

I really likt e it but if you don't want to stick out like a light house on a dark night at sea, I wouldn't wear it at the mall.

Is hard to tell from the top alone. Maybe a picture wearing the top can give an idea.
I don't find it that flashy but again, it depends on what people normally wears in this mall.

Well I love the top, but it will definitely get you noticed. It is a little stand outish, as was said more of a clubwear look. For mall look maybe a turtleneck or sweater and pair of jeans.

Hi Nicole,
It depends on whether you want to turn a lot of heads or just blend in? Whatever you choose, have fun. Youv'e chosen the most public of places for your first venture out.
Good luck.

Nice no problem wearing it out but for shopping if you want to blend in no...if you want to draw attention by all means....

Hmm.. something to consider - thats for sure!
I don't really see it as attention grabbing as you all describe - the place I'm going to is in a very large city and its the busiest mall in the city.
I figured I would blend in ,since i've seen all kinds of ages, colours, outfits, at this place. Plus, its outside of my home city.
Now you've really got me thinking - but I don't really have the money to keep buying all different kinds of outfits !
I've already attempted an outing before in a small town, and just went store to store - I have no idea what people thought and generally I didn't feel threatened.
The city I am going to is very diverse and now I'm not going to be totally dis-illusioned and say there are no prejudices towards anyone who would stick out in a crowd - but in the city I live in - a crossdresser would be seen with more contempt, scorn and being "pointed out" than in the City I'm going to venture out to.
And, for the record - I'm wearing flats (I would kill myself in heels - escalator or not!) - Also considering Jeans or Lululemon pants (if you don't know what those are , think Yoga pants) or a skirt.
I really want to feel feminine and I really believe the outfit I've chosen reflects the girl I want to be.
I kind of want the attention but at the same time I am a bit frightened - especially by the strong responses - what to do....

PRETTY I want one!!!

Oh girlfriend, how can you not afford multiple outfits, if sportin' $98 Lululemom pants (I "cheap out" with the $68 ones from Lucy, but saving my shekels for #1 :)
Actually, unless you have a long/tunic top/fleece half/quarter zip top, the "package" is gonna be tough to hide, in yoga pants/crops. I do a tight tuck, and still tough to totally hide, what the booty revealing benefits are, there can be a downside upfront... Jeans are way less worry, in that regard
I wear a dance belt (padded jockstrap/thong) to Pilates & yoga classes, but not tucked, there's less specific bulge, but not exactly a femme profile (tho I take classes in drab, tho only wear femme tops & bottoms)
The skirt with boots idea (esp. opaque tights, not sheer hose; and no red boots/hose!) is another good one, tho more seasonal, so still good for a coupla months. I could see that top with yoga pants, if you have the confidence/body for 'em, so that would be three looks, with the same top!
Think it would also need to be no larger than say a size 14 top, to work, too. Long & lean comes to mind, not sure if that describes ya...
Teenage girls will likely be your fiercest purveyors of "stank eye," while out at the mall!

yeppp...gorgeous top....
but that is more for a party or special outing and i think if you wear it to a mall you will draw alot of attention...of course if this is your first mall trip it is a special outing!!!:heehee:
also we cant see your pic...the more passable you are the more you can get away with that top ....and how tall are you??
i am tall but lean so i learned to just wear layered tshirts and tops over jeans anbd flats...
if you want to stand out go for it, but you but you could probably get $50 bucks together and buy at least 3 maybe 4 layered tops and if you look around thats what the girls are wearing!! and they look great on tall girls
either way make sure you have fuN!!!!!!!1 ..it really really is a gorgeous top

Nicole, I love that top! But (isn't there always a but) when you put that red on black, you stand out. At least at my mall, in the day time most of the girls seem to wear more subdued colors. Red is considered very sensual, and there for it attracts attention, when a guy sees a red dress, or shirt he is going to look to see who is wearing it. now if that is OK with you, then go for it, it sure is pretty!

I Love the top, but I wouldn't wear it to the mall to go shopping, but it would be perfect for a club or gathering.
Would you mind telling me where I can find that top?

Here's the acid test:
Pick out what you want to wear.
Ask yourself, " How many people have I seen wearing an outfit that looks like or similar to this one?"
If any, did it catch your attention?
Do you want to draw attention? or blend?
Now, either put it on or put it back, and go have fun.

Sure, its a place on E-bay called " Dangerous Curves Ahead " just look up that store name .
Well, judging by your responses - I should go a bit more conservative in my dress.
But, I think you've made me all realize that I kind of do want the attention! I really wanted to feel feminine and the flowy-ness of that pretty corset shirt, along with the skirt I bought really makes me feel like a woman. Moreso than a pair of jeans and a blouse.
I've already been there and done that before and sure, it made me feel a bit more female, however I feel the outfit I picked out really helps me transform into the girl I want to be. If people stare etc. well POO on them! I want to go out and have fun - who knows, I might even go hit the bar like you've all suggested - later that day!

I wouldn't worry about other people. If it makes you feel good,do it!!! And I for one do not get this "attention thing" I am reading more & more about. For one thing...guys are gonna look at women or those perceived to be. Period! There's no way around that. Guys are guys. As far as for the women,it's usually all good! I get smiles, an occasional hello, nice bag etc. There is always room for improvement in this business. I am one for continious improvement. As I have gotton better throughout the years, the looks & stares have gone way down. Most all of the time now people look for a second and go back to what they were doing. Yes there are some with a sharp eye. They do notice. Big deal. The reason I mention this is because I could be the "drawing attention to oneself" poster child. Lol. I wear designer clothes, shoes & bags/purses. I have lots & lots of jewelry(yes it's all real!!). Rings, necklaces, bracelets and a G&D watch. So as you can see, I always go out dressed to the max. I actually get less looks & stares now than I ever have. So I guess my point is that you can wear whatever you want. As long as you do it right and it is not tacky, you shouldn't have any issues.
BTW...I love your top. I can see you rocking that with some black leggings/tights,your black flats and maybe a necklace or scarf.

Thank Nicole, I just love the stuff that one can find on Ebay too. so I'll look that place up for sure.
I can understand your thoughts about it, and if it's something like wearing that that will make you feel good about yourself, and feel womanly & pretty, I say by all means, Go for it !!!, because that's what it's all about, feeling pretty and having fun makes use feel great inside, and that's all that really matters. Enjoy!!!

Nicole, it's not about what we think - it's about will you feel comfortable? You're the one who's doing this, if you feel good in it, then do it and come back and tell us how it went? :)
FWIW, the outfit you describe sounds fine to me - you need courage to go to any mall, just don't assume people won't read you, but that doesn't matter - be proud of who and what you are? :D

Something to consider for going out -
What looks and feels good to wear at home may not work real well in the real world. But that I mean what is going to happen when you get to the mall and then realise how much attention that top might draw?
It is kind of like when some go out for a first outing wearing heels they are quite ready for.
YOu just gotta think - what will it feel like to wear that during an outing? Are you ready for lots of attention?

I think this a little too attention drawing to wear to the mall especially if this is your first time out. If it is not your intention to blend in and you are comfortable with the looks you will get while wearing this then by all means go for it. It would be interesting to know your age and whether you are going out alone or will be with others and if so how they will be dressed. In any case, enjoy your trip to the mall.
