Girls, are you like me (JoAnne) - anytime that I have the money to buy
clothes, I don't want to spend it on my male wardrobe - all I want to do is
to buy more clothes for my female side (JoAnne).
My male clothes are in need of replacing and are worn, but I can't make
myself buy anything "male". I ONLY want to buy things for JoAnne.
Have any of you foung this to be a problem ?

Here's what I do. Very simple:
Buy female versions of clothes that you can get away with: Jeans, dress pants, tops, sweaters, shoes, sweats, jackets, shorts, socks ... many things.
I mean, all my dress pants are the female version, pretty much the same as male except there are not pockets and might have a zipper down the side instead of the front. Rarely has anyone noticed.
All my jeans are girls and my shorts and I even wear those short shorts.
As long as you don't wear pink, I don't think you will be noticed.

Yes. I haven't bought or worn male clothes in so long. I don't even look at the male departments when I go shopping. I guess you could say I am lke sybercom. Most of my clothes aren't obviously female, unless you know what you are looking at.

It's been quite awhile since I've actually bought "guy" clothes. Like sybercom says get it all in the female version. All my dress trousers and work pants are ladies along with my dress shirts and work shirts.
It does take a bit of searching to find shirts that will "work". Too much lace or ruching across the shoulders gives away the look, also pleats and darts on the sides are also a "tell", I've found a few sources for what I can get away with while keeping a "guy" look albeit a bit soft, but I'm happy with the look. Payless as we know is a good place for getting plain shoes without heels to wear everyday.
Funny thing, this past November I really needed a sport coat to wear to a wedding, had to go in some kind of male look (yuck). I went to Brooks Bros. outlet to get one, however, I just had to take a look at the ladies dress shirts. Took me about 45 min to decide on which ones I wanted. Walked over to the other side of the store to get a jacket, spent 5 min looking.
I wonder if that tells me something? ya think.

Much to my wife's regret and irritation, I really care very little about my male wardrobe. I have two hanger bars in my closet. One is entirely skirts, tops, and dresses, and the other is at least 75% the same. There's like this little 2 foot section of male clothes there. In fact, I think I'm gonna have to stop buying femme clothes for a lack of space to keep them.

Nope!! I like to look good no mater what gender so imy male clothes are new and sharp... And any money I have extra over that spent on kids and family go for ... Ice hockey.... Tools..... Makeup. And then in last place new fem clothing...
For me its all about balance... I'm not trashing my male side in lue of my female side and visa vera!!

I hate shopping for my "guy self".........but if I had an unlimited spending account, I'd be shopping for feminine clothes constantly.
My closet is similar to Kimberly's........out of the whole area, the male portion consists of 4 or 5 dress shirts, 1 pair of dress pants & a sweater. The rest of the closet is stuffed with female attire. My two bureau's are the same way.......2 or 3 drawers for "male me", 6 or 7 for Alana :battingeyelashes:

Put me in the same catagory as subercom, lisa, and Phyllis. I haven't bought anything male in a few years.
Although I may catch it from some of the "purists" on this forum, I'm personally glad FABs wear pants. It definately makes it easier for me to dress fem and blend in with the women of the world without having to go "over the top" and wear only dresses or skirts.

Lauren's side of the closet is greatly lacking. I really am in no position to get away with it, without having a great deal of problems. So I try to find clothes that are fairly generic. I will wear ladies slacks but have to make sure they are not too obvious. I am frugal because of financial concerns and that I work off of grants and never knew when the plug is gonna be pulled. I do like to dress nicely but do so on a very limited budget. For me it is difficult because I would love to buy more ladies stuff but can't always justify the expense.

Except for work boots, can't remember when I last bought guy clothes. My wife takes care of that for me. Went in the wrong entrance at Pennys the other day. Had to walk through the mens section, checked out a tie on the way, $15.00!!! I could buy three or four tops for that at the thrift store.

I kind of suffer from the only want girly femme clothes syndrome also. A couple of times I spent more than I should have on women's clothes just because there were some goodies available, and then had to sit on other bills for a couple weeks because I went over budget. Something tells me I'm not a lone on that one. :)
Some of my (man-wardrobe) work shirts are really showing wear. I bought a few more shirts about a month or month and a half ago. They're still in the packages. lol Haven't bothered to get them out, remove all their pins, wash, iron, etc.
In contrast, as soon as my wife comes home with new goodies for Gabi, I'll pretty much drop everything I'm doing and put on a fashion show for her! :heehee:
So I'm guilty here. Who wants man-clothes anyway? They're just a necessity for working and getting around in the outside world - that world outside my cd-closet called home.

I've been finding myself much more inclined to buy women's clothing lately more than mens. I've been habitually walking out of work on payday and going to a local boutique that has NOTHING but women's clothes (relatively cheap) and filling a bag or two.
Just recently had a fancy work dinner to go to, and my GF ended up finding a light pink-white tint fitted men's shirt and a silver paisley tie. I kept thinking I had a bra on or that my chest was sticking out from underneath.. he he. My men's clothing is indeed starting to suffer wear and tear, and I just don't think I /want/ to bring myself to keep buying plain old men's stuff. I've been struggling just like the rest here trying to find nice dress slacks and tops suitable for throwing a tie on instead.
I can't say that I'm pushing transitioning that fast at all, but if I start wearing clothing that suits my inner lady every day (and can manage to get away with it), then so be it!

I reckon so. I do very little buying of male clothes, and figure what I have is good enough until it wears out.
However, to keep from buying fem clothes that I don't REALLY need, I make sure not to carry any money with me when 'window' shopping.
Besides, I've also vowed to myself not to buy any new clothes until I've lost a significant amount of weight. Almost went against that yesterday when my wife told me about some skorts Cosco had.

Here is where it can get complicated Joanne. If we want to be like women, we will want to buy clothes that we can wear in comfort. The GG's here keep getting accused of dressing in "guy" (casual) clothes because they want to be comfortable. The solution is really simple. Just buy guy clothes and you have accomplished both missions simultaneously. It's so simple it's complicated and depends entirely on one's mindset.:)

I only buy a male item of clothing when I need too and I don't like spending a lot of money. On my female clothes I am happy to spend all I can afford.

Exactly, my girl wardrobe grows and grows. Its lucky that my male wardrobe appears to be shrinking at the same rate. Male wardrobe is much easier though. Shirt and trousers for work, jeans and t-shirt for out of work. One coat does all. No co-ordination, no blouses, skirts, day dresses, evening dresses, stockings, tights; no fun - and thats not forgetting handbags, purses, jewellary and make-up. Underwear works for both though:)
I'm in the same boat as MOST of the post before me. It use to be I would take my time when shopping for male clothes and hurry when shopping for female clothes. This was in the begining when I was affraid of people seeing me buy women's clothes. I would run through the women's section scanning and grabbing what I thought would work. Most of the time I got lucky. Other times things became canidates for the donation bin at Goodwill. Now that I've gotton more comfortable shopping for femm things, I can't stop. The more I buy, the more I want to buy. I still buy male things. It's just not as fun. It's basically blue jeans, slacks, shirts and shoes(black, brown, gym, workboot). I own ONE tie. I havn't had the need to wear a suit & tie for years and God help I hope I never will.

I have no desire to buy my male clothes, usually my wife buys them. My only interest is in my gurl clothes! No desire for those boi clothes, blah!
My men suits have dust on them from non-use!

Wouldn't be so bad for my dude-duds if I had any male fashion sense. I just stick to the essentials... T-shirts, jeans, hoodies, and a pair of shoes. I do freakin' love hoodies though... Got a thin black w/ gray stripes that looks good both ways though

Girl! I know what you mean.
I love shopping for my femme self. I'd say I've bought more girl clothes in two years than all the male clothes I've bought in the last 15 years.
I feel like I'm the only one helping the economy with all the shopping I do. :heehee:

I've got the fashionista thing going in both modes. Heck, the fact my presentation is probably 97% in guy mode means I have to pay at least some attention to him. Doing so doesn't take anything away from how much I enjoy presentation in girl mode, it's simply a fact of life, or as Karren put it, balance.

So far, you wanting to only buy things for JoAnne has never been a problem for me. I think you have your priorities set right.
What's that? JoAnne's question was suppose to be about me? Excuse me please. Nothing this fun and exciting could ever be considered a problem. Then again, not having enough storage space for my girly things could be an issue looming on the horizon. I suppose when they make men's clothing as interesting as women's clothing, then I could have a big problem.

I agree JoAnne, it is really hard for me to buy male clothes, the last thing I brought for my male self was a pair of jeans. Should had brought them in woman's instead of men's.

I've spent about $200 in the past couple days on femme clothes after my tax return came in, absolutely none on male clothes and don't intend to. Of course I'm still in the process of letting Mirabai out and don't exactly have a lot of femme clothes right now, but I love how much fun I have shopping for femme clothes, with male clothes it's always "ok just get whatever" and I'm done in 2 minutes. The amount will probably go to about $250-300 by the time I'm done with this current spending spree, of course since I'm having so much fun it could go to much more :o.
Unfortunately unlike you brave souls I can't go to the local thrift stores and buy clothes for cheap. Maybe some day :)

I think the constant changes in fashion cause a lot of the trouble......Guy clothes tend to be less fashion victims (unless you buy the latest stuff) so for example, a pair of jeans will last a good few years, as will a nice jumper, or shirt, or polo top etc.
Whereas womens clothes change from month to month. I have a top I bought a couple of months ago which looked really nice when I got it, but now I just dont like it at all. I've aslo got a satin wiggle skirt, which looked the biz when I bought it, but now it just sits in the drawer waiting for the cycle to go around again till it see th light of day.
I got a good bit of advice from a GG recently, buy simple and standard items that can be dressed up and dressed down. So nothing with bows on, sparkles, ribbons etc, as these can all be added as and when.....Only trouble is finding stuff that doesnt have these things on!

Yes for me I have found that I will buy my female clothes when I have money, the proof is right now I need some shoes for him but on my last outing I was dressed of course and bought some nice pumps instead! Now I need some men shoes real bad!

I guess I am lucky because of my age I have less to worry about fashion wise. Old matrons get to wear what they want and normally it is more sedate cloths that hide our flaws better.
Yes we too do have a sort of fashion standard but unless you can afford it you just wear that which you can afford.

I actually haven't bought a single item of male clothing for over 5 years. I wear girls' clothes all the time now, even at work (at work they're more unisex in nature and so not that obvious). The only time I actually wear any guys clothes anymore is when I go to visit my parents in the UK for a vacation. I have no family here in the US and my wife's son and sister already know about me. The only new guy clothes I ever get is the ones my family (who I'm not out to yet) buy me for birthdays and Christmas and that's usually just a few t-shirts and hoodies :D:
If I was in your situation, I'm sure I'd be just the same as you. It's hard to not spend you money on cute girl clothes, when boys clothes are so "icky" in comparison :puke:

I too can't see wasting $$ on mens clothes. Ewwww!!! I would much rather spend my $$$ on beautiful ladies clothes. No question!:)

All my jeans are girls and my shorts and I even wear those short shorts. My male clothes are nice and they last a long time.
As long as you don't wear pink, I don't think you will be noticed.
I am not brave enough for the short shorts outside of the house, but I do this as well. Seems you can wear many fem things and never get noticed. Many of them are so much more comfortable as well.
My male clothes are in good shape but we gals can always use more nice clothes. :)

I also rarely buy male clothing and prefer to just make do with what I have. Unfortunately, that can not go on forever. This week I decided I had to replace some of my shirts and slacks so I went shopping for him....as her. It was a bit of a different experience but it was fun too. Many, if not most, men have their clothes purchased by their SO's. I decided I needed more clothes and might as well make the experience an interesting one.
I think my wardrobe is about 60:40 in favor of male things - but that seems OK to me. I've bought more female than male clothes in the last few years because I have been building up my femme wardrobe, but now I would say new purchases are about even. And I don't do a lot of clothes shopping anyway. I don't get a lot of time en femme so my clothes selection is ample.
Also I do really like trying to look smart in guy clothes, so I don't neglect that side of the wardrobe. I bought a new (male) casual jacket for springtime last week and I can honestly say I was more excited about that than I was about the last skirt I bought.

The Femme side of my closet is eating the guy side! It's just not FUN to shop for dude duds. Especially when the SO loves to shop for your femme stuff with you! "Honey, you so have to get that hobo bag, it so goes with the pumps we got you last week!" :hugs: -Erica

I guess Im a strange duck. I have way more male clothes than female things. I have a huge T-shirt collection-mostly rock bands. I have enuff Jimmy Buffett shirts that I could prob wear a different one for a couple of weeks. I love really loud Hawaiin shirts and tie dies. I have a great woven mexican poncho that I would love to get more of. As a male i am pretty much t-shirts, shorts and flip flops, I hate wearing shoes and socks. I do love finding cool surfer shorts. Now Gina on the other hand loves to dress feminine, rarely wears pants, loves heels, and silky blouses. What i have discovered though is that my boy side is far stronger in the summer when it is warm and I can be outside. I dress a lot less, and am always on the go exercising and at the beach. I have often wondered ifI would dress much at all if I lived in Hawaii, San Diego or someplace warm and sunny. I know Gina is a huge part of me, but in the summer im definitely a crossdresser in hibernation.

Just the answer I would expect from Karren. You are just too well balanced, girl!!
However, I also like to look good as a male. So I do have a fairly extensive wardrobe of male clothes in good shape. Buuut, my female wardrobe is five (5) times the size of my male wardrobe. I have one large closet full of male clothing and 5 closets full of female clothing. Of course that doesn't even count the lingerie which is in drawers (plural!). As my late wife used to say, Stephanie is way better clothed then ####!

I only go shopping for guy stuff when the item is too worn to wear. I haven't bought a guy top in years, or guy underwear. I have bought jeans, the only thing. Next pair of jeans----from the juniors section.

I look at the male clothing and get what I think could go with this or that skirt.. I feel more fem from my waist down than my waist up.. so a t shirt of some sort is good,, a skirt for Carly even better...

My wardrobe is 50/50; I don't have a lot of really 'good' female clothes, basically because I can never wear them out anywhere anyway. And girl shoes are limited to what the specialty CD merchants offer, because I've never seen casual female shoes in whatever equals a size 16 male shoe, so all I have is some high heel shoes and boots. My guy clothes I have spent a whole lot on in the past few years, after being accused of being a slob. I read over and over that to women, the quality of a man's clothes makes a great deal of difference, so I'm trying to look better. So, I tried to upgrade all my 'guy' stuff. Tossed all the old comfy worn looking khakis and jeans, replaced with more dress style stuff. All windbreakers are gone but one, replaced by blazers and a few leather jackets and coats. Right now, I'm looking for a cashmere overcoat, hopefully will find one on clearance at the end of this cold season. Scruffy sneakers and casual shoes replaced by polished loafers. My huge collection of polo shirts replaced by button down dress shirts. And I was surprised that the comfort level was basically the same unless I forced myself to wear a tie. Good clothes are comfortable when they fit right.

My "sharp suits" - ( I loved those from a Swedish firm whose name I forget ) - have all gone since I retired. I do sort of miss the dressed exec look that was my scene back then. ( I won't forget wearing a pink shirt with a blueish, silky material suit one day when I inadvertently ended up in the Bank's GM office. Pinstripe era ).
Then I spent mostly on clothes for male me. Now I spend on clothes for both of us, including that cyclist character who is changeable.

I haven't bought any male clothes, apart from socks, for about two years now. Any money I have at the moment is beingt spent on femme clothes ans shoes (I love my heels). As I am transitioning I cant see myself buying any male clothes again. I have started getting rid of the ones I already have because I need the space for my new wardrobe. :D
