Hi, girls,

I was thinking the other day about how I learned what to wear as Stephanie, especially when going out in public. Who influenced me the most?

For me I think it was mostly my Mom since I started out in her clothes and still like to dress simply and tastefully. I have watched the trends and how most other women dress around me and have updated my style to "fit in" but still love the simple roomy, flowing styles. My secret?--I like to dress like a grandma!!!

Was there somebody who influenced how you dress? Mother, sister, aunt, girlfriend, TV star, movie star, neighbor, teacher (nun???), another crossdresser or TS (Christine Jorgensen, Renee Richards, Calpernia Adams, RuPaul?), comic book character (Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Blondie, Little Lulu??), catalogue models (Sears, Victoria's Secret, Lands End??). Tell us who:heehee:?

Love,
Stephanie

A good question and I can't really give an answer other than me. I read the fashion magazines for ideas but when I shop I somehow seem to know what I am looking for. Some stuff just screams Tricia, so I will try it on and if it works buy it. Sometimes though it doesn't. I almost seem to have peripheral vision when I go into a shop - I like that - but I don't look to any particular trend. It does make shopping dead easy though!

Well, it's definitely not my mother. All she ever wears are trainers or stretchy jeans and T-shirts. I'm not a pants kinda gal, but try not to wear anything too garish. I think my influence comes from Clinton and Stacy.

Girls my own age. I look to see what they are wearing and try and decide it it would look good on me. I am on the conservative side, so i tend to dress in a more consevative way. I can do sexy too... like when we're out clubbing, but never ****ty..( well maybe at home LOL)

Hello Stephanie!
The most influence on my style that I have when dressing is how I want to see women on the street dress. I'm searching for that tasteful look that I love to see on the girls that I see in public. It is few and far between, but I love the reasonably short dresses, nylons and heels look.

My wife! I do drive her a bit crazy (in a nice way) asking all kinds of questions about style and such but she's never steered me wrong! Then again, I've made really stupid style choices that she reminds me I would have never made had I grown up as a girl. It's just so hard to go through adolescence AGAIN with a new gender to learn all this stuff!!! (but it's a lot of fun!)

My mom, my wife, fashion magazines and catalogs, some female relatives and friends--all have had some influence on how I dress.

I think I am most effected by the styles popular during the 50's, when I was going through puberty. The Pin Ups of that era were especially influencial.

Pretty much the same or me, though i do like the punk/emo/goth look having grown up around 'the rock scene'

:daydreaming: Dusty Springfield and her long dresses - the blonde hair - long eyelashes - thick eyeliner - heavy on the lippy - OMG all I wanted for Xmas was that look....:daydreaming:

I think I've been mostly influenced by several of my former girlfriends. They didn't know about me, but I adored each one of them...for their personalities, their intelligence, their independence and their style. An artist, a writer, a dancer, a scientist...each one a one-of-a-kind, with a one-of-a-kind sensibility and a totally unique take on what they wore.

And, of course, I'm influenced by women I don't know but strike me the same way.

Some of them are right here! :)...:<3:...;)

My style in dress is based in what I like to see attractive gg's wearing.

My own wife used to dress pretty much exactly how I always wanted to dress when we first started dating. She had (and still has) a sexy style - form-fitting clothes, short skirts, long flowing hair, nice legs. Actually, I just posted a photo of her (http://www.mycdlife.com/2009/03/platanos-fried-plantains) in my blog (her face is hidden) - a good representation of her sexy, yet elegant style. Scroll down to the bottom to see how she looked just the other day.

I don't think my personal taste in clothes or style was really influenced by anyone, but rather just something that I discovered I really like. I'd say the late 80's and early 90's sexy, girly styles are what really stuck with me. Short skirts, great legs, long hair, thin waist, sexy, but not ****ty.

There are actually some "****ty" styles (note the quotes) that I do like, but to me they're not ****ty - they're just hot, sexy, girly and I like them. They're only ****ty to other people who feel that way, and of course to some ****s who happen to dress the same. But I'm no s|ut, except to my own wife. :heehee:

I dress very similar to my sisters, my wife and friends of same age. That is my influence.

Stephanie, I really hadn't given it much thought until now, but I would have to say my mother probably influenced my style. Along with her friends that I was around when I was growing up.

Possibly magazines, television, people I see out and about. I would prefer to say I have my own style.:heehee:

Nobody has influenced me...'cause no one know about me...yet. I like to look at catalogs my wife gets, and online retailers. But after it all...my style is mine only. :>)

I would have to say the elegant celebrity ladies of the 50's and 60's that I worshipped while growing up...

Jackie Kennedy, Sophia Loren, Catherine Deneuve, Elizabeth Taylor, Ann Margret, Grace Kelly, Gina Lollobrigida, Elke Sommer among others.

I also favor the professional business woman look, having been highly influenced by the fashionably dressed ladies that used to abound in offices (think the syndicated "Mad Men" television series) before "business casual" took hold and effectively spelled the death of skirts, dresses, hose, and heels as standard office wear for ladies:sad:.

My big sister. She keeps up with styles and such so she is kind of my fashion consultant.
I tend to try to dress to blend in and be "hip", and my big sis is the one I ask advice from.

I like to dress with current styles or trends. Why be different? As far as influence is concerned, I have been living with my fashion consultant for 33 years who is married to her first husband. Without her, my fashion sense is hopeless.

I'd guess my two easiest identified specific influences as to my style & taste in my dressing would be, from Sex & the City, "Samantha Jones" (the ultimate "cougar muse?") and for my retro-'60s non-dying love affair, Edie Sedgwick (get "Factory Girl" into your Netflix queue...).

cheers,

Mostly rocker chicks from the past, as well as a few from today. Joan Jett, Chrissie Hynde, mostly. Girls my own age, as well, but to a lesser extent. I'm dying to find a wig like Joan Jett's hair nowadays (http://i.realone.com/assets/rn/img/0/7/2/4/19134270-19134271-slarge.jpg).

Most of my style is influenced by a few of the fashion forums that I belong to (such as fashionspot.com) and some of the style blogs.

Fashion magazines... friends... my body shape... Maybe a bit of Jayne Mansfield, Greta Garbo, and Rita Hayworth for the studio work... A hint Betty Paige when I was a youngster... Dita Von Teese in later years.

I'm probably influenced by every pretty woman, or ladies outfit, I've EVER SEEN!:daydreaming:

The only women I've consciously tried to copy were, Marilyn, and Linda Carter, (WonderWoman). :D

I love the gothic and lolita style of dressing. Especially Sweet lolita or sweet style. It is a lovely way to dress. I didn't really have my style down or know what it was called until I saw the fruits book in 2001. This put a NAME to the style I liked dressing in. It's heavily influenced by victorian and rococco fashions, as well as doll styles. I love to dress up in all the frilly layers and look like a cute cupcake! Whenever I am dressing, I always go for the sweet style if I have a decision to make about an outfit. I also enjoy gothic styles if they are on the more elegant side.

That's me too, especially the makeup. Fortunately the look seems to be coming back.

To me, it is a combination of what I like and want to dress in AND my

observation of what GGs are actually wearing to different things and places -

I really don't want to be out of place or out of touch with my Feminine Reality

I have a few influences depending on the occasion, my friend Rachel looks divine in just jeans, cute top, heels and no makeup (so jealous) but she rocks the casual, every day look.

The youngest of my sisters, who is actually 8 years older than me, for the sexy nightclub kind of look I hate to call it ****ty but it is what it is and I think she rocks it.

And I pay attention to women every day whether I am at the office or at the grocery store or wherever you never know where inspiration, or jealousy for some great shoes :D is going to strike.
