I was wondering if anyone had their insurance company have their appointments w/ their endo + blood work covered by the insurance company. I have the very basic forms of insurance with BCBS and am hesitant whether to have them cover it for fear that with a GID diagnosis, they would drop me.

I am in a similar situation right now, but I did want to say that I have heard of people who got their endo appts. paid for. Unfortunately I don't know the details of their insurance. Now I was talking to an endocrinologist about my insurance difficulties, with GID etc., and she said, "Well, I won't give a diagnosis that's going to be denied." So, if you haven't already, you might want to talk to your endo about your concerns.

Anything I have done by my endocrinologist is not covered by my policy. However, when he writes a script for a blood test, I take it to my GP who then orders it herself, which is then covered. Complicated? Yes indeed, but it saves me loads of dough over the course of a year. Sadly, I can't do it for my meds, though.

Well why would a "man" have to go to an endo? Wouldn't the insurance companies know?

Can I ask how much I can expect to pay for each session out of pocket? How many times did you go at the start?

My initial appointment with my endo cost me about $200, and each subsequent appointment costs me $125. The first series of blood tests and x-rays(I have other health concerns that need to be accounted for) cost me an additional $400 or so, which is why I have arranged for my GP to take over the orders.

They deal with all sorts of hormonal and gland problems, whether it's covered all depends on your specific policy and how he codes it.

I can say the best insurance I ahve ever had and still have today for my gender needs is UHC they have paid for my endo with copays and my Rx I get at Krogers they have the 90 day supply for $10.00 policy on most generics.
I have been really luck my endo also terats diabetis patience so maybe that is the loop hole not really sure why UHC has covered it for the last 5 years
