Hi.
A while back someone posted their carry letter with details edited out. It was very well written. I wanted to take it to my therapist. But I can't find it searching the board. Can the original poster or someone that remembers help?
Thanks...:hugs:

I think so...thanks tori! Have you ever felt the need to show it to someone or someone you don't know?

Never even once. Early on I was glad to have it. A bit of security blanket. I don't even know where it is now.

Just bear in mind that it isn't a "get out of jail free" card or a free pass, while it may come in handy it carries no weight. I showed mine to a cop once after I came out of the ladies room and he stopped me, and his reply was "but the drivers license says Male, right?"

Like Terri and Karen said, it is rarely used and when it is it really carries no weight. I still carry mine around "just in case". I have never had to show it to anyone and even if I did, it is more as an "educational tool" rather than any form of legal anything.

I will say that I felt more comfortable having it, and it probably helped me out of my situation with the police, he was really cool about it.

Don't have one, and haven't needed it. My therapist says she will write me one anytime I ask, and I probably will have her do that before I take a plane trip this summer, simply to prove that I am that ugly person on my current DL, if asked. But as has been said, it's more of a security blanket and an opportunity to teach than anything else.
Hugs,
Melissa:)

I have used the Ladies Toilets for over a year without any problem since I came out. In the UK the police advise transgender groups that in public places it is best to use the disabled toilets if anyone complains just to avoid problems. On the whole they don't want to get involved.
GypsyKaren In the UK if you have a letter from your doctor the licensing authorities will issue a new driving licence in your female name and classing you as female.

I think in Europe, especially Germany carry letters were at one time, (and this goes back a long time), written by the police to grant some special status for those having gender disorders.
Here things are less formal, at least at a low level on the food chain, and there is jurisdictional confusion not to say anarchy as well. But then we do not need to carry personal identitiy papers to show to any police officer that chooses at whim to stop us, the way they have to in Europe, at least not yet.

Thank You for sharing your letter here Kelly, that is very well written!!!!..
I have no idea how my therapist would word hers, but would you mind if I showed my therapist yours as an great example??
My current therapist has been Post-op 20 years herself, so I would think she knows about all the issues & letters, but she only started her own practice a couple years ago.

With a little creativity and some research you could probably make your own.
This thing is a note from "mommy", and not a legal document.
Really can you imagine the cop calling the doctor's office? First off the help wouldn't know squat. And with the medical confidentiality laws they can't release that kind of information anyway.
Well that is without a court order. And do you really think the cop cares enough to take it that far?
Just hand him your homemade carry letter and bat your eyelashes at him.

I've read many stories about "the letter" coming in handy. Although I never got one, I at one time carried the letter my therapist wrote me for my endocrinologist, the one where she diagnosed me as TS. Thankfully, I've never needed it.
