I think the best job for girls like us would be to work in a women's clothing store where we'd be forced to wear the clothes we sell, so people can see how good it looks. Of course, we all have our body flaws, so we'd have to make it work somehow.

you can do anything depending on the people you work with, well maybe not a male model if your enfemme :> as long as you dress appropriate and not like a hooker you should be ok. With the economy right now it might be a little tougher.

What about a home-based business instead of a job? Either one you create or one of the party plan outfits?

I was a Pampered Chef consultant for a while and did some shows en femme, mostly for gay audiences.

I've seen a couple of shows, even for "straight" crowds, done by two different crossdressing Tupperware reps. Both of them put a lot of energy into really amazing performances that completely transcended the crossdressing element, and both of them were top sellers nationwide.

I ran into a crossdresser just a few weeks ago as a matter of fact. She worked part time at Dress Barn, and said it was a very open minded company.

I can't speak from any personal experiences though, I'm forced to wear scrubs to work.

This might be a little too revealing, but how about a CD porn star? I swear I've seen Ron Jeremy wear women's clothing a few times. He was much thinner back then. Now, the thought of him in women's clothes kinda frightens me. LOL

A hair styleist or a makeup artist at MAC you could get away with dressing and going to work

I agree with what Traci had to say - just put your application in as a CDer

Sounds like you are describing one of our sisters here, tamarav.

Maybe she can chime in on this thread and give us some pointers on what steps she took to be able to "live the dream" :daydreaming:.

Really? I honestly thought you had to have a cosmotology liscense or something like that for either one of those. If not, might be something I might want to look into.:)

I think Tamara was being snarky. Not that it helps...

If you want to be a hair stylist or make up artist, you will need some training and experience, and you'll need to be able to demonstrate that you can work with a variety of clients on lots of different looks. If you are willing to put the time in, it's a possibility.

I do know that MAC does have MUAs who are drag queens or are transgendered.

Wondering.....are you planning on being 24/7 or work one job in guy mode and the other in girl mode?
I do not see that working unless you live in a huge town or work your second job a town over.

And I think most are joking if not it's very sexist to say porn star and such nonsense.A Woman's Place Is . . . Just About Anywhere....and the same about tgirls.........why limit yourself?

Yeah "force me". :) Make me wear that outfit!

I know that several corporations around here have hired transgendered people to work. Usually they are hired in areas that are a little more willing to accept them and not your typical white bread suburban area. If you do a good job and don't flaunt your proclivity, they will hire. Specifically, K-mart and Office Depot in this area.

right now, my job is a town over from me. So, I'm trying to find a new one close to me (gas might have went down, but a F-150 still uses a lot of it), and I figured why not just go for it as the true me. My fiancee is ok with it, so I'm gonna go for it.

Heh.

To the others reading the thread:

You want a cosmetology license in Illinois? 1500 hours and 15000 dollars for the training (that's both haircare and esthetician track though). Then you get to take the State test. Then if you wanted to work for MAC you'd have to apply...get past their "entrance test" Which requires showing your skills on models. Then you get the training......have you seen the MAC training materials? I have seen some of them. Imagine Making Faces taken to the next level. They gotta know skincare, they gotta know the MAC products and they gotta be good at helping customers, AND it would probably help if you can stand wearing heels for hours upon end...without complaint, which means spending money on quality shoes and maybe having the ankles and feet of a goddess. And once you know all that...then you finally get that MAC utility belt, which is so freaking cool.

Sure, I'd love to be a MAC artist.....but it wouldn't be easy, quick, or cheap.

Realistically, I doubt most non-fashion non-beauty employers would want to hire a part-time crossdresser to work en femme, especially those who hadn't done any facial hair removal. Though being full time would be different, of course. "Most" is not "all" though, as Tamarav proves, and I know of a couple of crossdressers who worked en femme. And if you were perceived as "full time" even if you weren't, that might also affect things.

I don't know about that, Angie. I'm a homemaker and many times it pays off in the love and affection of my family and the satisfaction of everything working as it should.

Of course, there are days when my spouse comes home bitter from work and even the best dinner won't turn that around, but, oh well, that's life.

Last summer I applied to 3 different Lane Bryant stores. Never got a call. I just had my eyes done by a lady that had been with MAC for 15 yrs, I was not impressed. I told her I didn't like green for shadows, so she used green...BJ

The Post is jobs where you could CD or not. It never said part time or jobs that require little to no experience. I've seen Drags and TS's working at MAC and Hair Salons. You would have to get training for that. It also helps where you live and the openness to the company and if you are dealing with clientel how conservative they might be. More than likely, a Bank in the Southeast would not hire a CD or TG person as a teller or many other positions. I think if you are seriously interested in working somewhere while dressed you need to think of more liberal companies and enviornments.
Yes, we should all be able to work in any enviornment that we want and dress to the idendity that we choose, but that is not the case, we do not all live in a society like that.

If you need a 2nd job to help get out of debt you may want to keep in mind that on average, women are paid less than men. Food for thought.

How about a security job at night (good for either male/female uniforms) or some sort of delivery jig (hospital lab or records, legal docs, etc)? Personally I've always thought of getting a part-time night job en-fem, in so much as I wouldn't really have much interactions with other folks (at least not the judgemental retail-type folks).

In any case good luck with your jub hunting hun.

O.K. ladies, time to think outside of the box. I actually drive an 18 wheeler. And yes, I have driven en femme. Think about it, It pays well, you are basically alone all day unless you have a ride-a-long of your choosing. People on the road don't really give you a second look, unless it's .."there goes another hot truck driver". Oh, and you get to see America (and in my case, Canada too). You can change, or unchange in your sleeper, and emerge whom ever you want to be. Work's for me! I'm actually in my truck now. -Erica

Go for it if you can, that would be nice if you can find a job like that at a clothing store, you will have to be careful and not be trying clothes on during work hrs.

I once seriously considered a bartending job in the gay district of the city... would have been fun, but late nights and a real job in the morning? Not so much.

Tamara was being snippy. We all know that she went to school for all of the certifications and licenses. And then she has to be talented to keep her clientele.
One time my wife had a spirited conversation with a lady at church. Later on the way home she mentioned to me that the other lady had been snippy. After thinking about that my wife made the comment," she does snippy pretty good." She said it as a compliment. Leanne
