I just did makeup for the first time. I was wondering how to clean makeup brushes after you use them. Can you just use water and a cloth or should you put makeup removal cream on the tips?
I read on one website that you should not soak them since it could damage the brush.

You use hair shampoo on them. Get the brushes wet, (but not the ferrule) and massage a little shampoo into them until they're pretty clean, then rinse in the sink with lukewarm water.
Then let them dry with the bristles pointing down. Any angle is fine, as long at it's slanted downwards somehow. Try not to point the bristles up when the brush has water on it, or the water will run into the ferrule and loosen the glue! (That's why they say no soaking.)
Warm water will loosen the glue worse than cold water will. Using makeup remover on them will just gunk them up. Most good brushes are hair, so hair shampoo is the best thing for them.
Have fun!

I finally got a good set of brushes a few years ago. I typically will just wet them in lukewarm water, dab them on the bar of soap (Ivory), and gently rub the bristles, rinse, then air dry them..... They have held up a long time and are not too skungy (or however you spell it)....
